- Difficult Part is the challenge of killing the Mindflayer first.
When a screetch connects they will suicide bomb the stunned teammate so avoid screetches at all costs.
Working strategy for me was building ATB using Foxflame of Yuffie and Red and Sleeping the Varghidpolis.

Somone actually thought this challenge was ok to be included in the final build of the game. Must've been Hojo himself because not even FromSoft devs are this insane.
I wonder that about a lot of these and mini games it’s like they had some sadist in charge of trying to ruin the game and he did a damn good job
This and Chapter 12 1v1 fight are really out of place

This fight made me hate this game, I spent 4 hours raging wanting to smash my fist through the display. Whoever thought this was ok needs to be fired. The shouldn't be allowed to work on future FF series

I tried at least 4 times before looking up a guide and found this one. Tried once with this party build and completed the trial. Great video, thanks for the help.

Always a good time when the challenge comes from your party members screwing you over and not the enemies themselves.
Cloud did the job - Barett and Red witz instant Toad Ring tanked the small ones. Was very easy that way.

I changed the difficulty to easy
Went alone with Yuffie, equipped Poison and chakra materia, used bio on the main target to inflict poison then throw the shuriken at him and just ran away in circles until he was defeated, it was extremely easy but took way too long, what an annoying challenge

Damn this challenge was a pain. Ended up using Barret w/ Bonus Round & Aerith for distraction and had to avoid hitting the experiments till the Mindflayer dies.
How do I describe the frustration? It’s like telling someone to go left but they go right instead.
If there was a way to program characters and prioritize targets, this would have been more of a FAIR challenge.
I finally did it, but this was so annoying! This would be fair if we could control what the AI hits. But we can’t. There’s also a lot of dumb stuff that happens like the boss teleporting out of a synergy attack or getting stuck in the bound state bc you landed there after the synergy move right when those things were casting their stun spell
It's best if you do it in a team of 2, I used Yuffie with sleep and Barret for high stagger
Had to look up how to do this challenge cause the screechers always kept dying for me lol
Took a few pointers from some of the commenters here
Did it with Cloud + Enfeeblement Ring on the other two party members.
Poison (higher the better) to start off and then Focused Thrust to build up stagger meter while dealing damage
Keep distance and locked on to Mindflayer, Cloud’s ranged attack (dodge + Square combo in Operator mode) is great for building ATB and doing this
Use Infinity’s End or a few Bravers when staggered and GG
I put magnify on sleep with tifa and used her with barret. Took 3 tries. Thanks for the video! I would've never passed this otherwise lol. Now if i could get auto-situp materia.
Need your exact set up and time stamps for abilities used, what Materia in which slots weapons, armour, accessories all that information. Just saying "sleep them" isnt enough I am on my 151st try of this and its just not happening. Chars keep attacking the other minions despite them being asleep. You only get like 3 casts of sleep before they become immune to it and the haste and despite using abilities as they come up. This is just not happening. I need all the information to be able to dissect how this is supposed to be possible. I can only assume you either are high level, or have a Materia, weapon and etc set up method that is crucial for this to be possible
So the level is irrelevant in this mission because it’s set to “Sync”, so this means that it syncs to your characters’ levels.
Materia. I notice they’re using Magnify-Time, on Red which is GREAT because getting the party Hastened is a great way of building ATB. More ATB means more abilities, which means more Synergy Abilities, which means Pressured Mindflayer, which means an eventual Staggered Mindflayer, which means MURDER.
Edit; it also looks like ATB Boost is on Cloud as he starts out with a bar of ATB already filled out. And for Cloud to have this much MP compared to the others, he’s most likely rocking an MP Up Materia too.
Here is how I did it: use enfeeblement rings on Cloud and Tifa so they can distract the other 2, and then use Barret to target the mindflayer while using bonus round to stagger it while keeping your distance.
Just switch to easy mode for this one folks no one will blame you.

