    This saw rocks, and I just got it at Lowes for $299 - 15% for buying the floor model. One error in this review is that there is a leveler on one leg for uneven surfaces.....the soft start and brake are great additions, and 35" rip capacity is huge for a portable saw

    I used to have the Bosch 10" job site table saw with gravity stand ( great motor), but then I traded up to the Dewalt 10" table saw (DWE749) with mobile stand, the stand is so sturdy under load, it's worth buying the Dewalt for that reason alone, the back legs are angled way out, and it's like the saw is bolted down. Great when ripping sheet material.

    If I hadn't already bought the DeWalt 7491RS, I would have bought this.
    Cheaper at $329 at Lowe's and a wider rip capacity.
    Out-feed support too.
    It would have been perfect for the amount of use I give it.

  • @dfs7979
    @dfs7979 3 года назад +3

    Rob why do you like the DeWalt better? My old Ridgid just died and I was looking at the Metabo HPT C10JRSM next to the DWE7491RS at the store. I kept coming back to the Metabo and ultimately selected it. I liked the larger table, rear outfeed support, larger capacity, and slightly sturdier fence. I also felt that the quality was better. Now, this could have been perception because it looked like the floor model of the Dewalt had been left out in the rain because there was rust everywhere. The DeWalt does have a nice quick removal feature for the riving knife but 99% of the time I run with no guard but with the knife. I also noticed that the Metabo knife can be lowered below the blade level for plunges into 3/4 stock - Anything more the knife would have to be removed. I'm wondering if I missed something? Is the DeWalt just a better running saw? Thanks!

    • @fabianorellana1172
      @fabianorellana1172 3 года назад +1

      Bro I had the same experience. I was comparing side by side at the store and the Metabo looks so much better. It just look a better quality. The Metabo was more steady than the dewalt. It also has a 35 inch rip capacity. Now that I am using it I'm very happy with the performance.

    Thanks for the video I just picked one up at Lowes for 329, I'm just getting into woodworking and needed a better saw, my wife's uncle gave me his old Delta, no riving knife, no blade guard, it looks like 1/2 of the throat plate is missing, it just felt dangerous to me and as a brand new table saw user I wanted something more modern. I was wondering about the stand, you answered that question thanks.

    Regarding the Hitachi soft start switch issue. My saw is 2 months past warantee. I called Hitachi and the customer service rep said to simply take in the saw into a service center and they would honor the warantee and replace the switch. He also said they would send me a switch free of charge along with a wiring diagram. I am having them send me the switch as the install the rep described sounds pretty simple.

    At 5:35 min, you wished that it had a leg leveling system. The right, front leg has an adjustable foot. I wish that it also had a spirit level built in., but that may be asking too much. But most importantly it is stable. I found that for its price range, this model is well stabilized.

  • @michaelmancini5773
    @michaelmancini5773 4 года назад

    Just a little sidebar Rob, I have the Bosch 10" table saw with gravity stand ( convenient, not stable), and i have the Dewalt 8 1/4" table saw with the rolling table saw stand ( very stable, and convenient) the bosch is the better saw, but I prefer using the Dewalt because the stand is so steady when ripping large sheet lumber, there's no substitute for a steady base on a table saw.

  • @30smsuperstrat

    I tried this out in the store today. The fence had quite a bit of flex when extended off the table. It was sitting right next to the dewalt dwe7491. It's obvious that hitachi is working with dewalt on This model. There is more similar with these two then sawstop and Bosch , if you know what I mean. The biggest thing for me was the fence flex and the fact that instead of having the flip over piece like the dewalt on the fence that gives support in full extension it rotates. What this means is unlike the dewalt you can't flip that part over the fence while it's on the table ripping narrow pieces where on the dewalt it acts like a spacer to be able to still safely use a push stick with narrow stock. For a home diy or woodworker that's a disadvantage that could be worth the difference in price.

      A Concord Carpenter / ToolBoxBuzz that's true but those thousand people are a great durability test. The dwe7491 sitting next to it probably had the same thousand people play with it. I'm really torn because it has a lot of great features. Outside of the fence that felt a tad bit flimsy in the locking latches, could have been the setup, I wouldn't have blinked an eye at buying it over the Dewalt and using the $ 180 in savings for something else in the shop. But now I see this is coming and I'm like, no way ,lots of torque and a rack and pinion fence.

    Bought this at big box blue store on sale & because I liked the portable wheels. Failed after few uses, cutting soft redwood. I could not return because I waited after 90 days to start using it. Soft-start module failed and prevents reset. Part is back ordered 3-6 months. Look at all the 1 star reviews on Amazon and Lowes website same exact problem. When I tried to leave a review on Hitachi website for this saw, they rejected it, very dishonest on their part since I was warning people about their defective soft start sensor which will prevent you from starting the saw even if it's not hot and you wait 24 hours. There is nothing you can do except wait 3-6 months for this back ordered part. Hitachi customer support is bad, they don't care so buyer beware. This saw should be recalled. How is it they have parts to keep selling it in store, but can't provide parts for service and they have bad customer service.

