  • What to used these onions for. Patty Melts, sauces, soups, any meat, French onion dip, Hamburgers, Philly cheesesteaks, omelets, dips, pizza topping, French Onion Soup, hotdogs, really any way you like to use them!
    onions 3-8 pounds (I used 6lbs)
1/2-1 stick of butter (I used 6lb bag)
    1-2 teaspoons cooking oil
Chop your onions in desired shape (I diced mine this time) In a Crockpot/Slow Cooker, add the butter and a drizzle of oil. Add onions on top of the butter. Start out on high for approximately 2 hours. Give it a good stir after 2 hours, in order to disperse the butter/oil throughout the onions. Turn the crockpot to low. For a caramelized onion total time is about 9-11 hours total. For a more sautéed onion the time is 5-7 hours. Total cooking time depends on how you want your onions to be, how they were chopped and the amount of onions used. Also, the crockpot itself. can vary in times to cook. After they cook down, I separate the onions into sandwich bags approximately one onions worth per bag. You can also do 1/2 onions worth. Depending on how much you use at a time. Place all of the smaller bags into a freezer bag.

Dang! I didn't even have the concept of this easy carmelized onions! My husband makes the best french onion soup and he has to stand there and stir it. You are a gift to us idiots 🤣! You are truly precious to me, my friend and sister.

I love that onion broth, I freeze them in ice trays. I put the cubes in freezer bags.

Thank you so much. I've done this without butter or oil to dehydrate. They are great to even snack on.

This is french onion soup in the making. I've only used caramelized onions on steaks. Going to have to try this in recipes.

Can you use a food processor to chop the onions and save some tears?

The only problem that I would see with doing that would be that
they would cook down to a mush consistency. I would think that they would also have a tendency to burn. :D

Im doing this now, there's a ton of liquid in it. They're pretty much boiling. Im leaving lid off, and even using a baster to get out liquid.

Hello, sorry for late response. Yes there is always liquid. If you want just drain them in a colander. I save the liquid for soups. The liquid comes from the onions, liquid gold flavor! :D

You’re absolutely correct. I hate watching them cutting. And usually their knife skills are like watching a small child playing with a loaded gun.
