    I don’t think Sean McVay is thinking about it at all. They won a Super Bowl.
    Both teams made the absolute right decision. This is just another case that shows fit with a team is a very important factor in QB success.
    The lions couldn’t do anything with Matt Stafford, but the second he plays on another team he wins a Super Bowl. The Rams couldn’t do anything with Jared Goff, with the Lions he’s in the NFC championship, and the lions are a Super Bowl contender.

      If Dan made better decisions and Reynolds and St Brown didn't drop crucial balls, the Lions would have been in the SB even with that awful secondary.

The problem with him is hes taleted enough to get you to the playoffs but he doesnt have a killer instinct. He doesnt have the it factor where he takes the team on his shoulders and carries his team to win. Which is something you need to contend with a mahomes or peyton or brees. Which is why he wont ever beat guys at that elite level. the team will have to win it for him.

The best player doesn't always make the most money, because at a certain level -- say top 10 at any given position -- the next guy to get a contract is gonna set the market, or at least come close to setting it. This is particularly true with QBs. By opening day 2025, Goff will be closer to the 10th highest paid QB than the 1st. Detroit was never gonna get Goff for under $50 mil, because when a top-10 positional player gets a new deal, it's not weighed against *current* deals, it's weighed against *future* deals.

    I think something that goes unnoticed is the team after the Rams Super Bowl was old. They probably expected to have a core for three years only. Also, there were talks about McVay stepping away. There was most likely a discussion about going short-term and going all in to mortgage a possible future. Their success with rookies and a reinvigorated McVay, has extended their timeline. Rams can’t possibly say this isn’t a win, irregardless of what Goff is or turns out to be for the Lions. They won a ship. That’s a win

    There was nothin wrong with Goff in LA. As a Rams fan I can say that if you look at the 4th quarter alone with what Stafford did in his super bowl you'd think to yourself that simply "Goff wouldn't have been able to do that". The no look pass in the moment he decided to do it in the biggest game of his life shows that the trade was all about experience levels. Goff wasn't quite at the level the Rams needed for the approach they wanted going forward. Both teams got plus results.

  • @richardastley1168

    the trade can be broken down very easily. The Rams wanted to ditch Goff. "No One" was going to take the contract without concessions. The Lions "Fleeced" the Rams into giving them a ton of high picks to take the contract. But, as has been demonstrated repeatedly, Brad Holmes is a true believer in "His Guys", players who embody the character and work ethic that he wanted to build in Detroit. Given that Holmes just came from the Rams, he knew EXACTLY who Goff was as a person, and believed he was getting the steal of his lifetime, to get paid to take Goff. Stafford didn't want to be here, so good riddance, have a nice day. Rams got their Super Bowl, so good on them, but it has hamstrung them for years to come. That Goff had his resurgence shouldn't be viewed with such surprise. The surprise is that the Ford Family finally orchestrated building a winning organization for the first time since they took over ownership and creating a completely dysfunctional franchise since 1963.

    You can tell it just burns Florio to talk positively about the Lions. As of now, I think the trade is a win for both clubs. Who did better? We won't know that for a few years. The Rams got their Super Bowl, but at the expense of a lot of draft picks and expensive contracts. They are still a playoff caliber team as long as the 36 year old Stafford stays healthy. Are they Super Bowl contenders? Perhaps, but not likely. The Lions used all of the Rams picks well. The young core is in place and locked up. The front office and coaching staff are aligned and intact. They are an ascending team that is very young with a quarterback in his prime for another 4 years. If the Lions win a Super Bowl and remain a top tier team, you could say the Lions won the trade, especially if the Rams don't win another one. If the Lions don't win a Super Bowl, you have to give it to the Rams, even if the Lions are a strong team for years to come. It's about winning championships.

  • @GulNadar
    @GulNadar 25 дней назад +1

    The big thing that's still unanswered for the Rams is whether McVay can develop a rookie QB or not? McVay's ego and bad blood with Goff caused the trade. Ben Johnson makes McVay look stupid for just doing what Goff is good at. That would make it less about McVay's genius and more about Goff. McVay made it about HIS offense, HE is the one that makes the Rams score. HE doesn't throw the ball. It's his job to make the players he has to perform the best he can. "My way or you suck" doesn't work very long.
    Stafford has the experience that he can tell McVay to get his head straight and go run a 10-play touchdown drive on his own. I do think McVay learned he has to build the team around Stafford's abilities and what's needed to hide his deficiencies. That lesson came after the Superbowl win.
    League outlets can't say those things about McVay because they want interviews.

      If Goff, OBJ, Baker Mayfield, Jalen Ramsey, Puka Nacua, Big Whit, Kyren Williams, and even Stafford don't make you see how great McVay is in developing talents who otherwise had fewer success on other teams, there is no more to say to you. If you are willing you can watch how McVay develops this new batch of rookies. Enough said!

    • @GulNadar
      @GulNadar 23 дня назад

      @@cy4330 I'm talking QB development. Once Stafford is gone he has to get someone else. My guess is he doesn't have the patience to restart with a rookie and he goes with the best available QB he can get via FA or trade. That's not developing a QB. I'll give credit for Williams and Nacua, the rest were already established as at least good to pro bowl level players. Mayfield came after McVay had to eat some humble pie. He didn't do anything new with Stafford that Stafford wasn't already good it. Not fucking up good players is a talent though. Once again I'm only talking about QB development ONLY. Stay on topic.
