FYI: Once you have run the stitch, you can also snip off the excess fabric and run an overlock stitch to prevent fraying. I have never bothered myself, as the excess fabric is pretty thin and doesn’t interfere with anything, but the option is there if you want to :)
Whaaaaat, call yourself a skinflint?!?!? How can you spend £££ saving the grammes on the bike then carry around the equivalent of an extra curly wurly needlessly! Mind blown :)
I'm glad you bring this up. I do this as well. In general it's amazing how a tiny bit of knowledge, even just sewing by hand, can fix so many things in life.
One thing that always worked for me. Got size smaller jersey, washed it, half dried and put it on for some time. It stretched where needed and now its really comfortable and tight
Awesome! Great content. Thank you Luke aka Trace Velo aka Plentiful Expressions & Gestures :-) 😎 Funny, growing up I had a friend who's cheeky-chappy mannerisms and gestures were almost identical to yours LOL (used to crack us up)
Ooooo - look who's a proper little seemster😉😉😉 Funny enough, I've recently bought a Brother sewing machine, almost identical to yours. I've been thinking of taking in t-shirts & trousers. But now you've shown that I should tailor my jerseys as well👍 It seems your just like me - a non materialistic bloke who likes saving money and improving things😀 💪💪💪💪💪
This was a very helpful video sir, good job! I've often found the cheaper Jerseys lack that fitted feel so ill definitely be giving this a go! The good thing about giving it a try is that the Jerseys are so cheap that if you screw it up, you won't cry into oblivion!
You could also use a stretch stitch is your machine has it then it will not break threads putting on/off. Alternatively a narrow zig-zag could also provide the seam to stretch if needed.
GREAT video! I had the exact same problem of the jerseys being too baggy and thought it was just because I'm too skinny compared to most people. Looks like a lot of people will find this useful!
My first jerseys from Ali, I got my mum to do this, also the jersey was very loose around the arms. But since then I bought the slightly more expensive "aero" jerseys and I bought a size smaller, and then fit perfectly snug everywhere. just as if I bought one for 150 euro from certain snob cycling brands.
Mate, you're a bike mechanic, presenter, video editor with special effects(ish) and now a seamstress! Is there anything you can't do? Btw, I've got a patio to sort out this weekend, and the wife wants some curtains made, so if you've got a couple of hours spare.......
I never found cheap jersey that have decent sleeve length like the one you wear in this vid. most of them quite short and baggy in the sleeve. recently found racmmer aero fit, much better. will try this method on previous jerseys by hand stiching.
Nice 👍 thanks to help us safe money while ride our bikes. Got my china carbon bike finished and love it. When i was in the bike shop for cutting the fork to length they asked how fucking expensiv the fork was because Carbonda made a good job
This is a great idea. Have you looked into changing the zips? That's the main issue I have with these cheap jerseys - the zips are terrible plastic and come apart straight away
Since I can't use a sewing machine for the life of me I took a different approach to get the jerseys fit me tighter. Let's me explain. I stuff my face 3 times a day with 4 bicmacs in only 2-3weeks they will fit you like a second skin. Give it a try highly recommend.
Yeah, I got myself a "Dornen?" windproof jacket for around £8 and it's brilliant. I tested it by leaving it on a chair during a long rainstorm. No leaks. Obviously, you'll get sweaty if you're on a long ride..
I've got a couple of Rockbros ultralight wind jackets and really like them. They are not a tapered sport cut but one has Tour de France on it so has to be fast. a.aliexpress.com/_dYYC9Fm Not tried any other expensive brand to compare, but they look similar to what is in shops and they are not just Italian sizes. Completely not rainproof! Just tight woven poly cotton type blend. Main issue is no rear stretch pockets but they do have a big zipped one that they fold into for storage
I've got a bunch off AliExpress. The Sktoo ones are quite hard wearing and a range of colours for about £7. a.aliexpress.com/_dXQVsUo I got some nice black and tan West Biking ones too for similar. a.aliexpress.com/_dVinMMg If you like them just buy multiple pairs. Note their sizes in charts are reasonably accurate but if you have big gnarly hands, don't expect a good fit.
I think he probably switched back to Shimano? Which is a shame, a few weeks after his video about the broken shifter the Manufacturer (Sensah) released a new version where the part that broke is made from aluminium.
Sewing 101 with Trace Velo.. that's something I wasn't expecting! hahah n0ice job dude, easy explained and done, will def help a lot of people! now please Luke, please stop rubbing that chinese speedplay pedals on our faces and give us a little taste, you've been rocking it for some time so I guess it works well! at least better than the magnesium ones..
Hello! I have a question. I bought a jersey but it is quite too baggy in sleeves area. Can I tailor it without damaging the whole jersey? It's really loose for me
I'm curious about how to tailor sleeves, including the sewing and elastic grippers, as no matter what jersey I get the sleeves are always too big... Especially important in terms of aerodynamics around the sleeves and shoulders. Any tips?
How good are these jerseys in terms of ventilation? I have a few jerseys and I am too hot in some of them, whereas in others (well-known brands, but more expensive) I feel fine. I can't imagine climbing the Greenhow Hill in a jersey that has poor or no ventilation at all.
If you look at the advertisements they show close ups of the fabric. It is usually highly textured with ventilated 'holes'. Not full holes but as if they have half the threads of the main fabric. The panels under the armpits are also usually more ventilated too. And on a hill I always unzip
is it only for me to feel as if I was wearing a can when having low end stuff like this on whereas even cheaper rogellis make me whole breathable??? I don't like rogelli sizing and you need to correct their stitching too because they happen to unstitch but comparing to china import the quality of their material makes a world of difference even in the low price range...

