- I had to drop another reaction to Nightwish, I've been receiving so much support from the Nightwish Army I just wanted to say thank you. Floor Jansen does it again here making a live performance look like a cake walk. Just impressive.

"She can probably sing any genre" - Yeh, you're not wrong. I've heard her sing rock, metal, classical aria, country, lullaby, smooth jazz, pop and musical. I've heard her sing in English, Dutch, German, Finnish, Spanish, Italian and Latin. I've heard her do deathgrowls and hold a D6 for 8 seconds. And I've heard her do all those things live on stage.
I am learning all of these things about her, but I am envious of you having seen her live. Her / Nightwish's shows look amazing ✌️✌️
Floor in fact had never been in a studio with Nightwish as of this point in time. She had only been with the band for about 10 months, having stepped in for Annette mid-tour. She was made a permanent member of the band, along with Troy, at about the time of this concert.
thats crazy, until my full assault education today, I would have assumed she was a part of that band for a long time.

They have been a bright light for me when i got clean from opiates. Found a new positive addiction that i wouldn't trade for the world. They made me rediscover my love of music. Floor is just something else, a goddess for lack of better words.

No shortcuts is true. In reality, as none of the songs played here were written for her, she added to most if not all of the songs performed. It's amazing.
I'd never heard her till few months ago myself, and I'm as blown away as you. I dont think there is anyone who can match her for stage presence,, or vocals for sure.
If you are interested to get a quick overview of Floor ridiculous vocal range then take a look her performances for the Dutch TV show called Beste Zangers (Best vocalist). The idea behind the show is that they invite 7 vocalist from different genre's and each episode one of them is at the center of attention. The other vocalist will either perform a song from the artist or sing a song that has a special meaning to them. Even though Floor has toured the world several times she was relatively unknown in the Netherlands. That changed radically after this show aired. She can literally sing any song in any style she likes.
If you to want to look into her pick any song of the show, it really does not matter all them are brilliant. As personale recommendation i would recommend her version of the Lady Gaga song called "Shallow" ruclips.net/video/M68pe4a_9zk/видео.html

the whole show is a fantastic show, i watched the entire season that Floor was on there, it was fantastic. I actually bought some of the single songs Floor covered from that show.
For some reason the stars aligned during this concert. I really don't think there is one off note Throughout the whole thing. That's not to take anything away from their other concerts because they're just as good but this one is one of those once-in-a-lifetime performances that will be remembered forever.

I personally think this was their best concert recorded.
It is their stellar performance but also this is Wacken - one of the biggest metal festivals on the planet and one of the best, they pack a production what only few places can. So indeed, many things aligned and the result was a real masterpiece.

Nightwish is not only Floor, Toumas the Keyborder is the Composer and the Head of the Band and the Bandmember are phenomenal Musicans. Emppu the Giutarplayer, Marco the Bassist and second Singer with a wonderfull Voice and Jukka the Drummer (now Kai Hahto, his friend, because Jukka has insomnia for long Years).
Don’t stop, the road ahead is full of the most amazing catalog of performances you have ever experienced in your life!

The choir in the background is part of the backing tracks that they record with the London Philharmonic orchestra & choir. They record each instruments separately so Tuomas can rearrange them however he needs for the live shows. I have seen a video where the producer and engineer mentioned that for their most complex song, The Greatest Show on Earth, they had to record over 600 individual tracks.
Thats insane... I struggle to edit a video with 2 cameras and a single audio track. There is definitely genius at work with the composition and production of their music

She is the best. I am over 50 and have never heard any singer like her.
Many are great within their limited genre or a bit more, but she spans all and excels. Watch all her Beste Zanger performances to hear her in other genres as well as other languages. Also her singing the aria o mio caro is awesome too.

After checking out a lot of Floor's live performances, including many that are not with Nightwish, I've come to the conclusion that she is the finest female vocalist on the planet! She can sing anything at an amazingly high skill level. She's like the Willie Mays of vocalists; there's nothing she can't do.

She switches between pop-rock styles and operatic classical technique in the same song. Hell, the same sentence. According to the vocal coaches on here, it's actually very hard to do this seamlessly, because it's a totally different way of placing your voice, the literal shape of your mouth and throat and the way you project the sound is utterly different. It's like you're trying to lift dumbbells and do stomach crunches at the same time.
One coach says she's worked with singers who do both pop and opera shows, and they will not sing operatically on the same DAY as singing pop because it's so hard to switch. Floor Jansen flips in and out of them like it's nothing. Simone Simons of Epica can do it too, but not too many people can.
I really wish I could be there, the most amazing show on Earth.

