- To give you an idea of some of the maintenance required at our 500-year-old home, I walked through and around Mapperton House with the Clerk of the Works here, Raymond.
Raymond has worked at Mapperton for 37 years, and arguably knows the estate in more detail than anyone else!

I am in awe of Julie & her amazing tenacity in preserving & keeping her husband's ancestral home. The Sandwich family is very fortunate to have her in their corner.
Thank you so much!
@@AmericanViscountess , and, ironically, no one eats sandwiches in the Sandwich home...or do they?
@@paxhumana2015 , if you keep watching, there's an episode where Julie and Luke make fancy hot sandwiches using the Aga vs the modern cooker (stove)
julie is there someone he is training? as his replacement in the future.
I would imagine he heads up a team?
Has Raymond created a map of all the pipes in the house? Does he have an apprentice & help to do the upkeep
I love Raymond!!!! He's so cool. What would the world do without the Raymonds' of the world. Their the ones that keep things going. I admire the knowledge, the skill and the hard work that they display. Thumbs up Raymond. Julie your home is lucky to have him!!!
I love that your ducks are best friends
I love 'Behind the Scenes' walkabouts!...Raymond is worth his weight in gold ~ and more!
Julie your tenacity is inspiring! Love to you and your beautiful family!
Also, Raymond you are a gem!!
What a star Raymond, Julie you should treat him to a haircut!
It's always rust that ruins the look of a facade.
Thank you so much for posting this. So fascinating all the upkeep!
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@AmericanViscountess , do you all ever feel like you are living a real life version of that classic, yet underrated, comedic movie that is called The Money Pit, out of curiosity?
I really love that some people are still trying to keep these old homes running for future generations, they are amazing homes but so expensive to maintain! Glad we can still visit them in person!
Might be a brilliant idea to have Raymond walk through the house and record everything that he knows. I'm certain it'd probably take hours on hours, but for your records that might be brilliant idea? Or is it already written down somewhere?
Def need to do that with Raymond!
@@AmericanViscountess did you do it? This is very important 🖖
I love hearing about the repairs & renovations. This is super interesting.
Makes my home repairs look not so bad.
Looks like your family could start apprenticing and assisting Raymond, The Clerk of the Works.... I mean what if he retires?
Putting up the Goergen part of the house probably preserved the tutor part! Amazing!
Love Raymond. I admire Julie’s energy because the level of commitment of being a steward to this estate blows my mind. I watch this channel to inspire me and I really have no reason to complain about my humble abode.
Love the ducks. So much to do. Wow. It's worth it though.
How is the stone on the house repaired or cleaned? How is that process done?
My heart goes out to you and your family for all of your repairs! It's like my parents' house! It was built in the late 1800's and things need repaired! Sometimes, I think it would be better just to bulldoze the whole thing and start over! 🙁 I hope things get better for you and your repairs! You have such an amazing heart for your history and home! We feel everything you're going through! I hope things get better for you and your family!
Does she really not know what a down spout is? She is from America, rain gutters, down spouts or pipes in Britain. It really irks me.
It might be cheaper in the long run to just scrap the whole plumbing system and do all new.
Palladian in Georgian time. The Italian dude Palladio. Yeah?
I love the creaking of the stairs when they walked down them
Raymond needed a better mic but lovely tour.
As much as I think it would be way too cool to live in one of these old British estates, the wad of dough you need just to keep a roof over your head must be enormous..
Oh wow like a never ending circle of repairs 😮
You’re adorable! So happy I found your channel🌷
😊 thank you
Great inventory of repairs. First the pipes correction and then the glass correction. Great job Julie!!!
Yes! Thank you!

It seems Julie doesn't live @ Mapperton, but pops in & out. If they've taken over I thought they lived there daily. Good luck w/all those repairs. cgzone8
What happens when estates can’t come up with money for repairs? Does it make sense to have an A list home ? I say that because there might be less expense if wasn’t A listed. Would a struggling estate be able to keep it in better repair if wasn’t A listed? I think of that chair and stool in your Great Hall room. If it’s extremely expensive to repair wouldn’t it be better to just redo it?
Lady Julie how do I find the true names, and documents of my kin, descendants, and family? Who would I need to call in the UK for help with this. My family tree is all over the place with revised documents the faces in photos will have multiple names and lives and stories. Its so hard to get excited at this point, because of this it's causing a heavy emotional strain where nothing should be. The Golden life?? The Golden Rule?? I'm human and my best is always a work into progress.. I know I will be my family's princable and I pray that my daughter and granddaughter will be allowed to take part. I need my trustee to stop in a false forced Report do to medical conditions.
Love this
Love your channel ,I'm really enjoying all the episodes, (btw)you remind me of the actress Charlotte Rampling ❤you look so much like her💖
I love the ducks! So sweet!
You have so many rain boots! I see lots of the neoprene Le Chameaus with the blue lining. Are they your favorite boots? Why do you have so many?
We all need a Raymond!
Can you introduce me to a Prince? I want to be a Princess😁
You need to cut some stuff away from the house,it takes away from the beauty of the house and like I say, power wash it!
You can't power wash an historic home like a garage entryway.
❤
can't you just power wash the stone around the rusty pipes?
Water will only corrode it more.
So interesting!!!
Glad you think so!