Brill.... You can always backstitch at the beginning and end to 'tie off'. Most machines have a button you press to run the machine backwards for a few stitches. That said good video sir. Now what about a decent pair of cycling gloves. I've had a few pair now from various local supermarkets and non of them offer much in the way of comfort or longevity. How about a glove video?
I've used the aldi ones for donkeys - tbh i haven't found they fall apart any quicker than more premium ones, although i don't think i've had anything "posher" than a pair of basic bontranger ones to compare. the aldi winter gloves are fantastic - i compute daily throughout the year, so they get heavy use - i rate them higher than any others i've tried, plus given i lose one or both on a regular basis, not as upsetting to have to replace!

Hi. Since your chinese groupsed broke what groupset do you use now?
Wife has three sewing machines so all my kit fits like a dream. She has a lot of sewing machines and I have a lot of bikes. Winner.!!!

most underrated cycling youtuber - way more relevant and entertaining content compared to the big boys like GCN etc these days.

nice to see that people actually receive the stuff they ordered ......
Well, that channel escalated in a sewing tutorial channel quickly! *insert meme*
Cheers, actually ordered a few that were a bit loose, but have wicked designs, time to take them in
Yeah do it! Only takes a few minutes and can really transform how they look and feel!

Welcome back to another quality video about sewing
For the love of Flying Spaghetti Monster, Luke, please keep making content. Hilarious and great content.
who else is getting their mum to do this for them?
Exactly what I was just thinkin'!
I asked my mother in law, she looked at me like I’m crazy 😂
I just ask my grandma😂

Sleeves yes! I've seen the opposite as well. Fit well through the body, but need weight lifter arms to fill out the sleeves!
Love it so much. Lost some weight gonna need to do it.
what ive been waiting for!!

You may want to stitch the jersey along the arms too. They can really become a second skin!
Great stuff Trace! Would love a Ultrasonic cleaning revisit. How cheap and small can you go?
Hope you try a more expensive Chinese brand like Santic and Spexcel. Thanks
You're a real renaissance man.

Cookies work too...
@@markfisher7962 I could implement them in my jersey fitting routine, good idea mate.
😂😂😂
But I don't wanna sacrifice my perfect-for-climbing body(coming in at a weight of 52 kilos)
@@reapanomin899 well for my method to work you have to be committed and can't cut corners 😂
You don't even need a sewing machine, you can just use a needle and thread...🤷♀️
Takes as bit longer though
that actually looks like a fun thing to do to improve sewing skills
Just wondering. Could you not buy the women’s jersey that is more tailored into the waist
it would just be extra baggy on the front I would guess :(
For the next one bikepacking frame bag ?
Have you tried any waterproof/windproof jackets from ebay/aliexpress? It would be interesting to see how they compare
Yeah, I got myself a "Dornen?" windproof jacket for around £8 and it's brilliant. I tested it by leaving it on a chair during a long rainstorm. No leaks. Obviously, you'll get sweaty if you're on a long ride..

Luke, can you give me an update on the bike you built for a friend, would love to know if it's still ok.
Great tutorial, thanks !!
Your shifters are new are those Chinese manufactured as well? Kindly do a revew thank you 😊
I think he probably switched back to Shimano? Which is a shame, a few weeks after his video about the broken shifter the Manufacturer (Sensah) released a new version where the part that broke is made from aluminium.
Look very much like 8-speed Microshift
Nice work, Luke.
Well a man of many talent's but I think in keeping with the channel, it should be an AliExpress sewing machine 😂
as its coming to winter how about a vid on lights
I've corrected this problem with few beers a week. no jersey are baggy anymore!
Can u make a cheap chinese cassette review🙏🏻

Review the new ISM saddles that are on Aliexpress, and the Sensah 12 speed groupset, and the dual piston cable brakes on Aliexpress.
Hi, I have two jersey that I really like but they are not full zipper. Do you have any explanatory video about a zipper modification
Very informative! Thanks

It's not exactly an endorsement. He's suggesting your cheap Chinese tat is dangerous.
I’d be a little concerned about chafing where you’ve taken in fabric in.
Your grip tapes. Do you do two tone your self or are they special ones. Cheers
Yeah I'd like a video on how to do the bar tape please!
great vid
What are the type/style of shorts you wear? Finding long slim fit men's shorts is difficult
What work stand should I buy for my bike?!? Should I pay up for the park tool?
Do bike lights next :)
Should've done the sleeves too
Hey Luke I just recently purchased a jersey off of AliExpress and I wanted to get your opinion on whether or not I can have it tailored
I need to get my wife to watch this.
I don't quite grasp how it shortens the width, I expected there to be cutting of fabric.
What about the length? At 179cm I found all the Chinese jerseys to be tens of centimeters too long making them look like jerseys from 20 years ago
Can material be added in these regions to accommodate my ever-increasing gut? Asking for a friend, he still wants that aero look.
There’s a time trial club near me full of fat lads in £5,000 worth of gear. I’ll ask them for you
They do up to 6XL sizes which is about a 3 or 4 XL in Anglo sizes
Hello! I have a question. I bought a jersey but it is quite too baggy in sleeves area. Can I tailor it without damaging the whole jersey? It's really loose for me
Why didn't you use a stretch stitch instead? It would be a lot stronger, and not interfere with the natural give of the fabric.
super nice
When we going to see those microshifts you have on your bike
You're awesome!
what about cycling socks from Aliexpress vs other brands?
