Thank you for showing this side of the news. I'm tired of the mainstream trying to portray the movement as violent. It's awesome to see that so many stand behind the positive message of the movement.

If you see one of these people, tear their mask off, take picture/video of their face, and send copies to the police. There are some reasons why you need the police, and this is one of them.

The peaceful protest was getting the REAL message across. It wouldn't surprise me if the violence was organised by the 1% to deflect that message. Violence always dilutes the real message behind protest.

Those aren't anarchists, they're vandals. It's a common mistake to label petty vandals as anarchists and it's disappointing when TYT does the same thing as all other major media. Anarchism is a political philosophy and true anarchists don't use violence to achieve their goals.

  • @Grindermetalhead

Property destruction is not violence, you shills. It's vandalism at best. People did it to hit the capitalist class where it hurts them the most. Their wallets.
Oh, and showing different perspectives does not mean showing opinions of different people who all share the same perspective. Nice fair and balanced reporting.

This is the exact same scene that unfolded in '99 at the WTO protests in Seattle. Why don't the lazy, cowardly cops arrest the people that are breaking windows and setting fires?? I guess I just answered my own question...

Agent provocateurs is what who those infiltrators were. Had a riot broken out, I'm sure people wouldn't have hesitated to burn the city down. The population easily outnumbers the police department. Also, if you look at some videos these AP thugs usually wore the same attire, communicated with each other, and had a pattern to their vandalism. Common folks are not stupid, general stores are not the 1%, it's the banks and city hall. Those were NOT attacked like these stores were.

@shraka others use it as an appeal to authority. I've read a bunch of their writing, Thomas Paine in particular. I'm appealing to what they said, which is why I know they would have, personally, pulled the american govn't into the street at shot them. It was a country born of revolution, and people seem to think that they did it the MLK way, and they certainly did not.
They aren't being "actively violently oppressing" because they aren't actually doing anything dangerous to the establishment.

The gist is, people who live in Oakland who attack capitalism itself will be marginalized. The majority within the movement has declared who is and is not allowed to have a voice, and who is allowed to take action on behalf of their belief that capitalism and the State are the antithesis of freedom and love. The self-designated majority and official non-leaders control the movement, keep it toothless and ineffective, and disempower anyone who doesn't fit the dogma of pacifism and non-resistance.

Conspiracy theories aside, I heard it was a group of anarchists who took the opportunity to spread their own message while hidden behind OO. If that's true, then these particular anarchists are cowards. I know REAL anarchists who are very proud of who they are and while I don't support their political ideals I can at least respect that they stand up for what they believe in rather than try to disguise their intentions as the anarchists who hide behind OO are doing.

Way to get both sides Ana....
One person or one group's ideology doesn't represent the 99%. This a movement of the masses and represents all the anti establishment...Closing down ports and banks peacefully is really much more destructive than breaking a window or writing graffiti and in that regard could be argued as being more effective. But everyone is entitled to their acts of rebellion, and no one should be excluded outside of those acting for the establishment. Lets use all our tools..

  • @Ollie9402

STOP using the word anarchism for everything that's considered wrong! It simply means people don't accept unnecessary hierarchical relationships. They want to take the production process they are a part of in into their own hands by forming cooperatives and worker-owned and worker-controlled businesses. From those basic units on up, new representitive decision making meachanism would be set up, eventually making the state, corporation, religions, etc. absolete.

@JimboVids Actually it has been peaceful UNTIL police action gets involved. A mole for the police who was alerting police to unarmed peaceful gatherings was ousted from the protests within the last week, a veteran was injured, another killed and an elderly woman beaten - all by police action while unarmed. Remember Democratic National Convention of 1968 when 8 police officers and 8 civilians were tried for inciting a riot - resulting in several convictions. We see what we are allowed to see.
