You kids failed to recognize the Intro that Rush did here was a bit of The Rolling Stones "Paint it Black".
45 minutes to wash + 45 minutes to dry = 90 minute Rush set.
R.I.P. NEIL PEART,one of the Best Drummers in Rock History !!!
He and Carl Palmer! Seriously
RIP. Was never a fan of the drums he used on the Vapor Trails tour. Well I’ve really like DW drums anyway, so yeah. They don’t even sound like drums they sound like timbales and they are very boingy, which is not what I want in terms of tone.
The Professor!
This was a huge benefit for the city of Toronto that was actually put on by the Rolling Stones when the city was hit by Sars The Stones were the last act hence the Painted Black tribute at the start of the song. I saw an interview with Neil Peart that at this concert just before they were going on Charlie Watts the drummer from the Stones came up to Neil and introduced himself and then said I am going to be watching you! One of your influencers watching you from the side of the stage.
The dryers are a bit of a joke as Geddy starting running his sound differently and did not need a stack of amps behind him. Alex still keep his so they used dryers to balance out the stage amongst other things. They would have tee shirts in them that would be tossed out to the crowd. Other things they used were rotisserie with roasting chickens, vending and popcorn machines. 😃
I would suggest reacting to Dinner with Rush. It is later in their career and they are having dinner with a whole lot of wine and the jokes keep on coming. You will see how close even after 40 years of working together they were.
Also, I would suggest watching Rush Beyond the Lighted Stage.
A fabulous documentary on how they got started and it will give a real insight into not only them but how the music industry worked back then Cheers
Got to wash your undies on tour!
The choice of washing machines was a sarcastic response to one critic who said he’d rather watch laundry then listen to a Rush concert. So…Rush obliged.
Sars1 spread to N America? I thought it kept contained to ASIA only! (THAT virus was far WORSE than what we just got 2 years ago! )
The dryers had concert shirts in them that the band would throw into the audience. Genius.
The shirts would say “from dryer #1” and “from dryer #2”
@@billymaus6287 - Friggin’ awesome.
I was at the SARS concert here in Toronto Canada! It was mind blowing! 🎼🎶🎵🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Gosh! I loved watching this great song with you guys! So much fun!
How good is Rush? The effortlessly switching from heavy rock to reggae and back a couple of times without batting an eyelid... That's how good!
Yes. This is correct. Rush can do whatever they want. 🤷♂️👍
2112 proves it!
That was agreat show had the pleasure of being there live. Great line-up Rush, ACDC and the Stones performed that day. The "Molson Canadian Rocks for Toronto" was a benefit rock concert that was held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada back in 2003. It was also known as "Toronto Rocks", "Stars 4 SARS", "SARSStock", "SARSfest" and "SARS-a-palooza". You can watch the whole live show on You Tube I beleive.
Another thing that makes this band simply the best, is that they never have taken themselves too seriously, the consistently pushed themselves artistically, even if it meant losing some fans. They put their music in front of everyone... That says alot about the integrity in their music. It's definitely one reason they have the loyal following they have. You will never meet a better group of people than their fans. We are all pretty amazing people. Lol
Cheers! Dinner with RUSH is one of my favorite videos of these guys. You watch them through the years and follow them, they're having a blast every single time they play together. Again cheers from a 54 year old Canadian RUSH fan. Be safe
@@paulgreenhalgh1647 - Utterly impossible not to love Geddy, Alex and Neil.
its a Home concert that's when you do your laundry when you're at home.
There's a clip on youtube of Charlie Watts meeting Neil Peart before Rush went on. Neil was surprised & delighted with this & recalled that Charlie said to him "I'm going to watch you". Charlie must have been delighted with Rush's intro version of 'Paint it Black".
They aren't showing off, they're RUSH doing what they dooz. Three virtuosos having a ball.
