  • The civil engineers behind some of London’s most iconic infrastructure projects have put on their dancing shoes to show the public - young people in particular - how happy they are to be engineers and the diverse and exciting careers on offer through choosing maths and science subjects at school. Find out more about a career in civil engineering - www.ice.org.uk...
The film, commissioned by the Institution of Civil Engineers in association with Bechtel, showcases some of London’s world class infrastructure projects and the teams behind them including Crossrail, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, the Thames Barrier, London Underground, Walton Bridge, Kings Cross Station and the Hammersmith Flyover.
Director - Jevan Chowdhury, Wind & Foster
Producer - Miranda Housden, Director, ICE London
    Movement Direction - Jeanefer Jean-Charles

Just watched it together at the ICE GSNet Conference in London. Great to see how many happy engineers got involved with the project and the great locations they filmed at.

Well my 15 year old son just watched it from beginning to end and eventually said he might be an engineer. His twin sister watched it also and said she would too - if only she was better at maths. Good PR for engineering!

Very good indeed and a right way to promote engineering. My only comment would be that it is a tad too long - I would prefer to have an explanation of what each works represents when the engineers are dancing. It would have even bigger impact because novices to engineering would see what it is all about. Ok for the initiated but not too clear for the general public.

I work at the Emirates Air Line London's cable car, we have visitors from various walks of life who are curious to look at the structure ( apart from the obvious trip across the river) we recently took part in the Open House London 2014 with enormous success and receiving great feedback from the participants; architecture & engineering are fascinating subjects no reason they can't be fun too.

Not all those dancing are civil engineers I suggest, and I think I was mislead by the note. Do all civil engineers live in London ? "Happy" is a great tune but hardly original for these sorts of films. Hopefully young people watching don't click off when Pharrell Williams has done his bit. Not sure I saw a diversity of careers - ah yes, now I remember the Librarian ! For example, do I have to guess that all these projects require investigation, assessment and designs to take account of soil and rock conditions which some might say is the most exciting part ? Is this really the film I am meant to take into schools to enthuse others to enter civil engineering ?

    • @PeterWhyley

Watch it without the sound and then give a view. Much happier with Pharrell than without.

Peter Whyley if the industry is full of people with your moaning point of view in the face of an upbeat video, I'd certainly think twice about being a part of it.
