Here are my thoughts on Pete Crow-Armstrong:
PCA is one of the most coveted prospects in all of the game, and it’s easy to see why. He’s got plus-plus defense and speed and he crushed Double and Triple-A this year (.876 OPS). But, he struck out a lot, 24% in Double-A and 29.7% in Triple-A. Also, his BABIP was high at .351 and .368 (average is around .300) which points to some luck going his way. One of the more encouraging signs was his power, although he may be selling out for that power which is creating more strikeouts. He clearly has a great feel for the strike zone, as he didn’t chase much at all and swung at everything that was in the zone. I wonder if he’s actually waiting too long on pitches, and as a result not catching up to them if they actually are in the zone. There’s a super high floor with PCA, but there are some clear warning signs that he may never be an above average bat. Even if that’s the case, he should be an everyday player just with the speed and glove.