I did not think of this.. I'm definitely switching.. this challenge is one of the dumbest fucking challenge there is in a fucking game, I'm fucking exasperated at how stupid this challenge is!! Kudos to those who manage to beat it without lowering the difficulty! cuz that ain't me, this ain't dark souls, I ain't trying to waste hours on one dumbass challenge that the idiot developers decided to put in
This was BRUTAL! I was so mentally exhausted by the time i finally beat this challenge.
I used Yuffie and Tifa. Had steadfast block on both of them.
Magnify+ Time on yuffie.
Chakra on both
First strike on yuffie.
Then i blocked until i built two atb bars and used haste, sleep.
Block, doppelganger, biogra
Switching between tifa and yuffie to keep tifa from attacking the other enemies. All while making sure to use unbridled strength and ninjistu to build their synergy bars.
Use syngery, then sleep so i can focus on pressure for mindflayer.
Stagger, sleep with yuffie, attack with tifa (build the stagger percentage)
Then rinse and repeat.
I stayed with yuffie to make sure if i got hit with the screech then i could use blindside or if tifa got hit with screech i would immediately use sleep to prevent them from going after her.
After 20 or so attempts with different combinations of characters this seemed to work best.
Finally beat it in 2:19min!!! 😭🥳
Wait until you have magnify and stop, was hell using just Sleep
Both don’t last long at all though but I guess stop may be easier? Because when you put them to sleep if you hit them by accident they wake up right away but with stop I think they still are stopped even if you hit them until there time is up. So maybe this is a good idea. Unfortunately I don’t have stop yet though, I haven’t really been using haste much but I do have sleep so I may have to go that route anyway…

You either need to go in using 2 people or cast sleep on the other enemies. I think this challenge is supposed to make you think “outside the box” but for an average player they don’t even use synergy attacks properly so something like this is gona be hell.
It’s not a really well designed fight when the teammates you aren’t controlling get unlucky and get hit by deafening screech and you instantly fail the challenge
whittling down it's hp slowly is far to risky, I ended up just blitzing the boss down quickly and hoped the little shitheads didn't get caught in the crossfire. Trying to whittle him down just caused my teammates to get blown up and fail the challenge. I used Aerith Tifa and Cloud to do it taking advantage of its weird programming when you control Aerith, I have noticed the game tends to become significantly more hostile when you control Aerith and will prioritize her if you are controlling her no matter what, they tend to target you no matter what but with Aerith it is noticeably more aggressive to the point they ignore you team and run for her as you control her. You can take advantage of this by applying her Chrono Aegis to herself that will apply stop to the enemies when she is hit. We are going to lure the little dickheads to the other side of the map and let there screech hit Aerith, this will apply stop to them keeping them locked down and Aerith will recover long before they will. Use Aerith to chip away at distances at this point dancing between all 3 party members and only use Aerith ATB for Chrono Aegis. Aerith isn't here for damage just to build ATB for herself to keep the little dickheads busy
Tifa and Cloud can build ATB quickly and using a synergy skill will pressure the mindflayer. Prior to that build up Tifa to level 3 chi and full ATB and use Synergy skill with Cloud and Tifa for enhanced limit break. With Aerith build up ATB using Chrono Aegis and allow her to be hit by the minions screech, this will apply stop to them automatically. For Cloud don't use Triple Slash but when building up to a Synergy Skill make one of his ATB bars for Prime Mode for the enhanced strong attacks in Punisher Mode, this will help. When Mindflayer is pressued after Synergy skill use Cloud's Focused Thrust and Tifa's Focused strike to stagger it then dump all of Tifa's triangle attacks and dump ATB with True Strikes while Cloud smashes it with Limit Break, if you got Cloud's level 3 Limit Break now is the time to use it if not Ascension works just fine, using triple slash is to risk as Cloud will fly off and kill the little dickheads, Prime Mode strong attacks are a good alternate to Limit Break if Limit Breaks AoE is to nerve wracking but either way Tifa alone can kill it when it is staggered and Cloud is just optional here. Let Aerith play with the little dickheads on the other side of the map and keep her Chrono Aegis up at all times on her to keep the minions locked down. When Mindflayer is dead kill them or let them blow you up doesn't really matter as you win either way

