    Excellent review. Something I notice on this review and in fact on most computer builds nowadays is the perceived importance of the APPEARANCE of the components. How about a build video, Best Bang, with no cost towards special colors, or RGB, or visual touches. Concentrate on performance only. I'm looking for a 12th gen creator machine, probably 12600k, 64Gig, 2TB with zero concern for visuals. Thanks.

    The difference between “vision link” and the other port is: the vision link port will tunnel display port video from your discrete video card over the thunderbolt bus. So you can use the thunderbolt port to connect to a usb-c monitor for example and the display signal will be driven from your video card. The other non “vision link” port does something similar, but it’s linked to your iGPU if you have one. It’s just marketing nonsense from gigabyte.
    So if you connect a thunderbolt dock to the vision link port, monitors connected to that dock will be driven from the discrete gpu. the pro art z690 has dp in ports as well for this purpose, so does the z690 ace and one of the ASRock motherboard. and I wish other motherboards like the asus z690 hero or formula had the same feature but they do not.

    • @hemm2333
      @hemm2333 2 года назад

      Sorry, bit confused. So, if I've an integrated GPU in my CPU, can I use either of HDMI/TB4(non 'vision link') ports directly to connect to my monitor? In other case, if I've got a Graphics Card, should I connect the DP out of that to the DP In of the motherboard? Then how/where does the TB4/VisionLink port gets connected to? Thanks. I"m trying to figure out where and what is the need of the DP In Port?

    • @j340_official
      @j340_official 2 года назад +1

      @@hemm2333 so if you have no dedicated gpu but only an igpu, you can use it with the hdmI out, and both thunderbolt ports. If your cpu has no igpu then you will get no video output.
      But if you have a discrete gpu and you want to use it with your monitor over the thunderbolt bus, then connect a DisplayPort out from your discrete gpu into the DisplayPort in on the motherboard. The purpose of the display in port is so that the motherboard can tunnel the DisplayPort output from your discrete gpu via the vision link port. The benefit when use your monitor via thunderbolt, the signal will be driven from your discrete gpu and not the slower iGPU. You can connect the monitor directly to the thunderbolt port. Or you can connect a thunderbolt dock to your motherboard, and the monitor to the dock. And the display signal will be from your discrete gpu.
      This is cool because the iGPU is much slower (for gaming for example) than a discrete GPU. So if you can use your discrete GPU via the thunderbolt bus, you can game at high frame rates. Only thing I haven’t tested is whether DisplayPort tunneling on z690 supports variable refresh rates like monitors with AMD freesync. In theory it should because it’s just a tunneled DisplayPort signal. I know Apple’s thunderbolt 4 solution supports variable refresh rate. But hopefully this helps.

    subjective.. funny back when people first put windows on their cases it was to look at all the electronic components on the mother board and cards, similar to classic v8 engines in automobiles, today most people want to cover up all of those interesting details up just like todays automobiles that also cover their engines with plastic covers. I still like to see all the components and find it more interesting to look at rather than covers with a sticker on them.. that being said I do understand the cooling properties of some of the covers.

    Can someone please share their build details if you've used this motherboard. I'm looking to build one and so need some help. Thanks

    • @jayarmstrong
      @jayarmstrong Год назад

      This board is only about 1.5cm wider than an ATX board, so I'd go with the mid tower case. Buying separate fans lets you choose the quality. Some case fans are cheap, some are really nice.

