Thanks for making this video so many dont know how to make gravy or sauces that make the meal a delightful. I agree fat separators are a must in the kitchen for soups or gravy. Purchase at least a 4c.
I just want you to know that you’re doing the Lord’s work. We have struggled to make a decent turkey gravy since my brother-in-law’s mom passed away. We really appreciate it. You saved Thanksgiving. I meant to post this a long time ago but this posted again in my feed today so I figured I’d drop the message now.❤😊
God, thank you for gravy! I’m grateful for a compliment that I received for gravy. Her name is Alyssa and she said that it was so good that she could drink it. 😊😊 I pray that all people receive compliments like that at Thanksgiving!!! 🤍In Jesus mighty name. Amen 🙏
Spot on and smooth delivery. My only thing is, i use some of the collected fat, plus butter, to make the roux.....whether off a chicken, turkey, or even pork fat......i always seperate from the stock, but as long as its strained.... The fat serves really well in a roux.... The butter adds a lttle sophistication, and that classic velvety body .
I made the turkey gravy for Thanksgiving following directions, and it came out perfect!!!!! Thank you. And i dry brined my turkey perfect outcome!!!! Thanks again!!!
I made this a couple years ago for thanksgiving & my guests were practically drinking it up with a straw! I ran out & had to run to the kitchen midway thru dinner to whip up another quick batch! Everyone still talks about this gravy! Came on today just to refresh my memory so I can make it again! 😁
My dad was the gravy master in the family, but he passed away in February of this year. This will be my first attempt at gravy and thanks to your video, i think i can do it!!
Thank you for this! I just made gravy for the very first time using my turkey drippings. I also added some of my chicken stock I use for my cornbread dressing. Maaaan, the BEST flavor!

I'm here looking for tips too. Have you tried adding poultry seasoning? It makes a wonderful difference, especially if you don't have pan drippings. For the recipe above, I would add 1/2 tsp poultry seasoning.
I have watched and practiced many of your videos including making the roux. I'm making the turkey gravy this Thanksgiving Day. I have two jars of store bought for backup. 😊 Wish me luck. Love your channel.
My niece's father in law makes the turkey gravy on Thanksgiving and I make the sourdough bread. It's made from turkey drippings out of a smoker, and when you dip the sourdough in it, it is out of this world. I need to watch how he does it this year, but that smokey flavor is hard to beat.
I know how to make gravy, but decided to try this recipe yesterday - fantastic and simple! I was on butter taste overload, however, and next time I might use the fat from the drippings rather than the butter. Either way, thanks for this!
This will blow your mind. Use the pan leavings. Add flour making a roux using the drippings. Then ad spinach water/ carrot water, and or wine, and or stock to the roux its truly much better
I remember one year a lady was remarking on how much she loved making gravy from the turkeys droppings! With a puzzled look I replied to each their own! LMAO
I make my own gravy by adding the turkey neck meat, gizzards and liver cut small and left over drips sauce of turkey mix it together. I add 2 tablespoons of flour to it with 2 cups of water. Season it with oyster sauce.

This makes about 2 cups or 500ml - serves 4 to 6 people. The recipe can be double, tripled... Here is a general rule of thumb for serving size - 1 cup or 500ml of gravy will serve around 3 people. Let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks for watching! Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
This worked great, although I learned that salt that doesn't stick to the bird, ends up in the gravy. I needed to add a ton or water to cut the saltiness.
@@thesauceandgravychannel So I did a gravy thickened with cornstarch like you’ve shown before and it was super easy and thickened quickly. It was super yummy, I did a white wine and turkey stock one. I think I like it thickened with flour better but everyone loved it, including me!
if you don't have a fat separator, I put the juices in a big bowl and let it sit for a few minutes until the fat came to the top. Then stuck my baster in below the fat line and sucked out the liquid into a measuring cup. I had to simmer for longer than expected, about 20 min to get it to thicken up.
Always great info. I do a lot of cooking for a few friends that can't handle gluten. Do you have any suggestions on substitutions/techniques with rice flour or something else?
A cornstarch slurry is a good gluten free thickener. Check out this link - ruclips.net/video/gT5MaPCCw_U/видео.html It would need to be 100% pure cornstarch and most people like to use companies that only creates gluten free items. Some manufacturers produce 100% pure cornstarch but also manufacture flour and gluten products - this could lead to cross contamination. So, you may want to look for a manufacture that only produces gluten free product.
So I will be making the turkey the day before this year. Would it work okay to add the 2 cups of broth to the pan to get off the bits and drippings, then strain out the big pieces and keep the remaining (with the fat) in the fridge until I want to complete it the next day? Worried the fat will harden and make it icky to use.
I bought a smoked turkey that was already cooked, it didn’t come with the drippings so what would you do to get the flavor from the turkey for the gravy.
If you plan on rewarming it - use the juices it renders by adding it to a stock or to the gravy. The wings or legs could also be cut off and used to make a stock for the gravy (boil with some veggies in a turkey or chicken stock). Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

@@thesauceandgravychannel - It was perfect! Everyone loved it! But instead of using butter to make the roux I used some of the ghee dripping that I slathered on the turkey before baking it.
