Bill Nye I love you dude, thank you for being an influence on me and giving me a love for science! you really are one of the greatest influencers of all time getting kids interested in all forms of science!
Nárciso he made an episode of a tv show or whatever, that speaks about gender and sex and stuff like that, many people judged him because they said that it's not scientific, so that's what started the hate bandwagon
On the inertial dampener topic, they're also used in helicopters to absorb some of the vibration of the rotors. They're basically large spring loaded weights that can be installed in the aircraft. The SH-60B, which I worked on, had two of them installed in the ceiling of the cabin, basically right under the rotor head.
because people come here to see neil and neil has weird likable voice and techniques and the topics he talks about is kinda fun, he is just fun guy to listen to i dont think anyone hates bill really
Bill Theiss, costume designer for the original Star Trek, is my 3rd cousin once removed. His great grandfather was brother to my great great grandmother. Amazing :)
I've got my laptop audio output connected into a modular synth setup to play around with talkshow audio as an exciter for feedback/resonance while I listen as a method of "jamming" and just listening and all of Chuck's vocal sound effects are throwing excellent richness into the mix! .. Oh man and his fast talking when he gets passionate drives the Bastl Softpop's clock into overdrive! Great stuff
Bill Nye, you're burning strong! Thank you for taking time to educate us. I've watched your career change and you've done good to cut out the middlemen. I know it's tiring to see the same uninformed strings of words over and over, but you're fighting a memetic ego and not individuals and you're winning. If more of us could be more like you we'd lift the weight off each other in no time. Thanks again for working hard. Please be easier on yourself. just a thing: I think when some people ask about fantastical concepts possibly being real, they don't want to hear "That doesn't work and if it did it wouldn't work very well." Scifi lovers know that, but want to conceptualise an ideal where it COULD be built. The longer and lengthier the pseudoscience reach, the funnier, basically. Thanks Chuck for being interpreter.
It's nice to see someone in these comments not unfairly disparaging him. : ) Took me a while sifting through the comments. I just wanted to say thanks for being kind. I read a nice comment before I moved on from this page. Also, good point in the second paragraph. Bill, I like you man, but science isn't about rejecting far-flung concepts. It's about embracing them. Sure, time travel may be unlikely, and sure, we have priorities, but let's dream a little, you know? I think he's just exhausted of having to humor unlikelihoods all the while others deny certainties. : /
All these ungrateful nobodies criticizing an expert who is a successful engineer and not a childish youtube commenter who cannot even understand the STEM field.

So sick of the people who say bill is a moron and discredits his intelligence and many many accomplishments. Gender is different than sex, it is what is taught in college classrooms people. I learned it in my Phycology course and it's what the studies are saying. It's time to give up your own ideologies and look at the empirical data. Bill is approaching the topic very objectively , he's just showing what the science is showing. I encourage you all to do some research and open your minds to science, only then can we" Dare I say it? Save the world!"

