- This is a two year hunt for a buck that I had been keeping an eye on in one of the areas we hunt. All day sits, jumping from one spot to another, playing the wind and staying away for the core areas were key in the end.
Awesome buck, great shot, well deserved harvest, man that is a beast of a buck, great dedication to your quarry.
Absolutely a fantastic buck! Thank you for sharing everything you did, all your insights, gut level hunches, etc., that added up to your success. Congratulations!
Thanks! Appreciate the comments!
When I lived in Montana, I hunted up by the Canadian border. I used a pair of large mule deer antlers to rattle with. Sound seemed to carry better. They were amazing !!!
You waited TWICE as long as I would have!!!!
I agree with the big antlers. Sound does carry further from my experience.
Nice he's big. Brother congratulations on your harvest. Of him. 😃🦌🙏
That’s a beautiful deer but that clip of the hawk trying to get the mallards and they dodged it at point blank was amazing
@@GreenwoodWeddy appreciate that! I thought it was pretty fortunate to get that on video 😊
Congratulations! Buck of a lifetime!
One of my favourite hunts all time! Thanks for watching!
Congrats Buddy! Maturity counts more than score and that deer is MATURE!
Thanks man! Totally agree. Hard to beat the feeling of taking a fully mature Whitetail buck. One of the smartest animals anywhere.
Did you get out at all?
Holy smokes!! Great deer. I too have been able to follow some bucks over the years and have been fortunate enough to take a few. It's not easy figuring them out and being in the right place at the right time, but you have the added challenge of filming. Great work and an amazing deer. Congrats.
Thanks Gary!
When I look at them, I don’t care what they score. Even when they’re walking alive, all I imagine is back straps on a skewer 😄. Congrats. Beautiful hunt
Deer of a lifetime right there, congratulations!
Thanks!
great video great hunt been following your videos .look forward next hunt. bring on the ice fishing videos now you do a great job. R.T. mich.
Thanks Roy! Few more whitetails videos then we’ll get to the hard water fishing!
Like your style mate! That's what we hunt for right there!
Well done......whatta whitetail!!! Great buck!!
Thanks!
Beautiful story! Congratulations, hard work pays off
what a nice drop tine ! and about the shot , that was a perfect one ! well done my friend !
One of the better deer hunting videos I’ve seen in a while. That is sweet that you found his shed from the year before you killed him. Also enjoyed how you emphasized how much you did not care about the score of the deer. It’s the history you had with that deer that made the hunt. Too many guys place too much emphasis on what a deer scores. Also, he was still really nice! Great job.
Really appreciate the kind words! It was as good a feeling to take that deer as any I’ve ever taken.
What a great video and incredible buck!!! Great story !!! You’ll remember that deer forever!!!! Congrats!!!
Thanks Brandon! Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow amazing buck! Love the reaction after the shot, hard to beat that feeling.
Thanks Chris! It was a great feeling!
Nice buck nice hunt that's how I hunt it's not always about the score it's about the experience
Awesome buck the big boys are rolling hard !!
Awesome buck, awesome video and one awesome hunting area man 👍
Congrats
Definitely subscribing to your channel
Thanks for the great feed back!
Right on man! That’s gotta feel great. I spent a week straight trying to get a nice buck, but came home tag unfilled. Better luck next year hopefully
Thanks for watching! It was a great feeling for sure. To hunt one specific buck and have it workout is pretty special.
It's tough when you have your heart set on a big deer. If you spent a full week out there that's a good effort. Not tagging out though doesn't mean an unsuccessful hunt. Being out and enjoying the chase along with the outdoors is the real reason we do what we do right?!
@@djboutdoors6473 And top of all that to get it on camera! Pretty cool man. You're absolutely right. Heart was racing a few times while I was out there, but just didn't get the opportunities I wanted. Still an awesome experience to look back at though!
Awesome buck man...that's granddad rite there👍👌
Thanks! He was oldest deer around that I knew about. Those are the ones we want to target each year. Very happy to get him
Great video! Great buck congratulations!!
Thanks Darren!