This fight is actually easier with a two member team.
This challenge is the dumbest sh*t I've ever came across in a game. I come in with two characters, put everything to sleep. Literally soon as it's staggered literally everything wakes up instantly screeches and blows up. Dude literally was just put to sleep.
Pour mes français qui galére sans la matéria de sommeil, j'ai réussi avec BARRET (build tank) et YUFFIE (build TOXINE MAX + MAT UP)
Début du fight tu instant lock le flagelleur et tu triangle ensuite choc conbustible (2x en puissance idéalement)
Avec Yuffie tu shuriken au max pour up ton ATB et tu spam toxine MAX des que tu peux en laissant barret TANKER le flagelleur mais TOUJOURS en tournant en rond pour esquiver les petits mobs qui t'encule si tu reste trop prés d'eux
et logiquement en arrivant au 1er CHOC c'est ciao mais ça reste vraiment relou je maudis les mecs qui ont validés cette mission
for me mindflayer just spychotic breaks and one shot whole arena.... so much fun.
Also listeing to chadley complaining that i havent given him more fucking world intel every fucking time i change materia set... Dude has 99% STFU ALREADY.
I just did this one slow and steady with Cloud solo on easy.
Using Focused Thrust to build mindflayer's stun gauge, retreating/pulling mindflayer to me away from the screeches.
Then hiding behind telekinesis rocks when psychosis break happens.
It’s dynamic so I don’t think switching to easy changes anything does it?
@@leocreuu3254 honestly? I don't know. All I know is that I switched to easy just in case, feeling like it may have slowed the aggro of the enemies.
Doing it solo so the ally AI didn't kill the weaker fiends first was the only solution I had available to me, apart from sleep spam.

@@fardeenbeharry I think the only thing that makes it worse than bosses is the arbitrary rule that you can't kill the screechers (not their actual name) first.
Once you know that you can hide behind the rocks that mindflayer throws with telekinesis to avoid the instant death attack, the mindflayer itself isn't actually that tough, it's just a matter of not being able to get your party to sit still, so you lose two members being controlled by AI

This fight is a bitch. The main thing is to CC the 2 supports and focus on the mindflayer. The issue I had was splash damage. I had to have the provoke materia on Yuffie to keep the mindflayer away from his support, but then I had to have a manaward on her because she was the primary target of every attack at that point (along with a Regen).
tried with cloud and tifa for 3.5 hours and i finally killed the mindslayer with a cloud limit break starshower rise and fall. thennnn the mobs self immolated cloud and tifa! i thought i lost, then the victory sign popped up. I cried lol
Use only Yuffie and Tifa. Have yuffie cast sleep on both experiments and get both to focus on taking down the mindflayer. Get a synergy attack with them both , yuffie will likely have a limit break by this point use it and hurry to finish the mind flayer. Once he's dead finish the other two. Got it my first try with this duo and setup
It's completely rng btw, took me over 2 hours with the most optimal setup that was Aerith and Cloud but the entire design of this cancer is just too brain dead to be taken seriously.

