I know this is known for CarPlay veterans, but I thought I'd bring some basic early entry into CarPlay guides to help new people out. If you have a CarPlay tip you wished you had been told when you first started out, let me know.
If you deleted the app off your phone you can’t undo that. If you hid them you can just bring them back in the settings area on your iPhone. Settings > General > CarPlay
I feel this needs a video too :) Basically this is system specific. Not all car systems support it. But usually it will be under some system settings for CarPlay specifically. If you don’t see a setting, it’s not possible via the system. You may be able to change it when using a wireless adapter.
You can change the side of the driver in the car play settings. If you take left, the bar is on the left. But you have to restart te radio after changing it or it doesn’t work.
It's likely most of them are default ones, swipe the screen to see more, if you have any. Download apps like Google Maps, Waze, Spotify (if you use any of these) they will appear on the carplay display also as alternative's to apple's own apps.
I think he means dock (the 3 apps showing on the right), I was wondering about that too. The latest version show the dock on the left hand side though.
@@todd2617 ah ok. The side bar is toggled from the car system and usually it’s based on what side you’re driving in the vehicle so the dock displays nearest to the driver. Some vehicle systems don’t allow switching the side dock of CarPlay. Many aftermarket systems allows this as they can be installed in many cars world wide. Some wireless CarPlay adapters allow swapping of the side dock. Hope this helps.
Each app in the side dock will be replaced by one of the same category. So from top to bottom. First is navigation. This will change to any last launched nav app ( Apple Maps, Google, Waze etc) . In the middle is music apps (Apple Music, Spotify etc), bottom is messages or voip (messages, WhatsApp etc). You can not change them. They just show what category of app you last used.
Great, helpful video thanks. I have a Pioneer SPH-DA160DAB installed. The status location icons are on the left hand side of the screen & since my car is right hand drive how do you move them from left to right on the screen please?
Thanks for watching. To change the side of the sidedock, this is only controlled by the system level and not CarPlay. On the pioneer settings menu there should be an option to change driver side, carplay will read this value and display the side of the dock accordingly. I know some systems don't allow this setting, so if you really cant spot it, it might not be possible on your pioneer.
Awesome video, very useful. I see you're a Waze-user too. When I would remove Waze from the Carplay-screen, would that mean that Waze will just appear on the phone and not on the screen via Carplay? My preference for travelling would be: Waze on the phone screen (always on) and Spotify on the car display. Is this possible?
I bought a car link when I plugged it on the USB port I don’t see a green light display but the light is red instead. Does that mean the car link is no good?

How do you add back the apps into CarPlay if you delete them by mistake?
If you deleted the app off your phone you can’t undo that. If you hid them you can just bring them back in the settings area on your iPhone. Settings > General > CarPlay
Can you tell me how to connect Android auto in my audi s3
Sorry I do not know enough about android auto. Check out the Audi module systems from cartizen or CarLinkit
Very helpful. Can you Remove/delete apps Music, messages, now playing, settings from car play?
You can hide or delete Apple Music but not the others unfortunately. Messages possibly but I’ve never tried myself
How do you change tool bar to right or left side

How do have that much apps?
Download them from the App Store. Those that are compatible with CarPlay will show up there.
@@CarPlayLife in my Toyota I can only find 8 🤓

Question Please. How do you edit the apps in the CarPlay sidebar / dock? For example, my own vehicle has Apple Music and you have Spotify

You’re welcome. Glad it helped.

Can I delete Now Playing?
No you can’t. You can only move it to a less important screen
@@CarPlayLife Thank you!
@@CarPlayLife Can I move Now Playing off the tri-screen?
No you can't do that either. That is a fixed panel just for playback of audio.
@@CarPlayLife Thanks again!
You should explore the jailbreak world and use the Carbridge tweak 👌🏼
Ooft! It’s been many years since I last jailbreaked 🥴
@@CarPlayLife you should try it again, the Carbridge tweak is worth enough👍🏼
Thanks this was so helpful!

Sounds like a compatibility issue. I hope you are plugging this dongle into an existing wired CarPlay system?