Re: Dryers. At one point, because he was playing all the keyboard, foot pedals along with the bass, Geddy decided to go though the house with his sound and got rid of the his giant amp stack and speakers. Geddy, as a joke had the crew put the dryers behind him as a joke and to balance the stage. If you watch enough footage, tool you'll see all sorts of odd things there. Dryers, popcorn machines, rotisserie chicken ovens. The stage hands can be seen dressed up in all sorts of costumes coming out to do laundry, baste the chickens etc...
It became a huge joke between the band and fans to see what was next.
In other videos you might even see Alex Lifeson's Barbie collection of groupie fans all lined up on the stage in front of him.
During their Time Machine tour, I think that Geddy Lee had popcorn machines when they played in West Palm Beach. My friends and I seen RUSH there. They rocked the house for 3 and half hours that night!
Foot pedal, not foot peddle.
@@module79l28 Thanks, Google. Voice translate does she weird things sometimes.
@@revdmcspumcsb 😂 Been their (there), Don (Done) that.... 😏 Could be my *New Yawker* accent! 😁🐰
@@MrTech226 - You saw Rush. Saw.
They opened the song with a snippet of the Rolling Stones' Paint It Black. In fact, Rush released an entire EP of cover songs called Feedback. There are some live videos of the covers on RUclips.
best musicians on the planet. REST EASY PROFESSOR
The smiles on your face watching says it all...
Fantastic reaction!
Watching Rush makes me sad and happy at the same time. Hard to explain
Yet, so easy to understand.
The musician’s musicians
A 3 piece band with all that sound!!!
they actually did throw the laundry into the crowd at one concert..it was Rush T shirts
That’s was SarsStock 2003 in Toronto at Downsview Park with 100,000 in attendance. AC/DC The Rolling Stones and of course Rush.
Honestly this isn't Rush showing off. This is Rush putting on a show !
There ability to produce their album sound during a live show is extraordinary. Super super talented
I've been a fan of Rush since the mid 70s. The GOAT of Canadian bands
Actually...🤔...you are correct! In their concert, there are concert t-shirts in the dryers and at some point during the performance they would get them out and throw them out to the audience. 😄 Thank you for another wonderful Rush reaction, this is actually my favorite Rush song! 👏👍
The Stones lead in is the ultimate bait!
That is Rush they can do what they want - sums it up
Washer and dryer on stage? Wait until you see a giant chicken come on stage to baste the chickens on the rotisserie while Rush performs. These guys were/are maestros, but never stopped having fun while performing.
And the funny videos with Paul Rudd, Jason Segel and Jerry Stiller.
Wasn't expecting the Paint it Black by The Rolling Stones cover intro that was pretty dope. They put out a powerful sound for a three man band
The most amusing concept about the washer and dryers, is when a roadie, while the group is playing, either pretends, or actually takes out the clothes in the dryer, add more from the washer, and then puts more in the washer. Just too funny, and they act oblivious to it all.
I know that this is a old video but I just came across it. They used the washer and dryer as a metronome. In some tours they were microphoned.
Hey guys just discovered your site love you I'm a fan now. And of course Rush brought me here
Freedom of music ‘“RUSH RUSH AND MORE RUSH !!!
Awesomw reaction!! Rush is Rush!!! Masters at their craft!!
The Sars concert where the Stones were the apparent headliner but were sidestepped by the hometown band RUSH and crushed by ACDC!!!!
Such an awesome couple! Love the humor and reactions. More please 🙏
The washers were there just to take up space cause ALEX always had the speaker’s behind him That is a fact !!
Thanks for the video RIP Neil Peart. Young kids now have no idea of how much radio was apart of our lives back in the 60's and 70's. Rush best Canadian rock band ever. Lyrically, the song is a lament on the change of FM radio from free-form to commercial formats during the late 1970s. The Toronto-based station CFNY-FM-which had not abandoned free-form programming-is cited as an inspiration for the song.
Look at all those people. My God 😮😮🔥🔥
The washing machines are a tribute to their first shows playing in laundry mats!
They’ve had them at every major show show over 30 years!