    After one year of owning this saw (based on this review and the 349 price tag at Lowe’s) I have to say it’s a let down. Within the first few months many of the factory tightened fasteners were coming loose. None of them had any locktite or even lock washers. The motor itself comes out of alignment constantly. At six months two of the welds holding the frame together snapped. On top of that hitatchi both through email and through referred vendors has now
    Confirmed that the daddy insert is actually a myth. Yes, I made one but the design of the throat is such that it snaps when passing material through it. Also, the power cord feeding the motor doesn’t actually allow you supply a full 15 amps to it so forget about even a 14 or 12 gauge extension cord. Spend the money and buy the dewalt. Buying the hitatchi to do any real work is like buying a plastic fork cut through a steak; it will get the job done for a few minutes, but in the end you may end up chewing on chunks of plastic.

    Great review! Hitachi has done a complete 180 in the past year; they've come out with the best impact on the market in the Triple Hammer, the most powerful cordless drill with their recent hammer brushless model, and have introduced some excellent new cordless nailers. I have the DeWalt 745 and have been on the fence between keeping it and buying a stand or returning it and buying this Hitachi. Either way I'd be spending about the same, but the DeWalt would be more portable since it can detach from the stand (but doesn't include dado capacity which isn't a big deal for me). Hello,
    Why do the miter gauge slots have their top edges beveled?
    It seems it is not possible to remove miter guage play using nylon expansion discs due to the beveled edge.
    Is there any good quality miter guage that can work effectively with the beveled slots?

    Real world comparison between rigid 4514 and metabo 10in. Metabos fence is not sturdy too much slack in the pinion fence when locked. All plastic. Very cheap feeling. Ripping 3/4ply beyond 28in the fence and support were very unstable. The stand were very stable is a pain in the ass pushing 4 separate pins. Basically it has great features poorly executed. Janky feeling. Overall I would recommend I as a beginner/budget saw. Has great power just dont think the plastic on fence and pinion are durable enough to last thru the years. The rigid lacks metabos features but is solid and sturdy overall. The out rigging of the fence for wider rips is strong sturdy and durable. Gave me confidence when ripping 3/4 unlike the metabo. Part of the table on the rigid separates and slides out to support the fence when ripping beyond 13in. Very nice feature that NO OTHER SAW DOES! Why not? Relying on the dinky fence and pinion alone to support 3/4ply common. Also rigids stand it foot actuated. No pins to pull. No bending over and its overall weight it 20 or so lbs lighter than the metabo. If the metabo felt sturdier and Amazon could a actually deliver it without damages(sent it back twice! ) it would gave been a keeper. Rigid out shines. Would rather gave a dewalt but not at their price point

    I need some assistance. I bought one about 2 years ago and used it once to put my flooring in. Had been stored in my garage since that job. I pulled the saw out this past weekend hoping to cut some 2x4. When I go to turn it on the saw cycles for like 2 seconds and stops. The motor appears to stay on until I manually shut it off. I saw the reset button and tried that but it didn't help. I hope it's a simple fix.

    I bought one of these saws about four years ago. I have not used it very much, so little use that a worker on a job site would have more wear on the saw in two weeks than I have used this saw. The other day the blade stopped moving up and down. Discovered there is a steel threaded rod that goes through a threaded piece of aluminum on the motor housing, that raises/lowers the motor and blade. The threads on the aluminum have stripped out or just worn out. I called Metabo/Hitachi and explained what had happened, their attitude and response was never heard of that happening, it would not be cost effective to repair it and I would just need to buy a new saw. Very poor design, in my opinion. Steel will wear down aluminum. New motor from the maker sells for $155 but they will not sell to an individual. New motor from a supplier is $190. We are going to try and fix this motor. Why would a person buy a new motor or the same saw when it obviously has this kind of a problem. If we can't fix it then I will buy a different brand saw....

    Rob do you mind giving us all an updated review of this saw? Do you think it is still a close second to the dewalt, since the buy out of Hitachi? I am hobbiest and am looking at the metabo and Dewalt 10", just not sure the dewalt is worth the extra money. Plastic gears are concern in my opinion. Thanks in advance and keep up the great reviews.

    • @user-mv3qe2wi5u
      @user-mv3qe2wi5u Год назад

      If you see this, I just posted my comments about the saw and I would not buy another one of these saws. One would think the plastic gears would wear out first, nope. The threaded steel rod wore down the threads on the cheap aluminum or pot metal attached to the motor. The result is motor/blade will not raise or lower. If you can find a new motor that is the only fix other than a new saw. Will not buy another one. My son-in-law is thinking about a way to repair this motor......

    I bought this saw on Black Friday today. I run the saw and the power keeps tripping when I used shop vac. I unplugged the shop vac and ran with 12 gauge cord alone with the table saw. It tripped again. What went wrong here? Do I have a lemon motor? Does this saw must be on dedicated line to run it?

    I bought the Metabo version of this Hitachi, pretty much based on the results of this video, and a few other videos showing very high reviews and recommendations. Metabo bought Hitachi, so it's the exact same saw with a different label on it. Having said that, I have noticed something that I cannot seem to figure out with this saw. The riving knife seems to be permanently affixed and cannot be removed or replaced, which presents a few problems. If I want to use a thinner blade, the wood won't pass the riving knife without binding, which obviously is dangerous. Also, if I want to use certain table saw jigs that require the riving knife to be removed, again.....I am unable to do so. Is there a way to resolve this???
