During the latest power outage which lasted days, I used my Ioniq 5 car to pull 1800w 120v and charge back up the DPU. We don't have solar on the house. I also used a small generator to charge at 1800w 120v, but didn't do that for long to conserve gas.
Man, thanks for sharing this! I’ll be doing my firmware updates tomorrow morning! Videos like this is exactly why I say Ecoflow is making a smart business decision working with you!! Thanks Andrew!
Thanks for all your EcoFlow videos. Over the last couple of years they have really helped me decide on my setup. I had the Delta Pro and just ordered the Ultra.
Ive never had a problem charging from 120v using the C19 port and outputting 240v, but the C19 port will also accept 240v but thats when they said AC inverter output will not work. Ive heard from several places that using the gen cord to charge from 240v using the power in/out port would allow the AC inverter output to keep working, but imo that cord should be included not sold separately. I know theres always been complications on charging b/c of the floating neutral if trying to charge from grid and power your panel.. but that shouldnt be an issue if using a gas generator tho.
Every time I charge from 120v using the C19 port and outputting 240v, AND the 240V output is connected to the transfer switch (even if all the switches are set to grid), the GFCI on the 120V outlet trips. I've heard others have this issue as well. This is true whether the 120V is coming from the grid or from my generator.
Thanks nice demonstration! One very important thing to mention Since you have many users this would be a good information to let them know. Do not attempt to do what you did if the DPU is connected to SHP. I have been trying to get some ways to connect the DPU and make it automatic so the generator starts when batteries are low and so far EF did not come up with an option. I mentioned that I wanted to do what you did and the tech told me that a customer did that and fried the DPU and not to attempt! Hopefully they will soon Because it’s disappointing not to have an auto option like the other units do. Thanks for your great video.
I don't see how that's an issue unless you mistakenly plug the Ultra into a wall outlet that the SHP is already providing power to. The other possible issue is having two Ultras connected to a SHP. That would probably create a potential issue like it did when Delta Pros are connected together.
@@TheKelleysReviews I have been trying to get a way to AC charge the DPU while connected to the SHP and after many trial I was not able too, I called the upper tech Dept at EF and they're the ones mentioning that it is not possible while connected to the SHP Go figure ? it is unpleasant issue not able to do this while connected to the SHP ? Yes you can the way you did but not DPU connected ....
please if you find otherwise let me know and or if u get the SHP call a tech before doing it or if you hear they're coming out with an auto start generator too thanks for your great video for sure it will help many
Yes with generator direct it works but will not do it automatically you need to manually start the generator and flip the breaker on the SHP. The other way I’m trying w/o SHP Is having a sub panel aside using only the 30amp outlet from SHP And when I don’t have enough sun to be able to connect the SHP on an outlet and charge when the battery reach 20% from the grid and some how it’s not operating. Let say I have a 500w load and turn on the outlet I should have 1800w in 500w out but instead it indicates way more load when doing so. From 500w load to 2400 load and 1800w in A bit confusing read out. I’m trying to have a way that to charge with the grid
Thanks, this test was badly needed. It's how most people want to use these units. It seems like this is one of the few portable units that can do that. Otherwise, I think we would need the all-in-one wall mounted units to do the same.

Great test, this is exactly how it should work. This allows a small 120v generator run a large central air. While it was outputting 2200 watts running the AC and charging at 1800, the duty cycle is probably 30%. So every hour, you may only need 600-700 watts which the 1800 input would easily cover. Very efficient hybrid system. I would like to see the test one more time though. In the first scenario, you had the output below 1800 watts, plugged in the 120v generator, got it to speed, and then turned on the AC. Your second attempt, where it seems to work, the AC is already running. I wonder if the initial surge current in your first test is what kicked the generator off as the EcoFlow doesn’t react quick enough in removing pass through.
You've got a valid point on the surge. But it's good to know how it will work both ways because in the real world people are going to be kicking on generators with all kinds of loads going.
Thank you Andrew this is the video that is what I needed the most to help me I have the ultra with 2 batteries and the big generator but thinking of the smart generator for the tech advantage. thank you very much
Sadly the smart generator does not communicate with the Ultra right now. The SG4000 generator is for the Delta pro 3 and the SG3000 generator is for the Delta 3. You're going to be better off running your bigger generator with the cable shown in this video.
Thanks for the testing! Nice work. Excellent to see that with this new feature it doesn't try to both run the current load on the power station AND charge at 1800w. Before it would try to do full passthrough charging and charge the battery at the same time which would always trip the generator from being overloaded.
