  • A patient talks about the proton irradiation of her brain tumor at the Center for Proton Therapy (CPT). Since 1984, patients with eye tumors have been successfully irradiated with protons. The spot-scanning technique (also known as Pencil Beam Scanning) developed here in the 1990s makes it possible to precisely irradiate cancerous tumours inside the body and to protect the surrounding healthy tissue in an optimal way. This therapy is therefore particularly suitable for children and young people.
Through the integration into the infrastructure of the Paul Scherrer Institute, research and continuous further development of treatment methods for the benefit of patients is an important focus at CPT.
