John William Waterhouse
From Wikipedia: Circe is an enchantress and a minor goddess in Greek mythology. She is either a daughter of the god Helios and the Oceanid nymph Perse or the goddess Hecate and Aeëtes. Circe was renowned for her vast knowledge of potions and herbs. Through the use of these and a magic wand or staff, she would transform her enemies, or those who offended her, into animals.
The best known of her legends is told in Homer's Odyssey when Odysseus visits her island of Aeaea on the way back from the Trojan War and she changes most of his crew into swine. He manages to persuade her to return them to human shape, lives with her for a year and has sons by her, including Latinus and Telegonus. Another story tells of her falling in love with the sea-god Glaucus, who prefers the nymph Scylla to her. In revenge, Circe poisoned the water where her rival bathed and turned her into a dreadful monster.
Depictions, even in Classical times, diverged from the detail in Homer's narrative. Early philosophical questions were also raised about whether the change from being a human endowed with reason to being an unreasoning beast might not be preferable after all, and the resulting debate was to have a powerful impact during the Renaissance. Circe was also taken as the archetype of the predatory female. In the eyes of those from a later age, this behaviour made her notorious both as a magician and as a free woman. She has been frequently depicted as such in all the arts from the Renaissance down to modern times.

Well spotted, Ben! This playlist was actually inspired by the novel Circe by Madeline Miller. We finished it recently and loved her retelling of the classical myth. You've probably read it already, but if you haven't, we wholeheartedly recommend checking it out!

Villain origin story: listened to villainous classical music for too long
I listen to this while I take a brake from the treacherous, evil, conniving, villainy schemes, that all us villainous villains perform so well.
I think what makes classical music great is that it's your own interpretation. There's no lyrics to tell you how to feel - it's just the sounds and your imagination.
And the majesty of the up and downs, the climaxes.
@@lucacunzolo7728 and talking like this is why everyone else thinks we’re nuts for liking this stuff.
Almost always it's not the lyrics that create the interpretation, it's the sound, no idea what your talking about
@@ReachTea I'm comparing Classical to modern mainstream music where people interpret the song by the lyrics
Lol definitely not true 😂😂😂
This interpretation of villainy comes from the conscription of this music by the pop culture media in particular parts of the climactic showdowns. Our minds register the emotions we're feeling and associate it with the music. Had they used Beethoven's fifth for a love story, we would think its extremely romantic 😂😂

NOW the fun begins 😈

Honestly this is my first time searching classical music. This music really make me feel alive. Thank you . Definitely stuck with classical music.
Welcome to the magical and exciting world of classical music, Mohammad! There is infinite beauty to discover, we hope you'll love it.
First piece by Jenkins has me feeling very sinister indeed! You would never know Jenkins is modern, it fits right in with classical pieces like Vivaldi!
I was shocked when i found out it wasn't made by some 18th century composer! Probably one of my favorites here too
Vivaldi is baroque my guy. Jenkins is contemporary
@@davyroger3773 qy
I thought the first piece was the Tango of the Death by Vivaldi. Have I gotten it wrong? Not a pro at classical music))
To be honest, I cannot believe how beautiful this piece of art is
We villians approve of this music. 👍👍👍
THIS IS THAT WHAT I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR FOR A LONG TIME! THANK YOU! ❤️
Oh joy, we're thrilled that you've finally found it! If you enjoy this mix, we can't help but recommend vol. 2 as well for extra villainous vibes ✨👉 ruclips.net/video/8zeyRAFMizc/видео.html
Stop that... a "thank you" and a "heart"!? You're no villain... this is not your place!! 😝
@@brunosoares3907 I AM a villain! A polite villain with a big black heart that turns into red sometimes. 🙂😌🖤