Shoes in the dryer!! Brilliant! LMAO
The washmachines are there to take the eyes off of Alexs giant stack of amps.. its like window dressing
And then there was the tour where instead of washing machines, they had racks of rotisserie chickens roasting throughout the gig.
Gotta love the Rolling Stone’s beginning
Rush was my first concert. the washer dryer…It’s actually on mic 🎤 to keep time and they have clean clothes for next show! So not hair band guys lol they are masters of the craft
Geddy Lee played keyboards and guitar as well best ever of all time !!!
I was at this concert. Fun times.
This was a benefit concert called SARStock.
It's truly amazing to see unity and joy.
Times sure have changed.
During the chorus, Neil was playing a glockenspiel. A xylophone uses wooden blocks, a glockenspiel uses metal blocks. Of course it was electronic, but he programmed it to produce the glockenspiel sound.
From now on I'm going to sit in front of my dryer writing beats.
Best intro ever!!
You really want to see how Rush can "do anything" - listen to the song Rivendell from the Fly By Night LP.
I am watching this 1 Tuesday away
have to listen to studio version.
Only at a Rush show can you see the band doing their laundry...
Xylophone is what he was playing
great reaction !!!!!
You two have to react to "Dinner with RUSH!! Love your RUSH reactions!! Cheers!
PERFRCT LEAD IN COVER!!!!
YESSSSSSSSSS
RUSH RUSH RUSH
MASTERS
Alex Lifeson has fun with The Trailer Park Boys too.
The "Kicks Drum Dryer"
Geddy is great. Unfortunately his mother passed away this year.
rip Neil Peart 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭🤘🤘🤘🤘♥️♥️
I miss this band.
Paint it black was the intro. Js.
"Rush can basically do what they want"
Remember that, when Rush throws in some rap 10 years after this song. And Rush fans need to stop complaining; stop being so purist.
I was at this concert
🎸🥁🎸
They're not on tour theyre in Toronto
As we all know, Alex is the funny man in the band. You both should look at Rush accepting their Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame award..... Alex's acceptance speech is absolutely funny, and him all the way ! I recommend you do a reaction to it.
🐐🐐🐐
Wind chimes and chimes
That solo reminds me of some of Dimebags solos on Vulgar Display.
YOU WILL NEVER DROWN!! Sorry, no disrespect Susie
I have a great request for you to check out the runaways features a very young Lita Ford and Joan Jett the song is I love playing with fire both were under 18
Miss the days when not one cell phone was held in the air.
I love bands that sound this good live. Why haven’t you both gone back to EL&P. Only once, I’ve seen them on your gig. They seemed to impress you.
check out michel camilo song on fire...the drummer is literally on fire lol best drummer on the planet
They wash tshirts and throw them in the crowd
its very hot on stage and they needed fresh clothes in between sets sooo they had washer and dryer left 1 is dryer right one is washers... real story
Yeah, sure, buddy.
Rage... Black in mind... Please
Those transitions are live... It's way better on the album
he is very clever
RIP Professor
7:21
Travis: "do you see him playing that... what do you call it again?"
Suzi: "Xylophone?"
Actually, that was an electronic marimba but the difference between a xylophone and a marimba is really just the range of the tonality. The xylophone is all the high end right hand treble clef of the piano keyboard while the marimba is the full range from bass to treble on the same keyboard. But they are essentially the same instrument.
Geddy Lee added those washers and dryers as a joke to balance out the stage because of the huge amplifier stack that Lifeson toured with.
No, he did it because he moved to having his bass DI instead of through amps and cabs, this left a big hole behind him on stage so he started with domestic appliances as a joke to fill the gap.
@@RushfanUK ..... you just stated what I stated except for an additional note on his DI setup. What is the point of the "no" or the response.
As incredibly talented and successful as this band became, they always stayed three nice boys; gentlemen. And yes, it’s just another reason why we love them. Solid, loyal people, an incredible four+ decade friendship among the three and I can promise, Geddy and Alex, if they ever play again, will never call or bill themselves as Rush. EVER!