I don’t understand this challenge whatsoever. I even looked up guides like this to try and do this damn challenge and I still can’t. Everyone says to right away put asleep the other enemies and I do that the second the battle starts but I swear it only lasts like a few seconds and I’m almost constantly having to apply it. Another annoying thing too is when you hit them by accident they wake up instantly and it’s extremely hard to not do this when attempting to target the mindflayer because the bloody bastard purposely positions himself near them by either just going to them or teleporting to them while your like in mid combo or something so you always end up hitting them which wakes them up. And I swear I try to put them to asleep each time as fast as I can when crud like that happens but it just happens way to often and then they grab one of my dudes and explode killing themself which then makes me lose the challenge. I absolutely can’t do this challenge man. Like how am I not supposed to target the other enemies by accident? Even when directly targeting the mindflayer you will eventually just auto target one of the other enemies if there close by. Like bro I can’t do this and it’s making me pull my hair out cause this is the only dang challenge proving to be well…challenging lol. But it’s like way too much so. It’s not even fun. I hate challenges like this, I just want to kill crap freely the way I want to do it.
1 - go alone with Yuffie
- Equip poison materia and chakra (so you can heal yourself without using MP)
2 - Link the Elemental Materia + Lightning Materia on your armor, this will reduce the damage you'll take from Thundara
3 - Equip the "First strike" materia so you can cast Bio at the start of the fight
4 - use bio on the Main target, once he's poisoned, press triangle just once so that yuffie throws her shuriken to the enemy, the shuriken Will keep attacking the enemy dealing small damage + the damage he will take from poison, keep running from the enemies and use chakra to Heal in case you get hit, the poison status will fade away eventually SO be ready to cast Bio as soon as you can, this method Will take several minutes but it's the most safe because you Will not need to use AOE attacks since the shuriken gets stuck on the Main target
@@Nakatomi_Kagehisa Thank you for the detailed strategy! I didn't know (or forgot from the last game) that you could do team challenges solo. It took me 7 minutes 22 seconds but I got that POS.
The only thing I would add is to cast Doppleganger to double your shuriken damage and remember to re-throw the shuriken because every time he teleports it breaks the lock-on. Oh and I spammed circle to dodge roll, the only thing that hit me was the Thundaras.
I know, it’s literally just do it these 2 ways, or don’t and never complete it, that’s when you know a challenge is bullshit and wasn’t properly tested, I’d argue even one of those things would still make it tough, or just don’t put an enemy that can suicide bomb you, I’m just gonna lower the difficulty and reraise it after, cuz fuck this challenge
There isnt a single boss fight in any Souls game that even come close to the rage inducing BS of this little "training excercise".
I’ve managed to beat this shit with solo Yuffie:
use doppelganger, throw the shuriken to the Mindflayer then spam ninjutsu w/ square while running in circles. Sometimes you can recall to the shuriken to deal damage to the flayer but stay aware for the minions
is mind blast even worth it lol
It's a powerful Magic attack that increases the stagger a little too much but it can only be used once per fight
@@Nakatomi_Kagehisadon’t say to much there is an achievement to get to stagger 300% so that might be how we get it
This is a design flaw on this setup. Anything that you rely on NPC that is not under your control means that you are rely on luck. You rely on the NPC not hitting the other 2 mobs by mistake while you are sleeping. And when those 2 mobs wake up, the NPC should focus on your locked target but not randomly hit any mob. This is purely base on luck then skill. This s stupid. Whoever design this stage need to learn how to design a freaking fight that is not rely on luck. The CC don't work because those NPC will randomly hit it.
This fight makes me feel like im playing FFXIII and i hate it

This mission is such shit game design. Rebirth is insanely content-dense, so I wouldn’t be surprised if this one wasn't even playtested tbh. Whoever concocted this bullshit deserves wet socks forever lol.

Switch to easy mode, then use stop linked to magnify materia. Distance first before using it. 😊

It took me a few attempts as well. You can manipulate the party a little bit. Use Shuriken Sync to get Cloud to the flayer as well.
@@Schnitzlwecka yea, what i did was go only as yuffie and just whittle down his hp 😂 it went well but i had no time and was stressing so i failed, i try to sleep em, maybe stone will help? Stopping them completely and then moving him away from them?
@@adiralon my first strategy would have been stopping the minions, but my materia wasn't there yet. Stone could count as defeated but you might as well try.

probably one the worst designed challenges I’ve played in any video game honestly
I still have not completed this but it’s significantly easier solo without party members however with that said even on easy mode this is one of the more ignorant lame challenges I’ve encountered in the gaming world. This is absolutely obnoxious and not fun/fair at all.
badly controlled ai characters making you fail missions was well known bad game design back on the ps1. what the hell happened Square, this is beyond unacceptable.
F YOU CHADLEY! If you're having trouble, I only managed it on easy mode with just Cloud and Aerith using sleep and magnify, and no AOE moves which means no Thunder God Cloud
This one was annoying as hell, They way I beat it was in one sleep cycle. Yuffie, with magnify + sleep, first strike, Tifa and Cloud.
Cast sleep hope it hits switch to Tifa go hard filling that stagger bar while getting my chi level up. Stagger him then use all my chi attacks plus starfall and he was dead before the other ones woke up thankfully.
