AN HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE ON THE ART OF VIOLIN PLAYING SINCE
THE BEGINNING OF THE RECORDING ERA
A unique and illustrative glimpse into the personalities who created music history as they brought the art of violin playing to its zenith. With some rare and even unknown recordings and fascinating narrative, the world of Jascha Heifetz, Fritz Kreisler, Yehudi Menuhin, Leopold Auer, and other giants of the field, comes alive and enchants the listeners with its beauty.
The audience will travel through time to the days of Paganini via his closest musical heirs, those violinists whose lives touched Vieuxtemps, Wieniawski, Sarasate, and Joachim--the giants of the XIX Century.
Rare examples from the beginning of the Recording Era feature Jascha Heifetz, Fritz Kreisler, Leopold Auer, Pablo Sarasate, Joseph Joachim, and others. These vividly illustrate the musical links to the past giants of the violin world, giving tantalizing hints of the techniques and sounds that now remain only legendary.
Author, host-narrator, producer, Yuri Beliavsky, with his authentic commentary, makes this enlightening series both entertaining and educational, as he describes the evolution of violin technique and style, compares recordings, and relates the colorful stories of the violinists' lives.

Thank you for this wonderful presentation. Seidel has a very special place in my heart. I had a conversation about him with his student Arnold Steinhardt, and from then on I was hooked to his sound, which Steinhardt said seemed like it was constantly melting his record player. On my channel I have uploaded some of his recordings which I have been collecting/transferring.

Are you familiar with Benno Rabinof's recordings? Though he is a later Auer student, his sound is of that spirit, and for me he often captures the Kreisler sort of Aesthetic! Also Jullian Olevsky and David Nadein, for me, truly capture the heifetz-style and the general values of Auer school. I posted their recordings on my channel.

In the movie "Intermezzo" (1939) Leslie Howard played the role of Holger Brandt, a famous virtuoso violinist. Might you know if it was Toscha Seidel who played the violin solo or, possibly, Al Sack, who was credited with providing the up close fingerings in the movie and some violin instruction to Leslie Howard (Wiki)"?

It was Toscha Seidel playing. Al Sack filmed the shots of the violinist's hands, when required.

He has the same rapid vibrato as Heifetz. Sound nervous to me. But excellent violinist.