I just said the same thing about Geddy and Alex playing also. As much as I would love to see them perform together again, I'm not sure I could emotionally handle them playing any Rush songs ... I can't imagine what that would do for them. But yes totally agree with your statement. Rush definitely ended with Neil's passing. Sniff sniff
I absolutely adore the fact that Rush was NEVER "cool". Cool changes from minute to minute. They just busted in with gigantic musicianship, left it at that, and said "Accept it or not. You will be poorer if you do not."
And RIP Neil
Great reaction! Those dryers actually worked (no heat of course) and they were full of balls of Rush t-shirts!! At the end of the show Alex and Geddy would throw them into the crowd!!! These 3 guys never lost sense of their family roots or their country!! They make me proud to be Canadian 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦😁😁
Eh?
Greatest 3 Man Band EVER! The Holy Trinity! MASTERS OF THEIR CRAFT! Neil Peart "The Professor" greatest drummer to ever hold a pair of sticks! Check out his solo "Live In Frankfurt."
Neil is the primary lyric writer for RUSH as well. This song came about while he driving & seeing the beautiful lights of the city while listening to the radio.
There is a Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City which has a Geddy Lee exhibit in it. Geddy is a huge baseball fan and he bought a collection of 400 baseballs that were autographed by Negro League players and he donated them to the museum. A very cool gesture, indeed. He also owns a baseball that is signed by all of the modern day MLB players with 3,000 hits or more. As far as Rush being able to do whatever they want musically, check out the song 2112. It is long, but it shows they can do whatever they want musically. The song covers the gamut from harsh hard rock to mellow acoustic vibes. It's brilliant.
Geddy Lee had things like Washers/Dryers or things like literal rotisserie ovens on his side to fill up the stage because of the towers of speakers that Alex used...
yeah he would do that and have like vending machines and all kinds of fun stuff. So many focus on how technical their music is and sometimes forget how Rush's sense of humor was just as important as their music..
@@ryant3600 yea, I was lucky, I got to see them live for their Snakes and Arrows tour ( for my show they played all of hemispheres for the first time since the original tour) and the Time Machine tour.... they amount of fun that I had will never be beat by any other band. For anyone who hasn't seen it, look up South Park RUSH skit it is short but great and seeing it live had me laughing my ass off
@@JamesWilliams-yc3yd I took my then 13-year old son and one of his friends to the R30 tour and both my son and his friend have never let me forget how much they appreciate having had the privilege to see this legendary, classic rock band perform.
@@johnmrog - Nice going, John!
Sad to ley you know that Geddy Lee's mom, Mary Weinrib passed away in July. She was a very strong person and important element of Geddy's life- without her there would have been no Rush!!
Strong? She survived the Holocaust! She was in Auschwitz and Belsen!
...and it was her pronunciation of his name "Garry" that gave us Geddy
Hit like before I watched it.... It's Rush so it's awesome
They didn't just use a washing machine on stage. they've also had popcorn machine and a chicken rotesserie.
My friend(who is a big Stones fan)couldn’t get over them playing that little snippet of ‘Paint it Black’ and we looked at each other and thought the same thing: “They do it BETTER than the Stones with only three people!”😆🤘🖖✌️🥁🎸🎹🎤
What always amazes me about rush is there are only 3 band members and they sound like that... Incredible
There are so many rock bands that have an aggressive or miserable image on stage, but rush are always smiling and enjoying themselves even when the subject is serious. This is what lifts people's spirit and this is why rush stand out and are so popular.
RUSH is probably 1 of the most under rated bands. Also as musicians. They're all masters of their instruments. And Neil Peart is Drum God. Never has or will be anybody better. RIP NEIL PEART.
Can you imagine how much peace we would have in the world if we could negotiate through music 🤔😉
Wait, you mean they DIDN'T put shoes in the dryers?! You just shattered my illusion of integrity!
