PLEASE NOTE: You will have to get the ECU flashed at an approved Honda dealership alongside replacing the restricted air trumpets in order to get the full unrestricted power. I was able to get this done for only an hour's labour at my local dealership.
What was the implications of this on your insurance mate? Did you have to do redo rego and inform insurance company as well?
Thanks for the video. Do you think you could simply dremmel the old trumpets? Is the depth that big of a deal? The cost is about $160 for new trumpets... seems a lot for some shorter plastic.
@@motorheadxi that depends on what state/country you live in, what insurance company you are using and what honda dealership you are dealing with. When you sign up for insurance they ask questions like "is your motorcycle modified" which in this case it would be, it then comes down to the insurance company and the particualr policy if that is an issue. If the engine developed an issue and Honda was aware it was modified you can be certain the warranty would be void. Technically it is no longer a LAMS bike after the modification in Australia also as it is a power modification. Having said all that if you were sensible with the modification (i.e dont put a loud exhaust on it) then the average officer isnt going to know or care and its a Honda so the engine is probably going to be fine as long as it is correctly tuned afterwards as he mentions.
@@1StefenM You'll still need to tell the Engine Control Unit (ECU) that there is a change in air flow otherwise it wont know what to do with all the excess air going in the bike and probably cause major problems
@@Alex_Hetherington So a brand new bike with new technology cant adjust AFR? I find that hard to believe, I'm sure you'll be fine running air filter and exhaust and get a tune whenever you'd like. I'm almost sure the in 2023 newer ecu can adjust fuel and not just blow the engine up. I'm not saying you don't need a tune, you certainly will need a tune if you want full power out of the mods but you don't "need" it.
This has got to be the best tutorial I’ve ever seen. Not just “take these bolts out” and constant cuts to the end of the steps, you actually showed us how to take the bits apart and had great camera work too. Really appreciated this! Hope everyone else follows suit
Cant agree more one of the best tutorials I have seen
This has got to be one of the best reviews I've ever watched. Great work
This has got to be the clearest and best tutorial I’ve ever seen, if I haven’t had seen this video I would be sat the for hours. You actually made it so much easier just by taking us through all instructions
I agree with Jack. This has got to be one of the best reviews I've ever watched. Great work!
Thanks for making such a detailed beautiful video, I can't help but feel that your videos haven't had as much views and appriciation as they deserve. On behalf of all the DIY lovers I thank you. Cheers!!!
Best instructional video I've seen. Paced, detailed, to the point, easy to follow, thank you
A MASSIVE THANK YOU FOR THIS!
i know the cb650r is a new bike, and i'm new to bikes myself. i think this is the first video I've seen where I've truly seen the inside of the bike!
Love the detailed videos with the toolkit requirement you present! Can you make a video for changing brakepads front and back? Great Job with the Videos! 👍
The best DIY video regarding Honda CB650R on RUclips!
This an AMAZING and VERY relevant tutorial. I really needed this guide for my bike and you helped out so much with this video. Keep up the helpful context!
Thanks to your video, I got the courage to work. It's a friendly and detailed explanation.
Absolutely best content on working on the CB650R! Subscribing straight away.
So glad I found your channel, I should be getting my CB650R next week so nice to have clear and helpful videos on hand. Great job!
Glad to hear it! Have fun, it's a fantastic bike. Are there any mod tutorials you'd like to see?
@@RAFHonda cheers. It's going to have a heated grips, screen, quickshifter, tail tidy, charging adapter and akro exhaust which are the ones I wanted so I will update after I've been riding for a bit. Any standard maintenance videos for it would be grand though until then
Awesome shakedown, pretty good content to show someone how to reach some of those hard to get spots in the bike.
Many thanks dude!
Looking to get a CB650R moving up from scooting and my research brought me here. Great content! Liked and subbed.
***** 5 stars for starting the video wearing socks and ending with shoes on. Magic!
Many thanks for your kind words! And yes, my toes were getting chilly!
Fellow RAF personnel here and also looking at getting a CB650R, earned my sub!
Thanks for the sub! See you on the road mate
Thanks so much. Your review made the process super simple.
What a great video I do have a request on changing the coolant.that would be a great help, but your videos definitely inspired me to do the work myself.
Oh thank you for this tutorial, I feel more confident about it now !
You're welcome! If you have any problems, ask away
Awesome content dude. Feeling more confident messing with my brand new bike. Thanks alot. Subbed
This is fantastic, thank you so much for the well explained and filmed tutorial!
Now that's what I call a great tutorial. Take care.
Nice work with the video dude, we all appreciate it! Shout out from Austin, TX
clear and concise......great video for cbr riders.
still true, you meet the nicest people on a honda!
Very useful! I will appreciate when I have to replace my stock air filter by a KN one in a few days!
How does the K&N work in your Bike now ?