@Jasonoid I am confused on this. I thought the whole point of this video was to show that you can power the house with the delta pro ultra and when the batteries start to get low you can plug your gas generator into the Ultra batteries and charge the batteries back to the max capacity while the batteries are still powering your panel and top them off, and later in the day shut off the gas generator and let the batteries continue to power the panel over night in silence. All while not having to keep unplugging the batteries just so you can charge them with the gas generator.
Hey can I ask you if you are using a soft start device on your AC unit while using the Delta Ultra Pro? Also can I ask if you can give a link to the special cord Ecoflow makes to do the 240volt chargning like you did in this video? Also what is the size of the inlet outlet that is near the floor behind your Ultra batteries that connects to your panel? Is it a 50amp rated outlet and if so are you using a 50amp breaker on your panel near your interlock? If that is correct what is the official plug style you’re using. Oh and what size is your AC unit. Ours is a 2.5 ton unit, it would appear yours is bigger than ours judging on the size of your home that is

Do you have a floating neutral on both the generators? I’m looking at setting up my system this exact way. Both my generators have bonded neutrals, in doing some research on this I’m seeing that connecting a generator with a bonded neutral to the DPU with the gen charging adapter will create a ground loop?
Great video. Was wondering if you know what generators are safe to charge with for electronic? Pure sine wave types? I'm thinking Delta Ultra need clean power.
Yeah i was on 5.0.0.25 and it kept saying up to date... yet when i got a 2nd inverter, it was stuck on 0.1.0.0 and nothing newer was found. I had to contact support and give them the serials before they would allow me to update and get to 5.0.0.49
Happy I found your video! I have a brand new unit I'm still waiting on components to get it connected into the house. But in the testing I've been able to perform so far it's passed fairly well. I do not see the Xfusion within my app yet the manual speaks of it. Wondering where it's at? I had these exact same questions about leaving both sides connected but still don't know if mine will do that yet. Other than 120v 1800watt cable. Would you be willing to share your firmware version with us please? My output watt meter wasn't reading one day while I tested against my washing machine and they pushed a firmware to me but it appears to be an odd number, now my unit doesn't seem to read low wattage below 25 watts and still no x-fusion showing. I also just received the proprietary cable you have, just can't test it yet as I'm not wired in until I get the transfer together to the house. Thanks, I'm looking forward to this particular test you've shown here.
@@TheKelleysReviews YES! Thank you so much I'm going to go look in the app but so far it always says it's up to date yet I still have no fusion showing. So I'll create a ticket and talk to them if that's still the case today. Got my wiring pulled yesterday and I'm excited to see this work.
Hi I’m interested in getting this same set up can you tell me what is the size of your central ac that you power with this Eco flow and what do you think it’s max that can power
Mine is 2 ton with a soft start added. Soft start is very important for these devices and any electrician or HVAC tech can add one to your AC unit. I know a person running a 3.5 ton AC with a Ultra.
My DPU started my 3 ton heat pump (but just barely, lights dimmed). My house was pulling about 700w and after it started the heat pump the load was around 3350w.
I wonder if that bigger generator would damage your system because it's not a pure sinewave...I'd imaging the electronics in the EcoFlow are sensitive enough they can be damaged. Also, I wonder if you can set that ecoflow smart generator to turn on automatically and charge the Ultra as you need...previously the ultra did not support the feature.
SHP2 uses the same output port I believe, so it will block you from using the bigger generator connection. In theory it should still work using the 120v wall cable. I do not have the SHP2 installed to test for compatability.
@@TheKelleysReviews I have just tested charging via the 1800W AC port in my setup, and it doesn't work :( I have 2 DPUs connected to SHP2 and have lamented the fact that I can't trickle charge them from my F150 Lightning in the event of an outage to extend the lifetime of my batteries. The only option open to me is to connect a generator inlet port to the SHP2 and charge it that way. Unfortunately the Lightning has a bonded neutral so also has complications.
I received my DPU in August. I was, at that time, able to charge with 120volts, (1800 watts), and out put over 3200 watts with out issue. I was informed by ECOFLOW, that 240 charging would not permit me to out put to a device, 110 or my 240 plug that was connected to my electrical box (safely of course). So a bit confused here. What firmware level is your DPU?
@@TheKelleysReviews Out of town for Thanksgiving. Now I really can't wait to get home. Thanks for all your videos. Love your can do anything attitude!!
I never thought this was impossible. I just got a Delta Pro 3 that I want to plug into a transfer switch to power my critical loads. Is it possible to do the same with the Delta Pro 3?
Absolutely, the SG4000 generator is designed for that exact purpose. I am testing one now and will have a video out in a couple of weeks on our main channel "The Kelley's Country Life". It's a smart generator that can start automatically and communicates with the DP3.
