The English Patient is not a movie for all tastes. Simply you like or hate it. About the story-line i just say the movie have been Awarded with more than one Oscar Prize ~among each, Direction, soundtrack and photography compete with powerful role characters performance I consider high level in acting. Also Cairo and dry desert environment creates the kind of atmosphera for a dramatic love affair into a War staged in África under harsh conditions.🔥
I saw this movie in the theater when it was released more than 20 years ago. I had just got into College. I was accompanied by a girl who was taking a class with me. I saw her crying on more than one occasion during the film. We were young and I didn't understand the value of those tears at that time. I let her go without telling her what she expected. Maybe I lost the love of my life and I didn't realize. When I wanted to search for her again, I just remembered her name. She had moved. I did not have her number. I had nothing. Those were not the times of Facebook. Today, whenever I watch the movie I remember her, the woman I never saw again, Rubi.
I also saw this in the theater when I was 22. I remember my boyfriend at the time asking me about the timeline, why Katherine slapped Almasy, and other things he said he just didn't "get". He said it was too much for him, lol, but he was glad I loved it. Of course we're not together anymore, but he'll always be linked to this movie in my memories.
I wasn’t even 20 when this movie came out, I watched it and didn’t finish. I grew into it as I got older and evolved, it remains one of my all time my favorite movies. I come back to it all the time like an old friend that always seems to keep wounding me, love it. This art imitates life too closely...
My darling, I'm waiting for you - how long is a day in the dark, or a week? The fire is gone now, and I'm horribly cold. I really ought to drag myself outside but then there would be the sun. . . I'm afraid I waste the light on the paintings and on writing these words. We die, we die rich with lovers and tribes, tastes we have swallowed, bodies we have entered and swum up like rivers, fears we have hidden in, like this wretched cave. We are the real countries, not the boundaries drawn on maps with the names of powerful men. I know you will come and carry me out into the palace of winds. That's all I've wanted - to walk in such a place with you, with friends, on earth without maps... The lamp has gone out and I'm writing... in the darkness.
@Jonathan Birch I need to see it. I definitely get a sense of a few nods to Casablanca. I will try to watch Dr. Zhivago soon. Looks interesting, especially if you say it influenced this great film.
This one of most perfect couples in film history, it's sad when you go to different video montages they barely appear. All have the notebook titanic, twilight, Spider-man and the typicals but it's very difficult to see one where Katherine and Almasy appear.
Loved this movie from the bottom of my heart. Only a deep , sensitive person can understand its emotions n passion of this couple. N music just enhanced the whole movie through out. So touched💔
+Joy Agustian Ralph fiennes is an actor but he played in other movies than "Harry potter"! He was an actor before and a very good one.He is a brilliant Count Almasy and a fine man.
The book is good, I read it long time ago after I watched the movie. But in such rare instances, In prefer the film over the book. Same thing applies to Damage, starring Jeremy Irons and Juliet Binoche.
Трогательный фильм я плакал Волан-де-Морт в прошлой жизни был романтиком испытав много боли понятно почему стал злым .Шутка актер сыграл в этих двух фильмах
Ralph Fiennes surpasses many actors. He is so utterly gorgeous and amplifies emotion. Perfect.
Surpasses MOST actors - imho
I don’t understand the criticisms of the film being too long or boring. Honestly, it’s one of the most captivating and well-paced films I’ve ever seen
Elaine from Seinfeld finds the film very tedious and boring.
John Davis
Ik, but I still don’t get it
@@JohnDavis-nx8hh No idea who that is, but why would I care anyway?

Couldn’t agree more. Stupendous achievement.
Kristin is such a lovely actress. She deserved her Oscar nomination for this. 💚
Actually She recieved an Oscar nomination for this movie as Ralph Fiennes
@@percyquintana7787 ... which is why the comment says ''HER nomination'' not ''A nomination'' implying she did receive one and it was warranted.
Ralph is gorgeous. Those eyes. I could get lost in them forever.

I saw this movie in the theater when I first started college too. Such a sad movie

@@anwyn9846, So our stories are similar.
Such a sad story. I can relate though. When we were young, we young men didn't know what to do yet.
"I will never leave you." What we all really want, isn't it? In the past, in the moment, in the end.
True

I play the soundtrack all the time....I can see the movie in my brain, and my heart beats a little faster.
Most heart touching i have ever seen.....the soulful and undying romance between Almasy and Katherine is eternal.😍😍😍😍
Twin Flames.... "I promise, I'l never leave you"...
This sentence truly means so much more... the most beautiful love!
Oh cut this crap, there is no such thing as ''twin flames''. There is just love amd commitment, that's it.
One of the greatest films of all time...
Or at least I have remembered it that way for so long...

Why? Now it’s a good time to let go. There’s nothing you can do for me. It’s all right. Let go of control. Whatever needs to happen, will happen.
