    I believe Manuel Maroun single-handedly ruined Detroit because of his hammerlock control over the Ambassador Bridge. But now, with the opening of the Gordie Howe International Bridge, Detroit can complete its transition from manufacturing to being one of the largest goods transit ports in the world, which will help revive Detroit's economy.

      something else that wasnt stated, Manual Maroun, in 2018 ran ads on Fox and friends in the U.S begging trump to cancel the bridge project.
      the man was a menace to the project. now the fuckers dead and his son cant do anything about it.
      also as a bonus info, those of us on the windsor side as im a residant, wanted thise bridge most because huron church which is leading up to the bridge are mainly city road, they were never meant to handle the wear and tear of hundreds if nor thousands of heavy 18 wheelers passing over them each day, so the cost to keep them maintained is a nightmare, plus the traffic impedes many of us who need to pass from one side of huron church to the other,
      so with the new bridge and being able to hook right up to the highway, is going to be a god send for all us windsorites.

    So Maroun fought against the bridge until 2018 when he was in his 90s because he thought that it would reduce his future profits?
    His greed was unlimited.
    He was already wealthy.
    What the heck did he think he was going to do with those extra profits in the few years he had left?
    He died in 2020 and the bridge still isn't completed now four years later so the bridge would not have cost him a cent unless he left instructions with his descendants to to turn any future profits into cash to throw into his grave.

      The problem is what happens after it opens. Ontario built toll Hwy 407 across the top of Toronto for billions of dollars and then sold it to a Spanish consortium for pennies on the dollar. It's expensive and billing is enforced by the government withholding renewals on your license. The "DMV" here is also a private for-profit company. Same thing with the dome in Toronto. Built and sold to politicians' buddies for a tiny fraction of what it cost.

    • @AlRoderick
      @AlRoderick 2 месяца назад +2

      Maybe true, but the trade between the US and Canada is far more important proportionally for the Canadian economy than the US, they took on the responsibility for funding the project so they could control it, because they didn't know if any subsequent administrations or legislatures in either the state of Michigan or the US federal government would bow to lobbying (by Manny Maroun or others) and withhold funds. Besides, it's basically a loan, they're going to earn the cost back on tolls which will be paid by whoever crosses regardless of what country they're from.

    • @jakeryan4545
      @jakeryan4545 2 месяца назад +4

      It was a smart negotiation on the Canadian part. Windsor suffers more from the truck traffic. Canada benefits more proportionately than the US from the bridge. But all that is besides the point. Michigan's budget was not doing well at the time. And while people wanted the new bridge, Maroun could have basically said it would cost too much and that Michigan didn't have the money to do this right now. Canada took that issue off the table. And if Maroun fighting so much concerning the bridge didn't let you know, the bridge will make plenty of money. Canada essentially loaned the bridge money, and will get it's money back.
