Can we take a moment to give thanks to that lady in that care home all those years ago who was the inspiration for the character of Nan. Little did she know that she would sort of live on forever.
The irony is my dad's in a care home and the people who come along to do these kind of sing-a-long things do the same songs and time period now - 4 decades after Tate did it. As though my dad fought in WW2 and remembers it all or visited music halls. They seem to have forgotten that, by the time I get to a care home what will be 'old time songs' will be the music of the 70s and 80s, not Vera Lynn or music hall songs from the time of the sinking of the titanic.
Something I love about Tom is that as much as he’s a good storyteller in his own right, he’s equally as fascinated by other’s stories. So.... he actually really enjoyed listening to Matt Lauer's story and his point of view? I did not see him becoming an instant fan of anything during that interview. And certainly not of the strides the medical field has made in diagnosing and treating mental illnesses over the years. I have always found the common theme with him to be "it's my way or the highway", and as long as you agree with everything he says and does, everyone gets along just fine!