@@geraldp494 Hello! Not so bad. It is quite easy to install, but honestly do not expect any significant gain if you do not also replace your stock exhaust or at least the silencer and this is valid for any bike. Otherwise, KN, BMC and DNA have equivalent performance and you can keep them for life on your bike. Just watch the price on ebay, it may vary from one merchant to another. I got my KN for 65 euros delivery included.
Muito bom esses tutoriais! Dá pra vc fazer de como remover e limpar as partilhas de freios dianteiro e trazeiro?
Fantastic video.
Gives me lots of confidence to do this myself 🙌
Absolutely amazing tutorial. Thank you very much.
I actually LOVE the air intake design, and the exhaust, and would like it on the 1000
Thanks for the great tutorial! Do you need to drain the tank before removing it?
Thank you for this video. Can you make one for replacing spark plugs?
Also did you do that with an ampty tank or how come fuel was not coming out when you disconnected the hoses?
Nice one mate - not to much yapping.. short and sweet! Thumbs up!
Nice attention to detail thank you. Could you get away with leaving the tank in situ with it upright on the rear bolt?
Great Video. I liked and subscribed hope you keep making them :)
Hi thank you for the video.! My question is it must to update the ECU if i remove the restriction ? 🧐
Thanks! Great tutorial! more of those please :)
Amazing video. Thank you!
Very detailed, Great video!
Really good tutorial
Great video, this is really going to help me out! Cheers
You're welcome! Let me know how you get on.
Great video thank you very much! Will be very sweet if you can do a bar end mirror installation. Honda's bar ends is such a nightmare.😥
I'll see what I can do!
Very nice you share your knowledge thanks.
Looks like Hastings drive, used to live there a while back
Thank you. Very useful video
Awesome video mate!
Quick question. Where does one obtain the air trumpets?
I tried looking online and found little luck
I’m about to buy a used CBR650R. The old dude runs straight free flow pipes, fully derestricted air trumpets and the ECU flash for full power. On the other hand I’m upgrading from a little GSX150R, so maybe if I can get it restricted again, until get enough practice and confidence!
The cb(r)650r is also resistricted via software! Only changing the funnels will not give you full power.
Very good content. Many thanks
Great video man .👏🏼
Grand merci, cher ami britannique !
Tu l'as fait sur la tienne l'ami?
How do those redistricting trumpets work ?, btw very excellent video
Best Tutorial
Awesome video and extremely well explained! One question I’m hoping you can answer is when you change the 4 trumpets (to de-restrict it) do you need to have the ECU flashed to adjust for the full amount of air flow into each cylinder or will the ECU make its own adjustment to produce the claimed 94 hp? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. This includes anyone who has done the same. 👍😎
Since you're changing the flow rate on the exhaust and effectively letting the bike breathe more, it would be strongly advised to flash it so it wouldn't run lean. Almost as if you're doing a full system.
Really good explained video. Would be great how to change mirrors and how to take out end bar weights. Keep doing this videos 👏👏👏☝️
Glad you enjoyed it! I've recorded replacing the stock tail but I'm thinking of doing these so far:
- Mirrors
- Levers
- Bar ends
Any more you'd like to see?
Thanks. It would be great these videos because I want to change mirrors and levers. Also you could record how change or remove exhaust, wheels, chain maintenance .... I’ll keep following you for new videos 👍👍👍👍
@@cojones303 Thanks for the suggestions, I'll be releasing a video every weekend hopefully :)
@@RAFHonda Afterrmarket exhaust fitting?
@@LDrift Would love to, but the exhaust I want (Akrapovic) is about £1000 here in the UK for the road legal version! I'm saving up my pennies!
does it need a changing mapping too for get original full power?
So are you saying that you only need to change the restricted trumpets to factory trumpets to gain power without having to flash the CPU?
Many CB650R riders would like to get their ECU's remapped once of licencing restrictions. A common way of getting this done is by shipping the ECU via post to a reputable service centre. What's the chance of putting out a video on how to access and remove the unit?
Hey, I hope you can help me. You stated, that you would need to go to a Honda dealer to flash the ECU if you have installed the trumpets for the restricted version. Now my question is: can the dealer just flash the ECU or does he need a Micro Controlled Restriction module that would cost another 200€. I could buy a bile that the seller bought restricted so he already has the restricted trumpets. I would only need to install them.
do you know (more or less) how much only the empty tank weighs?
Wait what are the unrestricted factory screws? don't think I've got those
Muito bem esplicado parabéns
De nada! Conduza com segurança :)
Need video open side panel (all) bro , thanks god bless you
How would I know if I have restricted air trumpets, or not?
Awesome thanks 😊
I removed air trumpets totally without replacing it and now I will do dyno tune is it correct or I should put new trumpets?
Do you know if this added anymore low end torque to the bike
Does the fuel tank has to be empty before renoving it, or is there some kind of "spilling prevention system"? Sorry if this question might seem stupid :)
Can this be done without ecu map? I’d assume it would run super lean with all the extra air intake?
Do you get any hp from unrestraing it? Or do you have to flash the ÉCU to get any hp?