  • @Visionary4787
    @Visionary4787 2 года назад +6

    You should've mentioned that the DisplayPort on this board is only a DisplayPort in, not out. So that leaves you with HDMI 1.4 (yes, 1.4.. which means 4K @ 30hz, 1080P @ 120hz..). However, the thunderbolts do support DisplayPort. If you plan on using a GPU without any display outputs, keep this in mind

    • @tfr
      @tfr Год назад

      10G, 10GB and 10GbE all mean the same thing: 10,000 mbps ethernet link speed.
      Your internet connection is probably not going to be even at least 1GBPS, therefore the only benefit of having an ethernet port above 1GbE is bandwidth and less congestion over the ethernet link. There will be little to no internet speed change using 10GbE, however it does have a few advantages:
      Usually network uplink, e.g the speed to your router is significantly faster which yields faster internal network speeds
      Faster transfers from your NAS, if you have one
      And, really for that matter, 10GbE is used with servers for their massive performance and uplink.
      Tl;dr - 10GbE LAN will not affect your internet speed. However it will affect intranet speed, including NAS transfer times and internal server hosting

      Unfortunately there are a limited number of PCIE lanes that can be allocated. A lot of them are dedicated to NVME slots. Each one of those NVME slots requires 4 x PCIE lanes. If you need a lot of PCIE slots then this motherboard isn't for you. Also with the size of GPU's today you can't use any space below a GPU for any cards at all.

    • @ManWithFace

      @@nabby5030 i wish there were some x2 slots instead. No one is in that desperate need of more than a gigabyte of sequential read/write, and stuff such as secondary GPUs&isolated usb cards for virtual machines and capture cards for streamers can always be necessary.

    Gotta give credit where it's due, Gigabyte's creator/workstation grade boards come with amazing minimalist design that we rarely see on other motherboard manufacturers. Unfortunately the weird audio jacks in the back I/O is the dealbreaker for me 😰

      Whats wrong with the audio jacks I genuinely dont see an issue so im curious.

    Greetings sir. If you would be so kind to give me some genuine answers of my questions, it will be very helpful for me.
    1. Why people think Intel motherboard is expensive but never mind AMD? (Not gonna lie, the rog x570 formula, impact, msi unify, ace, godlike etc type motherboard do cost higher than the Intel counterparts.)
    2. Why people praise AMD for overclock when intel can cross 6 and 7GHz but AMD still can't with their 5000 series?
    3. Why people say intel is hot? Do 5900X and 5950X run in negative° numbers?
    4. Why people are crazy for AMD motherboard and call it future-proof when a 5600x owner is also going to use it for at least 4 or 5 years. Couldn't AMD had launched a lot of motherboards in-between that time period? So why Intel having no future upgrade always got criticism when both are being used same?
    5. Why people don't agree to get an DDR5 Intel? Upcoming AMD is on pure DDR5 and don't have a DDR4 separate version like Intel. Price are high I can understand but are prices going to become extremely affordable when AMD will launch 7000 series? Is AMD LGA1700 going to launch without any single issue? I doubt it can have same instability and issues as Intel LGA1700
    Note: I am sorry if I sound aggressive. I am kinda new to this PC building and don't understand most things. Especially the flame wars like Intel vs amd, nvidia vs amd, gigabyte being bad etc

    That's vastly superior to the ddr4 board (and much better looking for those of us seeking white builds), now i understand the logic better. I feel like I should've opted for this; but ddr5 is still cost prohibitive for me, so...this DEFINITELY leaves me excited for 14th&15th gen, when ddr5 is finer tuned.

      Well, creator boards are a different league of things and interestingly there's not been a huge update to the HEDT CPU platforms neither from Ryzen nor Intel, so this is what the Prosumers have to work with :)

    • @Pillokun
      @Pillokun 2 года назад +1

      @@theTechNotice well yeah, but speed is to be honest not that important today. Either you get a biffy system with lots of dimmslots or you build a super small itx system with an i7/i9 or even an am4 sys if you prefer that. But those 4slot dims mobos are nothing special, better to buy the cheapests msi z690 board instead as it has the same amount of ram slots and have 4 m2 slots as well.

    Is that HDMI 2.1 ?….Its been known since the 486 computer that Aluminum does NOT make a Good Heatsink. Cooper is a better conductor of Heat. Where is the 5.1 Audio ?….If you cover everything up the motherboard will not be able to dissipate Heat.