I don't suppose this would work with the 50 Amp hub would it? I have 2 separate DPU stacks connected to the 50amp hub, and an AC cable running to each. It's rough though, because I've had to turn off the hub anytime I want them to take a charge. Tried turning on the Fast charge on my end and am not seeing any input....just wondering if I could chalk that up to the poor internet connectivity they have where they are :/
The hub uses the input/output port, so sadly that rules out using the larger 30 amp charging cord. However I am not sure if you can use the 120v wall plug WHILE two are connected together. I know when I had two Delta Pro units I could not charge while they were connected together. Something about a nuetral or ground loop situation occurs. I'd suggest you reach out to EcoFlows tech department for that question. Make sure you have updated the phone app, the Ultras Wifi update is current AND the firmware for the ultra itself. This did not work for me until I discovered there was two firmware updates in my phone app for the Ultra.
I heard there would be issues trying to run a subpanel in your house and charging from grid (b/c of floating neutral ) Which is why I am trying to get more solar panels... but another option is to get an isolation transformer or a EG4 chargeverter to input into the DC input ports. I have a 50A hub but havent finishing wiring my generator inlet yet. So i havent been able to test it out. But also wanted to wait for the solar panels i ordered to get here first.
So this is a bit weird. In other comments you mention that you upgraded to firmware 5.0.0.25 to get this work. However, I got this working as well, but the app says I'm still on firmware 0.1.0.0. [And 2.0.2.4 for Wi-Fi.] The app also says I'm up-to-date. Anyone else stuck on old firmware? Given that I just got it and it's working, I wonder if the firmware is newer but it's a reporting issue?
The low cost high frequency, transformerless inverter design that's used in these battery generator units can not only damage, your appliances or EV, it can set your appliances or EV on fire. The reason for this is that these units don't have an output transformer to provide galvanic isolation between its DC boost stage and its AC output. So during a catastrophic failure of its H-Bridge circuit, it can pass high amperage DC current straight through to you appliances or onboard EV charger, causing damage. This is why no reputable American inverter manufacturer, uses high frequency, transformerless inverter tech.
During the latest power outage which lasted days, I used my Ioniq 5 car to pull 1800w 120v and charge back up the DPU. We don't have solar on the house. I also used a small generator to charge at 1800w 120v, but didn't do that for long to conserve gas.
Perfect. That's what I want to do as well.

I also just received the proprietary cable you have, just can't test it yet as I'm not wired in until I get the transfer together to the house.
Thanks, I'm looking forward to this particular test you've shown here.
My version is V5.0.0.25, it appears there is a newer version as well. Don't forget to update the app also.

YES! Thank you so much I'm going to go look in the app but so far it always says it's up to date yet I still have no fusion showing.
So I'll create a ticket and talk to them if that's still the case today.
Got my wiring pulled yesterday and I'm excited to see this work.
What size breaker does the ecoflow connect to, to power you panel?
Your going to want at least a 240v 30 amp breaker.
The ac generator charging adapter isnt even listed on amazon for sale?
Not sure, but it is on ecoflows website.
how did you connect to the main panel? 50A and interlock?
Here is the video of me installing all of that ruclips.net/video/Tf7cEsdXJoU/видео.htmlsi=-Yvk6RX_JLj66jMh
Thanks
My DPU started my 3 ton heat pump (but just barely, lights dimmed). My house was pulling about 700w and after it started the heat pump the load was around 3350w.
I wonder if that bigger generator would damage your system because it's not a pure sinewave...I'd imaging the electronics in the EcoFlow are sensitive enough they can be damaged. Also, I wonder if you can set that ecoflow smart generator to turn on automatically and charge the Ultra as you need...previously the ultra did not support the feature.
I asked them before ever testing and was told no problem running it. I believe you need around 10% THD or less to be safe.
Why you just plug, ultra ac outlet cord, in a house outlet plug?
That's a inlet box for generator power, NOT an outlet.
Will this also work when plugged into the Smart Home Panel 2?
SHP2 uses the same output port I believe, so it will block you from using the bigger generator connection. In theory it should still work using the 120v wall cable. I do not have the SHP2 installed to test for compatability.
@@TheKelleysReviews I have just tested charging via the 1800W AC port in my setup, and it doesn't work :(
I have 2 DPUs connected to SHP2 and have lamented the fact that I can't trickle charge them from my F150 Lightning in the event of an outage to extend the lifetime of my batteries.
I'm currently running V5. 0.0.25 check yours.
@TheKelleysReviews Thank you!
Not sure what's going on, I know someone with a newer firmware version than mine, even though it says I am up to date.
