Glad you liked the vid. Steinhart is a really good "value" brand offering mechanical watches. Unfortunately, this watch is not very water resistant. I can't remember the spec (should be on the Steinhart site), but basically you might get away with washing your hands with it on and splashing a bit of water on it, but not much more. This chrono is fairly thick. Then I put it on the NATO strap which makes it a bit thicker. It's OK though -- I don't mind the size.
I think that is just the nature of "toys". We are always excited about them at first. How many times have I read a photo forum post where someone buys camera X and then declares "X is the only camera I've been carrying -- it's that good", and then a year later they sell it? Some toys continue to keep us excited, and others disappoint, OR our taste changes. Nothing about the watch has disappointed me except for the strap that was delivered with it.
Thanks for the great and detailed review! I saw this watch at my AD and had a good feel of it, been dreaming of it for the past few days, but I may be thinking twice after I heard your personal take on the watch! :) Looking forward to more of your videos!
Hello Mike. Great Vid! I have been looking for an IWC-style watch for a long time and I just discovered Steinhart today... this is AMAZING. Could you please tell me if this watch is water resistant? how many meters/feet? Thank you so much. Oh, and about the size... this one is 44mm right? I have a Breitling avenger thats supposed to be 45mm and i think its quite chunky... do you think the 47mm version of this watch might be "too much"? Thanks a lot! :)
Tough question. The Super Combat is probably tougher and certainly more water-resistant. It doesn't have a day/date, though, and the Steinhart does. If you ever need to time anything, the chrono is obviously useful on the Steinhart. Tough question. I think you need both :-)
hey mike, I just found out you review watches too and have a great taste! a man who shoots film and is into mechanical watches like me , oh boy 2 in one channel the connivence.a side note, all though these ETA valjoux 7750 movements are nice 21+ jewels in movement , sweeping seconds hand , they are mass produced and can be found on a ton of watch makers , so in short it's the housing and the styling and the dials that make the difference in this watch. The lumination is superb too...
Thanks for your comment. I hope I don't come off too negative about the watch's functionality and quality. My commentary is more about its style, and whether it holds up to my decision to go with a NATO strap. I sometimes think I should try it on a khaki NATO and see if I like it better that way. All that being said, I still gladly wear the watch every couple of weeks. In my experience it is very accurate (but of course that is the movement, not the watch itself).
(continued) The Damasko comment was probably poorly edited by yours truly. I cut out a pretty good chunk of video because I was hemming and hawing. I think it's like this: I order the Steinhart and am excited. I open it and am a bit disappointed about the strap (and only that). I change the strap and like the look. Over time, I decide that maybe the "vintage lume" doesn't work. Maybe I'd like white lume. Steinhart has some options, but what else is there? Oh, look at that Damasko :-)
(continued 2) Damasko has some interesting tech in their watches. I'd say it's more me learning about, and being intrigued by, Damasko than me disliking the Steinhart so much I'd leave the brand. The Steinhart has no intrinsic quality issues, and I might well replace this one with another of theirs, if I replace it at all. Gosh, perhaps I doth protest too much! :-D
Steinhart doesn't offer this in manual wind. If you want the coolest manual wind chrono ever, save your pennies and get an older Omega Speedmaster manual wind. Relatively expensive, but it is the uber-chrono and classic. I keep wanting to get one, but never get around to it, and would have to sell some other watches to do it.
also unfortunately most mechanical entry level luxury watches don't have their own in house made movement, which is not always bad.. check out the seagull double tourbillon cool watch

Hi Mike. I am looking at purchasing this watch but curious what tools I need to change out the strap. Is it a difficult process? Not really into the leather strap it comes with. Thanks.
You need a watch band/bracelet tool. You could probably get by misusing a very small screwdriver, but the specific tool is what you want because it has a notch to manipulate the spring-loaded rod that holds the band. They aren't expensive. Search Amazon or eBay.
Thanks for the update (finally...lol). There`s a disappointment in your voice which is born out by your lack of use which must be more than just the strap issue, On the original video you sounded more enthused for the watch than now, you also mentioned contemplating selling it to get a Damasko. I had not come across Steinhart watches before your original video so thanks for the "intro."

Well, I have never liked watches so much as you seem to do, but I have to say this one has something. Beautiful machine. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Mike for the updated review. She's a real beauty! I'm thinking of saving up for a Damasko DC56

I see what you mean about the lume. I'd probably get the 47mm version, partly because I like bigger watches, partly for the white lume.

very nice and beautiful watch.
Man, this is just awesome! What a hot combo... love the all-black look. Watch hardware is PVD and DLC is better than PVD, FYI. :)

I think my wrist is around 7.5" in circumference, or a little over.

That's probably the one I'd buy if I were in the market.

The water resistance is very poor, only 5 ATM, no swimming or showering..
Caro mike mi dispiace ma non parlo inglese vorrei comprare uno steinhart crono dlc vintage però il tuo mi sembra diverso da quello che vedo sul sito ufficiale specialmente la corona tu cosa ne pensi?grazie
Thank you very much mate! Very helpful VID! :)

+Mike Thomas I figured! Thank you!!
Hi mike, excelent review. If you want to sell it i'd be willing to buy it for a good price, pls let me know.
Hehe. Well, you're better off not caring about watches. It's an expensive hobby. Luckily it is not a full-time obsession for me!
love it and stunning
Do you know if they offer this in manual wind? I like the chrono feature but really looking for something with a manual wind...
Спасибо за обзор! Интересные часы!
Very nice watch, but i wish they made them in 47mm or 50 mm. 44 is to small ;)
Christian Bjørnsen they do make a 47.
Haha, niether parlo italiano! Ma sì, la corona sembra un po 'diverso, ma il resto l'orologio sembra la stessa.