Beautiful buck great video I do not normally horn hunt but if it's got a nice set definitely will try to knock em down
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it
Great story n a nice buck. Just before your shot when he was stepping left from under the tree it looked like he was favoring his left font leg. Battle scarred.
I had the same thought but his steps after seemed to be ok and I didn’t see any bruising on him when I skinned him out. It would make sense tho if he was injured a bit that he’d be going for water.
Great job, thanks for sharing the lead up story too.
Thanks Jody!
Watched both videos, so nice to see big bucks for both of you. Love the rolling land and trees. I’m guessing Northern Alberta?? Would love to have the opportunity to hurt some of that land one day.
Northern Alberta is right Garry! Thanks for watching!
Is fantastic hunt on an old monarch
Great Persistence! It would be great if you could mount his sheds from last year on another buck cape and put them next to each other.
I’ve actually thought about doing that but I have mixed feelings about the same buck on the wall twice. Appreciate the idea though!
Awesome deer. I can't believe you wear camo during gun hunting though. No blaze orange required at all?
There are no regulations in regards to color of clothing in Alberta. That being said though, if I was hunting in an area I knew there were quite a few other hunters I definitely would. But we hunt mostly private land during whitetail season where we have exclusive permission so other hunters is not something we have to worry about. I also usually sit from dark to dark most days so walking into and out from stands is done well outside legal shooting hours as well.
That's a great buck! And a neat story on how it all came to be. What caliber rifle were you using? And what bullet? You put him right down!
Glad you enjoyed the video! I was using 7mm Mag, 140 grain bullet. Hit him right in front of shoulder.
whats on the hitlist this fall ?
Nice buck
Thanks Jennifer!
Can't say enough about this video, incredible! And what an amazing buck and the story behind it is so well done. I've enjoyed watching all of your videos but this one is fantastic! How far was the shot and what caliber?
I really appreciate the kind words Craig. Thank you very much!
The shot was right around 100 yards. 120 maybe. And using a 7mm Rem Mag
congrats!! hes an old boy!!
What caliber do you hunt with for these big deer? Thanks
I use a 7mm REM mag. It’s a little on the big side for deer but it works.
@@djboutdoors6473 i get it, big buck-big drag...you don't want to be draggin him over several ridges! And valleys. Need to drop him in his tracks! Fantastic job!
Take me with you🙏😆
Ha! I’m a terrible guide! 😂
He we probably score 165 and he dosent care that’s a giant anywhere near me. I guess you are in Canada but still 165
Well done .great shot hard work. But only a 165 ??? C'mon brother. 90 percent of us work just as hard and long and have never or will never see much less take a 165.
“Only 165” is a relative term. For some a 165 is a giant based on where they live, what the deer population is their area or the amount of time they are able to get out and hunt. For me I am very fortunate to live in an area where 165 inch deer, tho difficult to find, do exist to the extent I usually see at least one or two a season. I’m also very fortunate to have shot several book deer over 25 years of hunting so 165 (the score) isn’t a step up for me. With that all said, in no way was being able to harvest this great buck a step down. Out of all the deer I’ve shot this one is probably going to be one of the most memorable. I was extremely proud to take him and am pretty sure you can see that in the video. Thanks for watching.
First tikity tok deer!
And last lol
what a tank! id shoot that mass buck over a potential higher scorer any day
Should be there one hour before sunrise!!
Then you aren't in a hurry!!
And you call yourself a professional!!
@@toddrochel9282 lol, no one here calling ourselves professionals! Thanks for watching!
What an awesome buck, Congratulations. It is tough to film a hunt let alone self filming. I noticed a slight hesitation as the buck came in. Soot it or set up camera first. haha. Great video thanks for sharing.
Really appreciate it! Thanks
Yes, filming and hunting can be extremely difficult but it adds another element of challenge to it. That type of hunting (sitting in blind with camera on tripod) is probably the easiest way to get a hunt on video but still has it's difficulties. The camera fogging up on me that morning almost gave me a coronary knowing that deer could walk away at any moment. haha
