Wow, that was a really interesting experiment! The YXF-119 is meant to be a splitter as opposed to a summing cable which might explain the gain reduction. It also lacks the shielding you'd usually require for a mic cable, hence you might get a little noise as you heard near the end. Still, very cool to see it can be used for that purpose even if there are more appropriate ways of accomplishing the same function.
Hosa Technology it was a chance worth taking and surprised me in every way. Really didn’t know what to expect but I was very pleased to see it do the job, even if it wasn’t meant for this purpose. Thanks guys!!
@Advanced Microphone Reviews That's the first we've received that complaint. If you're using our standard range of cables, I'd look into our Pro or Edge series, which includes Neutrik and REAN (made by Neutrik) ends.
Excellent, I had two mics, each with their independent input channel, but it produced an echo while using google meet. Some people told me that the echo was due to having one input uncontrolled , and they suggested muting the input that was not being used. But if you have one person speaking, while the other person is translating into Spanish (for example), then muting one mic is not realistic. I like your solution of using the XLR splitter. Thanks for your contribution.
I’m glad to hear this, because I’m looking to make a specific kind of microphone with more than one sensor, and a toggle, to try to create a specific sound. In my case it’s okay to have noise, so in the event the noise is phase issues, it’ll have a toggle anyway. Haha
You can buy a $40 mixer to put between the mics and compressor input. Gives you individual control over gain and EQ and is a more sensible solution. I know it costs $25 more than the splitter cable but it gives you much more flexibility.
Great insight as to what can be done to maximize audio equipment use. Question: What would happen if you introduced a CL Cloudlifter into your signal chain, connected to the Hosa splitter directly into your Aphex Channel. Would this help any gain loss through the two mic use? Granted, there probably would be some additional floor noise. Curious. Thank you in advance for your response.
To sum dynamic microphones, you need to use a Y cable which connects the microphones in series, not parallel. Condenser microphones should probably not be summed with a Y cable, but if you must do it use resistors so that the amplifiers in each microphone do not unduly load the other. Probably 100 or 150 ohms in series with pins 2 and 3 of each microphone, matched resistors, of course, to keep the phantom power balanced.
I seen a busker with 2 mic 🎙 tonight he had a pretty basic PA system to tower speakers but nothing extravagant I couldn’t tell if he was hooking up because he was a recording or because he was trying some kind of a stereo but anyway he had 2 what looked a big identical Mike’s that he was singing tthrough
can you use xlr y-cable input in powered speaker, which has only 1 xlr input? for example, i have mackie thump 15 with only 1 xlr input, but i want to connect mic and xvive xlr bluetooth dongle? How can I do that without using mixer?
Phase cancellation... bare in mind if you mic up the same source and sum 2 signals they need to be in phase otherwise you get a thinner sound or phasing effect. That is maybe part of the weird noise you are hearing...
How do you set Threshold and Gain Reduction levels with 2 separate sound sources? Have you leveled the microphones with 2 pre amps before going into the splitter? Do you have no ACN at all in the chain? Is it a totally passive combining network to the input of the compressor?
i know this is an older video, but the sound with the y-cable sounds really different on my monitors. Less highs, less lows, kinda muffled. It s less pronounced when you speak into only one mike. Maybe phasing issues?
Is it ok to start podcasting using the y-splitter + 2 identical condenser mics (me talking into a mic and my friend talking into the other one)? what do I have to take care of to not lose quality and stuff like this? *I'm new in audio sciences and its environment* Please help me.
what if i want to connect a microphone to two different interfaces? i need a cable like that one?? should our on the phantom in both interfaces? or i need another thing? thanks man
Hey Lo...again, welcome back. Your energy and unique style of reviews have been missed. So anyway , how do i connect an aphex compressor to my recording chain...how many and what cables do need....I'm not familiar with the names of the ports and their uses....so where do I go in, where do I come out, to what do I plug in, connect etc.......thanks
Yeah, it does nerf the body of the audio a tad bit. The company reaches out to me and said it wasn’t designed for that but it was cool that I did it anyways. I thought it would be cool for a podcast setup to take advantage of a single compressor. But a cool idea for an inexpensive cord.
The reason it adds a little attenuation, and a change in audio, is because the mic impedance changed when the mics were paralleled with the Y cable. A small 60 dollar 4 channel mixer would solve the problem, and give separate gains to the persons speaking.
HI I am Fernando from Puerto Rico. I bought this item by thinking I can used in a mixer and a snake but I it doesn't work. Can you help me. I am the sound technical of my church. Any help be apreciated

@@HosaTechnology HE is why I purchase this much needed gear

Do u mind if you talk about the Aphex in a video

I would love a review of the aphex!
keep doing Videos! U will get big believe me

HEY, that Ycable can works for audio? i mean can i use it to conect to the outputs from a Mixers 2x F. to a my monitor x1 male?
I have a numark mix deck express can I do that with the mics?

Thanks for this video. It really helped answer my questions!
Would an impedence matching transformer help?

Thank you so much sir for your packaged information

Oh.....and a review of the apex, should be on your radar dude
I'm looking for a cheap podcast solution and this may just be it. Hopefully this works. If I have up dump the gain a bit that's fine.
LOL THE INTRO
!!!!!!
Mc Light thanks for catching that
How does the aphex compare to Avalon?
I noticed a little drop in dynamic range.

Hey. I have the same problem in my church. I dont know why. Did you find the solution? Thanks
Can you please give me a TLM103? I'm poor.
Alek Frost I was going to ask you first!
