I agree. As a country and state, we have always taken citizens independence and responsibility as a thing to be taken care of by the individual. inspections etc to me are an overreach and cash grab for no real reason.
I am originally from NJ (now in SC). In the past, inspection was a joke- it was a cursory look at the car, a light and brake check (brake check at ~ 1.5 mph, so you could be down to the pad backing and the car would still stop and you would pass)- they had motorcycle inspections as well that was a general look at the bike for literally a few seconds, beep the horn and turn the lights on. That was it. Over time, I think the state government realized the waste involved and cut the inspection station staff from about 20 people down to about 4, just for the emissions check (which when I was last there was an OBD2 read for codes and drive the car over a camera to make sure you had a catalytic converter on the car). In SC, there are no inspections, even for emissions, and the cars here are really no different than they were back in NJ (meaning not appearing any less safe).
Laziness or lack of knowledge is not an excuse. I should Not have to suffer to have someone who doesn’t know anything tell me my vehicle is good and demand $15+ to do it.
State safety inspectors(at least in Mo) aren't "don't know anything" people.....each individual inspector must have verifiable certain amount of actual hands on experience, and be individually tested to make sure they do know what they're doing.

@@llzbutton5608 I’ve lived here for 45 years and only inspections I’ve ever had were emissions testing and level one inspections when I purchased vehicles with out of state titles.
If brakes didn't make noise, people wouldn't get them fixed until they stopped working. Too many people don't know enough about cars to maintain them properly. Unfortunately, the system gets taken advantage of by the repair shops. But without this, many dangerous safety issues would go unchecked.

To me, that’s the wrong move. Inspections are good to determine what cars need to be taken off the road or fixed. This is gonna lead to a lot of dangerous vehicles on the road in Texas. 😡
Many states don't have vehicle inspection and it's possible the reason it's not necessary is because a vehicle is more likely to fail a smog check before failing a vehicle safety inspection so if they can't be bothered to get the vehicle to pass smog, it'll be removed from the road anyway.
whatever, custom car guys like me finally don't have to worry about someone passing our cars, and yes I am not STUPID, I don't do illegal things on my cars, just tasteful mods that the state does not allow, if you have 5 percent tint on your windshield, the cops will still pull you over despite the fact you don't have to worry about inspection.