I believe that embracing change and UNCERTAINTY is the biggest hurtle, AND the biggest factor in allowing humanity to survive and thrive on this world or in the universe beyond.
On "Warp speed, what should the ship be made out of": It almost doesn't matter. Everyone knows that you need a warp *bubble*. You make a bubble around the ship and then *warp* space-time into a higher dimension. You fly through that and end up being faster than light speed. Since your ship is protected by the bubble, you only need materials strong enough for being in normal space, and the occasional phaser hits and maybe a photon torpedo blast. On "everyone speaks English when you get there": In most science fiction stories or books that is not the case, only in pop culture science fiction, which is more fiction than science, and which focuses more on human(-oid) interactions. Normally, either the story includes long chapters on communication attempts (diplomats meeting for weeks) or there are some plot devices to speed up the process, like some form of telepathy solving the issue, having powerful AI communicate and build translators in a few seconds/minutes/hours, etc. And don't forget that entire movies are made around the language barrier, like for example Contact, Abyss, Arrival. Oh, and the Human - Membari war (Babylon 5) started because of a miscommunication, followed by a freaked out human spaceship captain destroying a Membari ship with some important guy on it.
That question towards the end was fun to ponder, I think it would be pretty awesome to show them a nature video wich shows lots of diffrent animals from earth cause nothing should be more cool for them to see, I imagine.
I love how the NA audience finds statements that have been concluded and analyzed by psychology for decades, that literally has no effect on their lives, so passionately controversial. Some people are like coming from the stone ages.
Transporter is the ultimate tech... one can travel instantly in real time ... if one gets sick it will reassemble you so it is healed and when one gets old just step in and it can reassemble you as you were at 25 but keep all memory ...
I'm a teacher and oppose Common Core because of the way in which teachers are required to teach certain subjects. I love the concept of CC but despise the implementation. The methods used for teaching math, for example, are ridiculous and not only often make it more difficult for students to learn, when they do actually learn they are taught how to obtain answers but not how to understand the underlying math. CC is a great concept but it was implemented horribly.
Ed Gloss considering the way they check if your doing it is based on test scores, why not teach your kids the "right" way? If they'll do better, the tests will reflect that.
Trevin Taylor you clearly don’t understand the problem here. Take a kid who has to go to a bad school, due to any number of factors: low familial income, poor housing location, not enough space in better schools, etc. He has bad teachers, and so gets bad test scores. Duh. Well, the best students begin to leave, meaning less funding, meaning even worse teachers, and this type of effect goes on and on. I’ve talked to a multitude of teachers (in the bay area, a very liberal area) who have all said that they did not like common core, and I went through much of middle/high school with common core (and I can attest that it was implemented terribly).
I am a father of two Elementary School students and one Middle School student and I could not agree with you more. I'm also a conservative and am opposed to Common Core. However, I have never heard the argument against evolution from anyone in my camp that is also opposed to Common Core education. Everyone I speak to holds the opinion that it is more difficult for students to learn and that it generally lowers the bar for education. I just thought I would throw that out there as a perspective from a conservative who holds no ill will towards education, Higher Learning, or the educators who may hold differing opinions from mine.
Dr.. Nye, not to correct you but: A laser can act as a "tractor beam", drawing small objects back toward the laser's source.. If such a Bessel beam were to encounter an object not head-on but at a glancing angle, the backward force can be stimulated. The light would pull an object toward the source of the beam even though the beam has the same intensity all along its length. ... The overlapping waves produce a forward-moving beam known as a Bessel beam whose intensity remains constant along its length.
Let me see if I get it.....people are angry with bill because of gender discussion, they want bill out. But do those people know that the real cientist Neil, the beloved, probabily think the same way? Does that mean that Neil has to go too? Or bill stays and become rebeloved again? Almost a paradox...anyway: SUPER SECRET PRO TIP: startalk already has a gender discussion, including Neil as host. Uow, you all should check it out
The thing about the internet is people always believe that "oh you think about something differently than me? Well you must be wrong then, and you must be burned at the fucking stake!" :/ it's stupid and sad to know that's how people think now days, but the truth isn't always pretty.
If you are a person who disregards literally everything Bill says because you disagree with him on a single issue (regardless of if your correct or not is irrelevant, you have your opinion, so does Bill) then you're throwing the baby out with the bath water and are not mentally equipped to handle these kinds of discussions...
the stormtrooper Armor is environmental protection, it will be optimised for the surrounding, even so it feeds them the right amount of oxygen and checks their vital data. in star wars, there is almost no material that can resist laser, that's why they have shield generators when possible.

Ants would never be able to theorize (even if they could) how an advanced human society will be like so how are we so sure that we know how an advanced Alien society / civilisation will be like? Indeed those type 1,2,3 civs are just another human construct which might be saying more about the things that we don't know than for the things we do.

Every night, when I go to sleep, I time travel to the future. Let's say that I get 8 hours of sleep. If someone watches me sleep, time drags on so slowly. On the other hand, when I wake up, it feels like only minutes have passed. Without clocks, or being able to see the sun's position, I would never know that I had slept for hours.
Why people hate Bill Nye?, because he goes full SJW all the time, like in this talk. Started talking about femminism and leftwing things when the questions were not related.
You should submit a question to the Cosmic Query show. Does the expansion of space affect the progress of time? If a wave in the ocean appears to slow the motion of water down (water moving on an x-axis now has to also move on a y-axis), does a gravitational wave appear to slow time down (even if infinitesimally small)?
Imagine this...EM radiation from infrared to gamma rays, ALL travel linearly at the speed of light. if you remove the "higgs field" the "light" could travel faster than the "speed of light" relative to its energy. For example, ir radiation has a long wavelength with lower energy than a gamma ray which has a super short wavelength and MUCH higher energy. Therefore the gamma ray would travel faster than the infrared ray, as the energy within it would be converted to a faster speed. Through this process, an object could be transported through a "NON-HIGGS FIELD" space, and then "reassembled" when it simply reenters "normal" space. There are elements of this concept that I would LOVE to discuss in more detail with Neil or Bill, if either of you think it worthy of discussion.
I'm pretty sure people dislike common core because of questions like "Show how you would get 2+2=5?" and the answer "You can't" is not a correct answer.
I have a question for either Bill or Neil. Getting into space is an expensive endeavor. If we develop the material, could we make a trampoline to send supplies into space(Not humans) ?
I like Bill Nye. Bill! Bill! Bill!
AND of course, the world wide citizen of the World, Chuck Nice!