You've finally met the Queen! Arguably the most versatile and powerful female voice in the world. From opera to hard metal and everything in between, you're just scratching the surface of what she's capable of. And subbed for more Nightwish! Live is best - from Wacken 2013 which has ultra hi-quality recording: 1) EverDream, 2) Romanticide (harder metal but an example of her jaw-dropping 4-5 octave range at the end), 3) Song of Myself - and all the rest from the same concert is incredible. And there are great operatic vids of her like Phantom of the Opera and so so much more. Anything by Floor Jansen and Nightwish is amazing. :) Glad you've finally discovered Nightwish - and get ready to be invaded by the Nightwish Army - they're coming! :)

Yep....To hear her, Marco and Troy sing and the boys play the music so tight. The other reason...To watch the faces of the reactors after a few notes and chords. Makes me smile every time when the eyes open wider and the jaw drops. So many say," How have I never heard this band before".
I never got to the "how have i never heard this" stage, even though i appreciate any form of good music, when it comes to music i would just pop on and listen to while I ride my motorcycle, Metal wasn't it for me. So it was clear why I never heard of it. But I have some friends back in the states that do and they were all like how have I never heard of this 😂😂

I've watched about 80-90% of all nightwish reaction videos on youtube over the past few years, and I can confidently say that you're one of my most prefered reactors at this point. No exaggerated jumping around/head bobbing etc. You focus on the music and seem to truly have the same reaction as me when first hearing floor, basically just having to close your eyes to listen closer, kind of in disbelief. Then just watching in amazement. :)
Trust me, you haven't really heard much of what she can do yet. I'm envious that you have so many songs left to hear for the first time! :)
ps. Personally, I think the 2 best songs of Floor to really showcase her vocal ability by itself are "how's the heart (acoustic live)" and "Beste Zangers - Shallow"(not the duet version, although that one is good too) But really, you can't go wrong no matter what song you pick! Hopefully you'll get to them all in time (there's a lot) :)

I am both excited and a bit overwhelmed with all the music I have ahead of me. But I will do my best to get through it. Really enjoyed the two reactions so far, you don't need to worry too much about pausing - it's really clear that you're enjoying it, so we're going to enjoy seeing you enjoy it :).
You'll get a lot of suggestions, and all of them are good. The one thing I'd recommend is holding off on Poet and the Pendulum as well as the Greatest Show on Earth until a bit later. Those are a couple of their really "Big" songs, and you appreciate the nuances in all of that after you've heard a bit more of their stuff.

Thank you, I've been warned about Poet and the Pendulum, so will wait a bit until my brain is a bit more prepared for the lays ahead. I am definitely taking requests, I have a really long list of Nightwish requests already, but I've been advised to stay within the Wacken performance for now as preparation of their heavier stuff.
Tuomas makes music to tell something he writes storys not songs and Floor sings this storys for the people she is very empathic. That is the reason why Nightwish is better on stage than in the studio. They need the audience. And your thinking about that this track would funktion on a pop song isn't to far away. Indeed this song is quite short and more on the fun side. So it would even be possible to play on the radio what is quite uncommon for Nightwish.
Don't just listen to the production... It's nice to watch too

I do have a very large extended family, but I don't think anyone in NZ, when you said riding, Cycles or Motorcycles? When you talked about the influence of classical music, there are two people in the band who studied classical music.
Floor studied rock singing for 4 years and at the same time classical singing for a year.
And band´s leader, mastermind behind the music, Tuomas Holopainen.
It is no wonder if you hear the influences of classical music from Tuomas' music. Tuomas started his music career at the age of 7 with a piano and at the age of 9 he started a music school (in addition to a normal school). At school he studied music history, theory, and playing the piano, clarinet, and tenor saxophone. In this school he especially learned both classical and jazz music. Tuomas himself has said in an interview that while studying piano playing, the etudes became really familiar.
So we can say that Tuomas has a strong background in classical music. And why do we call him by the nickname "Metal Mozart". There are many good songwriters, but Tuomas is clearly a composer and poet!
That makes a lot of sense. I was just saying in another comment there is definitely genius at work in the composition and production of the music. Now knowing that he has had so much exposure and training in Classical music explains a lot of the complexities.
The right conditions for Floor, is the stage!!!! After 52 performances (starts in 2002, fel immediately in love with her voice) i could say she' s a stagebeast!! Stage and studio are equaly to her. But on stage she convays so much emotion
its so impressive, the requirements for stage is so much more demanding, I'm not a professional by any description but i have had my fair share of time on stage in front of varying audiences. Not the same as in studio, but she makes it look effortless

How you experience these songs as i experienced these songs for the very first time. If I want to hear Floor or Nighwish I grab a CD ( yup I got them silly discs to play on an over 25 year old hifi pioneer sound system with a 5 disc loader that makes terrible squeeky noises when you open, load and close it but the sound is amazing. You can ask my neighbours). I want to experience you. Like all those other reactors out there. Chase Cameron, Ginger and Red, Suite Clatity, Rebecca Vocal Athlete, Julia Nixon, Tank the Tech - heck I even am subbed to a little russian masked lady called Vampy Witch that has also some same of level of amazement when they have those first time expierences. Because that's what this is all about. We never get to experience a first experience again. It is that maiden voyage you can only take once. YT-reactors record that. And we - the watchers on the Wall - get to view it. It is your first reaction - but at the same time we as watchers are looking for that same reaction that we had. The shock and awe, the wow and yes - even the tear. Never - ever for our sake adjust your experience. When you want it to run, let it go. When you want to pause, pause. I'll be sittin' here on my couch by the fire and a strong beer. Nodding in agreement - because i 've been there.

Nightwish? Sub! You wanna know what it was to be in that crowd? I can tell you, it was amazing and it is still in my top 3 concerts of my life and I have seen a lot! First two places are Queen live in Muinich 1985 and TOOL 2019 in Berlin. But this performance by Nightwish tops for example Pink Floyd live in Berlin in 1990 wich is an iconic concert but can't match up to what Nightwish did to us at that evening. I would suggest to take a look at the show-opener "Dark Chest Of Wonders". That's how you open a show at Wacken. Greets from Germany!
