Pioneering Rose remembers Scotland's international bow

Rose Reilly, a member of the Scotland team that faced England in their first ever women's international back in 1972, goes back to the venue of that historic match.
To recollect the struggles of being a female footballer in the 1970s and the challenges faced in the intervening five decades to gain recognition.
The two sides meet again on Scotland’s #FIFAWWC debut on 9 June, in Nice.

Where do I start ... I want to commend you on your determination to play Football in a society discouraging you. Even though U.E.F.A. and The English F.A. stopped the ban on Female Football, I noticed that The Scottish F.A. did not support you then. I have seen the footage of your match with England Women on that cold snowy winter day in 1972. Many Unofficial matches were played between England Women's teams and Scottish teams through the 1900s. In this first Official Match of 1972 (I was 7 then) you were the new pioneers of the re-emergence of Female Football ... for that I Salute You!.
