❤️I appreciate that you two take the time to understand and discuss the meaning of the song. There are always so many facets to pay attention to in a Rush song. I think you got it right by focussing on the lyrics of this one. Love your sincere and passionate reviews!
I cannot speak for the boys in Rush, but seeing that they are and were humble, quiet, and appreciative men, the conclusion you both came to, and your dignified response was most refreshing. Thank you for using your platform in such a thoughtful and positive way!!!
What an enjoyable reaction. I gotta comment on this song. It came out around 1995. At that point, I was a middle-aged gay man who had been living with his partner for 15 years. I was an old-time Rush fan, and my partner was more into classical music than rock and humored my Rush obsession. I had bought the new CD and was blasting it in the living room so I could hear it in the kitchen where I was cooking dinner. He was walking through the living room as this song started playing. He picked up on the lyrics (I wasn't paying attention), came into the kitchen, and said "Is this Rush's tribute to gay pride?" I had to replay the song. At that time, large musical groups didn't have songs with positive LGBT language. Neil Peart and Rush didn't think anything of it, but they were ahead of curve. My partner gained a great appreciation for Rush after that, and I just loved them even more. My partner has since passed away, but when I hear this song, I remember that moment and feel good. Thanks for reacting to it.
Thank you for reacting to Nobody's Hero by RUSH! I've loved this song since day one. The lyrics are powerful and awesome and accompanied with their power house music! Another great RUSH song to check out is the Manhattan Project. It tells the story of the first atomic bomb brilliantly! Cheers from Canada!🍻🇨🇦
This whole album/counterparts was off the hinges. 98.7 WLLZ in Detroit premiered it which was back in 1993 and I was totally blown away. This when Rush came full cycle and went back to basics and turned up the amps.
Amen. I teach college classes, and I'm in awe of some of the things my students deal with and still manage to get their education. Those are real survivors, real heroes.
Thanks for the Rush deep dive and honest reaction. The Counterparts album has a very different, but cool vibe. Check out "Cold Fire", a wickedly realistic "love song".
i never don't cry when i hear this song. it got me once again just now. im 56 years old and have heard this song a million times over the last 30 years...and it got me again!
@@ginamarandino6451 I agree with ya but have one caveat to that: I REALLY like the visuals that are presented with the live performance of The Garden (I saw them on that tour in Chicago). However, IMHO, Geddy's voice on the studio version is much better and clearer as far as being able to understand the lyrics. If there was a way to dub the studio version onto the video of the live version I think it would be a much more poignant video in terms of what the lyrics represent and what the live visuals convey. The Garden is a magnificent song both lyrically and musically....and is the PERFECT ending to what turned out to be Rush's final album at the end of their long and very illustrious career. I've been fortunate enough to see them in venues all over the US since the 80's, to include Red Rocks and The Gorge Amphitheater as well as one of their final shows (in Portland, OR). I truly miss those guys. RIP Neil Peart.
@@michaeldover wow! You got to see them at Red rocks I'm very jealous! I saw them on every tour from counterparts onward some more than once, and loved every single show
I Have So many Friends who are teachers, health care workers, first responder's Etc. That I'm gonna share this video with..Thanks for posting guys, and keep up the great work!!! More Van Halen ( just sayin) ✌️&❤ 🤘🤘
Greatest lyrics and music Greatest band of all time very thought provoking relatable inspirational all 3 are virtuosos on their instruments try half the world driven big money mission marathon hemispheres a Farwell to kings witch hunt vital signs body electric any Rush is good Rush!!!
Great reaction y’all! People don’t do this song enough!! The 1st verse is about a gay friend of Neil’s who passed away. The 2nd verse is about the sister of a friend of Neil’s from his hometown who was murdered by a serial killer. He considered those people “Hero’s” in his world more than any movie star or athlete! Just humble and down to earth guys!! Be well and God bless… from Texas!!
Orchestra in 'Nobody's Hero' conducted by the late, great Michael Kamen, whose long list of credits include Pink Floyd, Aerosmith, Eric Clapton, Guns N' Roses, Metallica...
Is the pride of purpose in the unrewarding job. Love that line has so much meaning to a lot of people like me working the grind and really never getting any encouragement for a job well done ❤
I love this song and the Counterparts album. I have every Rush album and of all the late 80's and 90's records this is my favourite album. Being an Australian from a regional centre called Wagga Wagga I am very fortunate having seen Rush in concert twice, in 1990 and 1994 at the Montreal forum, as they never came to Australia.
not many songs can make me cry but this is one of those songs. two other that have the same effect on me is Hero Of War by Rise Against, and Flanders Fields by Sabaton.
This is one of my favorite songs, not only so meaningful, but just a gorgeous musical arrangement that brings out that aching yearning of the average person going through life.
I love this band! Been a fan since I was 15.I got to see them live twice. Some fans didn’t like slower Rush. I therefore did not. Neil was a poet.Greatest band ever!
Lyrically speaking there's none better than Neil Peart. What separates Rush from most bands (besides the musicianship) is that lyrically they have tackled a multitude of topics that are relevant today. Topics most wouldn't talk about but are important to understand are a problem with humanity, society and our planet. A song like "The Pass" is an obscure song even to most Rush fans but lyrically the topic (suicide) hits home.
To this day this remains one of my all time favorite songs. The message is beyond powerful and will never not be important. Same with Closer to the Heart.
While you're on a rush roll how about one of their epics like Fountains of Lamneth. Its kind of like a cross between Xanadu and 2112 with Geddies best vocals imo.
Ummm it's hard to jump from a song that deals with very well-grounded, deep human emotions, to a song they were so fucked up while writing even They don't know what the hell it's about!
The first verse deals with the AIDS-related death of a gay man named Ellis Booth, a friend of Neil Peart when Peart lived in London. After the chorus, the second verse speaks of a girl who was murdered in Peart's hometown, Port Dalhousie and was the daughter of a family friend, as remembered by Peart in Far and Wide: Bring That Horizon to Me! The girl is rumoured to have been Kristen French, one of Paul Bernardo's victims.[2] Hero: On Equal Protection, Homosexuality, and National Security published in The George Washington Law Review.[3]

You got it! Unsung, unheralded heroS; are the hero’s that actually matter. Athletes playing a game, actors playing a role, or the “ beautiful” selling their faces, mere distractions pulling us away from looking after one another. Parents, mentors, the Good Samaritan, people just being good and decent to their fellow man. If everyone just lived that even a little, the world would be a much better place. Set aside status, class, race, religion, orientation, politics etc. and just had the slightest concern for each other, who knows?
Welcome to the wonderful world of Rush. These guys set the bar so hih no one could get close in my opinion. There are so many beautiful hidden gems to discover.I suggest these two are probably 2 of their finest undiscovered tracks The gorgeous boys groove of Here Again Geddys voice has bever sounded better and the mean menacing magnificent The Necromancer Alex's guitar is off the scale here on this
That’s the first time that I’ve heard it , awesome . I grew up listening to Rush when it first came out in the 70’s and 80,S . Love you guys, great channel.
When I heard that Neil was gone I felt a shadow cross my heart.

Neil Peart, not just one of the greatest drummers that ever lived, but a poet and a philosopher, a great loss. R.I.P.
Bravo! A true Renaissance man.

More like the anti-love song. ;)
Agree, about Cold Fire. Possibly the best lyrics ever written.
"The flame at the heart of a pawnbrokers diamond, is a cold fire."

But you have to do it live from the clockwork Angels tour

Nice thoughts about your own questions. Unfortunately, they don't correspond to the message in this song at all.
