In this world there is a winner, and then there are the rest. There should be zero lifting up on anything other than success. Maybe you learn something by finishing second but you didn't win. Truth pills are hard to swallow sometimes for sure. Thanks for listening.
My local track and area started running a stock slash class (no modding to it) and it is widely the best and funnest/funny racing to watch and partake in.
My Dad told me Racing is just entertainment. Entertainment for the racers, Entertainment for the fans. The way you make a small fortune racing is to start out with a big one.
That has always been the myth that needs busting that it takes 2 million to make 1. And yes racing is surely entertainment. That is why people love watching it so much in all forms. Thanks for the comment and the support.
Good podcast so far. My suggestion: Do regionals that qualify you for the following years national championship series. The national series should be 4-5 events, so you can go to the different regions of USA. The nationals can double as one of the regionals for that region. For example, if west coast, CA, AZ, NV, etc? Is one region, the California National can have a regional class, and thats one of 3-4 regionals. This way regional racers get to see the top guys race once a year. Nationals should be capped at a sensible amount, 50-100 or so. And the rest race in the regional class. The first year you just take the top 50 (if thats the limit) from Roar nats. The following year you keep the top 50% of drivers, and the bottom 50% drop down to regional level. Then you add each regions top X drivers to nationals to replace the 50% that got dropped.
Yes this could surely work. I feel like we will see some pretty big changes over the next couple years in the America's when it comes to ROAR and how things operate. But no doubt to your point it can be better.
Well I believe if Tekno concentrated on their 1/10 platform there would be many more. It is what it is but glad your lil bro was there to experience that greatness.
RM on balancing family and racing hit home. I quit racing for a bit cuz I had a hard time finding balance.... but we back glad to see even the paid dudes get humble and talk about real shit.
Despite the "love" you profess to JQ ( evident wink ) it's amazing how close are your respective points of view, diagnostics, and forecasts about the whole RC industry. Greetings from a today's rainy but usually sunny Barcelona. Congrats !
If you are of age we encourage it. That is unless you are on the wagon. We don't want to cause you to jump off by any means. Thanks for the feedback :)
RC in America is a good example of how without a functioning governing body a sport can’t grow, because it inevitably becomes about personal short term gain, instead of long term overall gain. A governing body should have the incentive to grow the sport, as that is the only way for them to make more money. NOT have one off massive money grabs and call that a success. Consistent sustained entries and more people joining throughout the year should be the way, and no businessman will do that unless they are forced to…..by a powerful governing body. Europe is not perfect, but so far it is still mostly about making racing enjoyable and rewarding for everyone, instead of maximising income. The governing bodies are what help create that environment. Also, don’t missunderstand my point, I’m saying that with the size of the industry we have, we are underperforming as a whole. RC is awesome, but I can see how much better it could be with relatively minor changes.
Bring back the Regional races. That will support smaller tracks. Too many tracks are closing down and there’s way too many ‘big’ races where there’s no time to club race or support local tracks.
A points series would be nice, I think an east and a west, or maybe an east west north and south, and then some big championship races where they all meet up a few times a year
If you work 6 10h days a week for 50 weeks, and you make 150k. That equals 150k/3000 = 50/h. I would stop complaining. It’s a fucking good wage for something you love. This is the ”RC driver blindspot”. Try doing that for a shit wage doing something you hate. Being a pro RC racer is hard, but it isn’t hard when you compare to many other jobs normal people have
I don't think anyone was complaining about the money he makes or the top pros make. I think the conversation was more that it's not just all fun and games. It's a lot of time away from home, lots of travel, lots of work behind the scenes. The common misconception is that these guys are so lucky for getting paid to do this. And while that may be the case they have to work hard to achieve that level and still have to work extremely hard to stay relevant. You should know this more than anyone... Thanks for watching
Going to get Maifield to sign on with Beach Rc? I’ll be surprised if Maifield stays will Tekno after his contract is up. Not in a negative way, I just don’t get the vibe that this is his “retirement” team.
They get that a lot but most of these guys are just normal cool dudes that you would want to drink a beer with or sit around a campfire telling stories with. Thanks for listening.
I’m one of the five that watched this whole video.
Loved it!
Watched it for 3 hours
great interview !

Great show. First time watching, won't be my last
I like to hear RM talking about balancing family and RC, because, aren’t we all?
Yes I would say most of us who are super into the hobby or industry try and balance it. I know I have to, that is for sure. Thanks for listening.
Great interview and appreciate what you’re doing!
Thanks for the support and feedback.

Finally, a show that tells the truth.
Best podcast!!! 👍

My little brother was the only tekno wheeler at worlds, it was ‘poked’ at several times there.
Well I believe if Tekno concentrated on their 1/10 platform there would be many more. It is what it is but glad your lil bro was there to experience that greatness.
Tekno makes a damn good buggy. Heard the SCT’s are fantastic too
yes they do for sure. Their 4x4 SCT is the best on the market.

Just a heads up -- Title has a typo. "Maifiled" should be "Maifield". Really enjoyed listening to this!
Oh snap, thanks for the heads up. I will make the edit.
killer podcast!
Thank you!

Haha, I actually don't dislike JQ. But yes, I believe we have similar views on a lot of things. Just not business ;)
Ha, I raced the Blackfoot. My brothers had Kyosho Raiders.
The good ole days.
I would like to see a traveling series with like 10 to 17 races then crown a champ. Something like the supercross/motocross racing. Just a thought.
Yup or an east west series and meet in the middle a couple times per year...
Or east west north south
TrX 3 was dialed back in the 1900’s🤘😂
Awesome
This was amazing! Haha
Thanks Tim, Much love brotha.
Great Podcast!

Couldn't agree more.
The NFL entire season is all just to see who plays in the super bowl guys lol
yup lol.
worlds fastest cars is rental cars.
🤣
Bring back the Regional races. That will support smaller tracks.

Big races aren't going anywhere but yes, we definitely need to bring back a regional system. Thanks for the comment and support.
We have to stop sponsoring every single sportsmen who made a podium
DUDE SWEET
A points series would be nice, I think an east and a west, or maybe an east west north and south, and then some big championship races where they all meet up a few times a year
That sounds like it could be a great way of dividing the country up into 4ths and then having one big race to decide it all. Thanks for listening.
Roar needs to look at bmx racing. It is alot like rc, but they have a points system
I agree completely. Maybe something will pan out in the future.

Nitro pro or nothing....
.
Does anyone in here know what Ryan is running for a 2wd buggy in 2024 ?
Associated for 4wd mod, so I’d assume the same for 2wd.
@@troysawyers9781 thank you , I know he ran the associated in 2023 ,hmm doesn’t Tekno have a buggy now ?