Waterhouse has an unmistakable style. One can recognize his works from a mile away. My favorite is "Hylas and the Nymphs" but his "Circe" is great, too.
I'm playing this while writing a villain's scene in a story for a creative writing course. I'm a university student and classical music can indeed fit any assignment's mood! I've been listening to this channel's playlists for many hours as I have worked on this story, so thank you!
I was just playing your classical music for studying and reading videos for about 2 hours ☺️ And now I see a new upload! 💖💓
Opening with Palladio sets the atmosphere wonderfully - thank you!
That piece conveys such a sense of power and confidence! It makes us feel like we could do anything🔥thank you for listening, Angie! Hope you're having a great weekend.
@@HALIDONMUSIC I hate that Palladio was drilled into my head as the De Beers theme song in the 90s... It can't be undone.
Thank you, this was really helpful while plotting, scheming, and of course conspiring with my fellow villains. 👌
Great compilation! I would add Prokofiev - Dance of the knights. That's the one I use when I want to come up with a villain plan :D
Those musics makes you feel a so deep feeling, it's hard to explain, but easy to understand.

Wow, what power and vivacity in this playlist! 🤩
I can't get enough of the agonising frenzy of "The Four Seasons, Concerto No. 4 in F minor, RV 297 "Winter": III. Allegro or molto", every time I listen to it : the same feeling, the same thrills, I love it!
A good idea to have put the naughty in the spotlight, it's a change! 😊👍
Well, very nice playlist, full of energy, before starting the weekend ! thanks ! 🥰
when it gets really cold, I put on my The Four Seasons, Concerto No. 4 in F minor, RV 297 coat
Deep in bowels of life, as I ponder what treacherous deeds I will endure. This music matching my innermost thoughts!!!
Wunderbare Musik! Ich liebe es.
I'm working on three really weird paintings at the moment. This is the perfect leitmotif. Genius compilation and curation. Thanks!
Really weird paintings? We're kind of intrigued now, duckideva... Also thank you very much for your kind words, we truly appreciate them!

I dont know why but found myself loving these musics more than other categories. Special love to Mozzart Requiem D minor : Already been my life best music since 2007.

Forever in my top 3 all time favorites. Pure brilliance.
Why thank you for recommending me such fine music! I can picture myself as any villain from a classical piece of literature now.
I really love this list. Thank you so much!!
耳に心地良い名曲ばかり
Loving this list!! I'm literally chilling like a villain now. Really love the Litvonovsky, never heard any of it before!
I feel like "Camille Saint-Saëns's Introduction + Rondo Capriccioso op. 28 violin & orchestra" should totally be on this list as well.
Love this Waterhouse painting too.
Thank you very much for the love and the suggestion! Whenever someone tells us they loved Litvinovsky a fairy is born 🧚♀️✨ His music deserves all the recognition, we can never have enough of it! We definitely recommend listening to his full suites for string orchestra:

Oh yay! Feel free to let us know what you think about them if you listen to them - feedback from our listeners is always greatly appreciated 🤗
Great stuff, especially the Litvinovsky piece, haven't heard it much before. Really a nice jolt in the morning :) I'm going to track down the whole piece, it really stood out for me. Thanks Halidonmusic!
Glad to hear you enjoyed Alexander Litvinovsky's compositions! We have released two of his Suite for Strings (Le Grand Cahier and Tales of the Magic Tree), and have one more coming out in a couple of weeks: Pelléas et Mélisandre. Don't forget to follow him on Spotify if you'd like to be notified of new releases! Thank you for listening :)
The Litvinovsky "Le Grand Cahier" immediately struck me because of the similar note progression as the Avengers leitmotif. I wonder if there's some influence there or if it's just coincidental.
I wondered why I never heard of Litvinovsky before, he's great.
I really enjoyed this entire video. What an exhilarating way to start my Friday! 😀
들으니까 집중이 잘돼서 좋네요.
Substituting the hero for the assignment and me for the villain, this playlist uplifts me considerably.
We love your strategy! Imagining ourselves as villains who are plotting revenge on their greatest enemy always has us feeling much more powerful and productive 😈
Did you know there's a Vol. 2 of this mix btw? You can find it here if you'd like to check it out: ruclips.net/video/8zeyRAFMizc/видео.html
As a classic villian, who uses vulnerable humans as pawns for "greater good", i can confirm this is my kind of music.
Fell asleep listining to Machiavelli's the prince, woke up feeling schemey. This playlist is exactly what I needed :)

Love it. Perfect mix. I sure am a Villain/Clandestino/Schurke
