    I am Danish and even if we are famous for being somewhat reserved, I am pretty sure Danes will be more than happy to become friends with foreign students. The problem is really to meet and move on from there. Just remember that if you really want to become friends with Danes, it's not enough only to meet at the parties during weekend. Join a sport club, art club or other if you have those interests. You will be surprised how many friends you can get that way.
    Never ever rent a room or apartment without a legal contract. It's not only too expensive but you are left with pretty much no rights in case things go wrong.

      @danigrigaite  3 года назад +15

      Actually, I might have had this experience with danes only because I didnt attend any activities outside my uni... but I know for a fact that they are very welcoming and totally agree with you!
      And yes, the contract part is also true😬

    Kudos for explaining possible solutions instead of complaining about the situations. I'm Danish but spent some years in England - the friends thing is very true, all the more so with Danes not being into "friendship-on-demand" - we generally have a tight group and the "new guy/girl" has to be a good fit for the group as much as ourselves - we don't like drama. Their need to make friends is their need, not necessarily the groups, we may be busy enough already. It changes once we know you're staying here though but we don't invest ourselves easily in fleeting visitors. *If* we ask if someone is ok and they say 'yes' (when they aren't), unless they're blind drunk or bleeding from the head - we'll take that as a 'Yes!' until we really know them well enough to -care- *know* they aren't ok - that's not a game we play with strangers or acquaintances lol I mean we might only have 6hrs of daylight today, we don't have time to chit-chat and play games. Honesty and trust are the highest valued traits/elements for most of us so friendship here isn't so much a casual thing but a longer relationship and that's before we get to Janteloven and the whole "be who you are, don't overstate or try to make yourself more interesting than you are" element that runs through Scandinavian culture in general. I'm ignorant here though, and interested, how different is it from 'home' and how much better do you feel about where you stand ('I got this') now compared to landing?

      CPR - you need to 1) get the residence permit. There is an adress for that. Once you get there, you get the permission and as soon as you get the permission of residence, you can apply for CPR! Then you will get the CPR card to mail.:)
