    Hi and thanks for the tutorial. I never noticed the power consumption feature before and it will certainly come in handy for me in the future. The user friendlyness of the z21 is just 2nd to none. My z21 had it's "day in the sun" when the lads in my club were using intellibox from uhlenbrock trying to program a loco with a 4 digit address. I pulled out the z21 and the job was done in a matter of seconds;-)

      Yes, its so easy to use. Makes running the trains more fun as it doesn't 'get in the way' needing to be rebooted etc.

    Hi Simon thanks for all the videos very helpful
    At present I have Gaugemaster prodigy 2 and have made the boards up which are 2ft6ins 8ft and 2ft6ins all by 2ft wide so naturally am using n gauge
    I have just ordered the Z21 black kit and managed to buy a reurbished ipad 3 to run it
    Hopefully this I will get next week so I best try to get cracking and laying some track and a few points so when it arrives I have something to play with.
    Great work by you and thanks again information is invaluable

    Good tutorial. I too am quite satisfied with my Z21. It runs my N scale and OO with ease. Changing the voltage when switching layouts is a minor inconvenience. Rob

      Thanks Simon,
      this week challenge is to try to program Roco DCC uncoupling track units to individual address code (default address for uncoupling track unit is 80).
      since all 3 operate at the same time.
      Yes I have backed they layout so far, I am teaching my dad how to use Route buttons to change sets of turnouts.
      Keep up the good video
      thanks Tazzi Tiger

      I have receive Technical support from Roco, on how to correctly program de-coupling individually. I will post the full version of steps later.

    Hi SimonJust a tip for others who may have decided to get the z21 after your great review, like myself. Anyway I bought mine off a German seller on Ebay . I set up the apps connecting my ipad to the unit all fine but I could not get any input on the steering board page on the app. To cut a long story short I had to get an unlock code for the unit by connecting to my laptop and then inserting the code and now with the unit unlocked it works great. In fairness to Roco there was a sheet explaining this at the bottom of the packaging, yes I missed it lol.So if anyone else gets this issue, please read all the instructions, unlike me. Not sure why they are sent out in a locked state mind ?

    • @SimonsShed
      @SimonsShed  8 лет назад

      Thanks for the info, I'll pass it on if anyone else comments with that issue. Maybe its a new thing, I didn't have to unlock mine, v. strange!

      There are 3 versions today.
      Z21 (black) with all the bells and whistles
      z21 (white) a little limited in functions/connections
      z21Start (White) delivered without the router and no wireless function on the other hand a Multimaus is supplied.
      If Wireless is wanted in above a code and a router is needed to unlock the z21Start (done via the Z21 maintenance tool)
      either Roco 10814 (router & code package) or Roco 10818 (code only) is needed

      @@peterlarsen3010: Do you know if the upgrade key/code costs any extra, or is it just something you get from the Roco website for free? I am looking into the z21 white for my layout and the exact specifics of what Roco restricts over LAN is not all that clear to me. If it helps, my plan is to use RocRail. Thanks.

    • @peterlarsen3010
      @peterlarsen3010 6 лет назад

      Hi @@BrD61 , this code comes at a cost (this is related to the "Start z21" which is white and doesn't include Wifi though) either as code alone (10818) or as code incl router (10814)
      Then there is the z21white which includes wifi but is limited a little in functions.
      If you buy the black Z21 then all is included plus some further upgrades.
      This doesn't matter what you'll use it for it's just to open up for the communication
      Don't ask me why Roco/Fleichsman made 3 versions and then on top of that naming them so the confusion is total
      Hope this is helpfull

    Been playing with the new 2018 Z21 app for several months now but still unable to Import/Export data from the old to the new. The new controller is good but its going to take days to transfer all data from one to the other. I don't know how long Roco will support both apps so hopefully you can help. Also an excuse to not be in the shed in this beautiful sunshine. David.

    Great useful presentation, well done!! Could you show a video on setting up more complex turnouts for z21, in particular the three way point and the double slip? This could be with seep or the digital DCC concepts turnout. When I use the switch in z21 three way, it only sets two ways not three.

    • @SimonsShed
      @SimonsShed  8 лет назад

      Thanks, I've not used any 3 way points before so wouldn't know where to start, I may do a video on it in the future but no plans at the moment.

    Hi Simon, I wondered if you had upgraded to the new app? I am new to the Z21 and need a tutorial, especially in setting up points controllers. All the info I can get is for the old app which is totally different. Cheers!

    Its a great system but I have found you need to keep reseting it for new values to work Just be aware also the that values on cv's are +4 unless you use the maintenance tool. Took me a while to work out. Still dont understanding that everytime you adjust something within the point control you have to reboot the whole system, and then have to reconnect wifi on your tablet/phone.

    Hi All & Simon Shed
    I am trying to change the address of Roco Geo-line "uncoupling tracks with inbuilt decoders".
    There are 3 x uncoupling track units in Roco Extension kit 51251, they have default address of "80",
    so all 3 uncoupling track unit work at the the same time when press the the button on track control on our I-pad.
    Manual states they can not be giving Loco address, but is it possible to change Uncoupling track unit to individual address?
    If so how?
    Kind regards
    Tazzi for my Dad's train set

    Hi Simon, I've put all of my loco details on my Android tablet. Is it possible to send that info to the Multimaus? Multimaus is currently on factory settings.

    Hello Simon, I am putting my turnouts onto my z21 layout but I am so envious that your layout is all linked together. Is there a a blank piece that can be inserted and if so where do I find it? I spotted it on both your z21 videos and am trying so hard to reproduce my own but my pencil drawn layout is completely the wrong size to get the turnouts sitting on my rails. Thank you , Peter Turner

      Hi Peter,
      My dad's Roco train track is following the expansion set so far, so I download an image, the took and printed it off, then use the camera to take an image on the track control screen.
      There are paid programs that will create you track layout for Geoline track but they cost.
      Happy trains
      Regards
      Tazzi

    If you don't have an android device to access the z21 Updater app, are the z21 updates available any other way? Seems a bit odd that there's no iOS version of the z21 Updater app.

    • @SimonsShed
      @SimonsShed  8 лет назад

      There's no iOS updater app I did check again. I think the must be a way of connecting it to a PC to update it but I've not tried yet!

    Can I run the unit via my house Wi-fi router would it allow the family to still use it on the web and would it also slow me to use internet via Wi-fi rather than the dater roaming

    • @SimonsShed
      @SimonsShed  7 лет назад

      In theory you can use a different router...but I've never tried it. I don't know of a way to allow web access to the layout but I would be very interested if you find a way to do it.

    Hi Simon another great video and well presented...I am a subscriber to your channel and your videos are brilliant. I have just recently got the Z21 black and I think it is a brilliant system although the 1st one was faulty the company I bought it from has replaced it. I have just deleted a few questions I need answers...would you be able to provide me with your email address so I can personally ask the questions I need answers to... I will then put the answers on you channel so everybody else who is having the same issues has I am can benefit too......

      Hmm this www.dccsolutions.com.au/adjusting-sound-volume seems to suggest you need to program CV 63, try setting that to different number (1-255?) and see if it makes a difference.