Do you feel a different afterwards?
What happens if you remove the airtrumpets but dont change the ECU?
Is this restriction on the US market bikes? I just bought a CB650R and want to know if I’ll have to do this.
Where I can order air trumpets and better air filter? Any links please? Mine is restricted 😔
This is not just a RUclips video but a lesson. Thank you very much. Subbed and liked🤗🤗🔥💯
The usb connector, where did you buy it from and does it deplete the battery when the bike is off?
Thank you so much for your kind words! So I bought the cigarette lighter socket from Honda themselves, the adapter was from an old Samsung phone, and the 2m extension was from Amazon :) It does discharge the battery slightly, so I'd recommend a killswitch on the battery if you go a long time between rides, but because I commute daily, it doesn't affect performance. Hope this helps! Thank you for you subscription, I've many more videos to come!
@@RAFHonda
It does help. I'm now investigating kill switch install🤔. Legend.
how many km did you do on this air filter?
Does anybody know how to remove the throttle restrictor?
Does it need ecu flash?
Mine is already at 14.000kms... around what mileage you replaced the air filter?
How much hp would it up me with only lams change no ecu?
Thank you for this, .... so Easy! i just brought 3 weeks ago 2020 CBR650R they are magic machine, so when i order a replacement unrestricted replacement, what is this to give me in Torque/HP? compared to the Restricted - doesn't it need a retune?
Glad you're enjoying it! I assume your CB650R is A2 restricted (EU Regulations; 47hp/35kW and maximum 0.2kW/kg), and so derestricted to full power, you would expect to see 94hp at the crank; 80ish hp at the wheels. You'd also see a 0-60 time improvement from approximately 5.5/6 seconds to about 3.2 seconds, and a top speed change from about 100mph to 140mph (or there abouts). Hope this helps!
Would this still be the same for the 650f??
Did you have to tune your bike after removing the air restirction?
What does it bring to Remove those?
awesome!!!
Where you have bought the original snorkel?
I am In the USA I just got "CBR 650RA" what does this mean? is it A2?
Thanks!
Great, thank you for the tutorial.
You're welcome!
Hi, great video. Thanks.
But I have a question about disconnect the tubes under the tank. Does the tank need to be emptied ?
Thanks.
It doesn't need to be completely emptied, as the only fuel that will leak is in the pipes. It might help to run it nearly empty to aid in lifting it off the bike :)
@@RAFHonda thanks
Great tutorial mate. Isn't the bike also limited electronically?
Yes, you'll need to flash the ECU as well as changing the air trumpets. Speak to your local Honda dealer, it can be done for a reasonable price :)
SUPER TUTO C EST TRADUIT EN FRANCAIS SUPER MAIS IL AURAIT DU FAIRE PLUS SIMPLE
A little help, for driving two people, how is the Honda CB650R behaving and what are your experiences?
It definitely gets affected by the passenger when it comes to performance, and my girlfriend says that the seat isn't very comfortable for rides longer than 30 minutes, but around the city and shorter distances; apparently it's fine! Hope this helps
Very nice job, I wish you did a PAIR remove tutorial. The A2 restriction is a UK thing? US models got these too?
Many thanks, I'll have a look into the PAIR removal, I haven't done it myself but I should be able to record a video on it. As far as I know, the A2 restriction is European only and the LAMS restriction is for all bikes sold in Australia. I think the US models are sold as full power from the dealer. I may be wrong!
This is done in a lot of european countries (probably in more countries across the world)
Please yes do the PAIR delete if you can, this is the mod I am trying to do now but I am worried as I am new to tinkering on my motorcycle and would hate to mess anything up on my beloved CB
Does every CB650R have this 12V socket under the seat? And when does it give power: on ignition or always?
It does not come stock with the bike but you can get an official Honda one for it! It provides power on ignition only. Hope this helps :)
Great walkthrough. Bit of a noob question but how much fuel did you have when you performed that tank removal? Had you run it down entirely or just on the final bar but tipped to the back?
I had it on the final bar, but regardless of how much fuel you have in the tank, there won't be too much fuel spillage out of the pipe. I don't think it's that crucial, but it may make it easier to handle when you're removing and fitting it!
@@RAFHonda so the pipe just has some excess fuel that was on its way to be burned but does not flow freely from the tank out of this pipe? Maybe it only opens the pipe when the bike is on and the throttle is open?
@@donkeytronkilla That's correct. There's a valve that's only open when the green 90 degree connector is plugged in, meaning you can't drain all the fuel whilst it's unplugged.
Hello, to remove the intake restriction is necessary to change the ecu map? Or just changing that piece i'ts enough. Thank you!
You still need change a software
Why's no one saying that you need to order the clear snorkels and flash the ecu to actually unlock restriction of the bike
If you’ve got the time, a tail tidy fitment would be great. Watching this channel will end in me spending a lot of money during lock down 🤦♂️
😂 maybe for your wallet's sake I won't then! That sounds like a good idea, I'll give it a go.
