I'm unfamiliar with Field Notes! I have heard some people don't take their journals for short trips and then collate everything when they're back which could be a nice option, then you have one journal for the whole year of travel. Otherwise I don't usually keep a travel journal unless I go on big trips! Sorry I couldn't be of more use!