Bad o2 sensors mean basically nothing in function. If it goes out the ecu defaults to a backup factory setting, which may not be perfectly tuned for your particular elevation, meaning the car may run slightly rich or lean, but ultimately it'll still run fine.
VA is currently working on getting rid of state inspection. If anything, state inspection is a money grab for dealerships/repair shops that refuse to give you a pass if you don't fix issues that they "find". Bald tires could easily escalate into: you need a steering rack replaced, a whole suspension, etc...
A vehicle inspection isn't to protect the owner of the car. It's to protect others who share the road with a vehicle that doesn't brake, turn, accelerate, or signal properly. So what happens when a state eliminates such requirements? That's actually easy to see; auto insurance companies immediately raise premiums because they understandably will get more claims from drivers who crash their cars more often.
@@mcalvert1000 In Texas the annual inspection was for safety items, and in a lot of counties emissions testing was also done. If you lived in a city then it was hard to even see downtown because of particulate emissions, and places with steel/iron roofs would see it eaten through from acid rain. The wait in long lines at the inspection stations is a real problem. I have seen that every year cars are backed up onto the major highways and busy roadways waiting for an inspection. Cars nowadays are deliberately made to fail on a regular basses as they spend a good amount of time at the car repair shop where they get a through inspection by a mechanic. It is high time that the state inspection is eliminated. The continued fee is just the criminal greed of our captors shining through..
Get it fixed so it would pass......you want junk cars w no brakes or front ends falling apart on the road w you and your family????? Think about it !!!!!!
The merit of vehicle inspections is one thing but unscrupulous repair shops thrive off of them since many of those shops were doing the inspections and flunking cars not really needing such repairs.
If only NC had this. They won't even let you pay for tax, tag and registration if your car fails an inspection. If you have an old clunker with a check engine light on it automatically fails. I would unhook the battery and hope the light wouldn't come back on until I got it inspected.
What you’re not being told is now there will not be “fix-it” tickets. Instead you will be paying big if your brake light bulb or headlight bulb goes out on the way home.
I pass numerous vehicles every day in to work with one headlight. Maybe if they would bring back vehicle inspections people would learn. If you drive a vehicle, you are responsible for keeping everything working on that vehicle. Including head and taillights.
They are only doing away with the safety inspection, NOT the emissions inspections. Depending on what county you live in, you will still have an inspection. I feel they should keep the safety and get rid of the emissions one.
When tf has it ever been $7.50? It’s been $18.50 since 2005 unless your car is over 25 years old, now all my cars are “classics” so I always pay $7.00 regardless but here in El Paso at least it’s never been $7.50
I'm more concerned about whether or not officials are going to use this as an excuse to try and violate our 4th amendment with the excuse of a roadside safety check.
Take a tour of my neighborhood in east Fort Worth. You will find a half dozen vehicles with expired registration on the the streets. The police and the city don’t care. Before you judge, this is a middle class neighborhood.😢
You should see some of the raging shitboxes that are “legally” running around the roads here in New Hampshire. If you “know a guy” you can get a sticker for your rot box, year after year. At the same time, in neighboring states which don’t require annual inspections, there’s no epidemic of rolling death traps careening all over the road killing their occupants and anybody who happens to be nearby. As a mechanic of 20 years, I can tell you that annual inspections are mainly a money grab by the state, and an opportunity for unscrupulous shops to upsell people on work they don’t need.
In Florida no car inspections. Some vehicles are too sketchy to be on the road. A good example would be a vehicle i saw with front and rear damage held together by duct tape.

@@jimbeam2705 it's already been long shown that illegal immigrants are less likely to commit crimes than citizens, dude--especially felonies. Even if they're tempted, most don't want the attention
In new york state, the inspection stations fail you for ripped, torn or wiper blades without live rubber- live rubber is actually in the code. no one can explain what it is
Bad idea every pos is going to be on the road wood for springs you know who you are 🤨
Live rubber is soft non cracked / non rotted rubber.
NY , the crookedest state .
I left nys primarily to excape nys's harrassing inspection. I now live in Connecticut, which checks only the check engine light & the cat con.....every 2 years.
@@Marc816 said " I left nys primarily to excape nys's harrassing inspection. "
Right on man !!! I'm all for cars with bald tires and brakes on one wheel !!!!
Here in Pa., the registration fee will go up 15 dollars a year. An annual inspection costs anywheres from 50 to 80 dollars, depending on where you take your vehicle. With the time saved on scheduling the appointment, losing use of the vehicle, and picking up the vehicle, I dont know why anyone would complain about the added cost to a registration.
The annual registration will go up $15. Because they are doing away with inspection stickers. Definitely worth it.
Here in AZ there’s no vehicle inspections and no shortage of crapboxes with busted/falling off parts or just missing half the parts. You see these regularly and wonder why the heck they are even on the road anymore instead of being in the scrap yard.
I live in AZ and was told I have to get an inspection in 2025 when my plates expire.
@@llzbutton5608 I’ve lived here for 45 years and only inspections I’ve ever had were emissions testing and level one inspections when I purchased vehicles with out of state titles.
@pcs9518 Maricopa and Pima Counties only; here along the river, smog check in Needles only
I lived in Indiana did inspections but with the right mechanic they would give the inspection sticker even though your wouldnt pass
That’s fantastic that they’re not doing inspection anymore! Big win for the constitution! Big win for America! Praise God!
Does this include all the states in America? Here in Rhode Island you have to inspect your car every 2 years
In Virginia, every year.
YAY!! A TIME SAVER 🎉
If brakes didn't make noise, people wouldn't get them fixed until they stopped working.
Too many people don't know enough about cars to maintain them properly.
Unfortunately, the system gets taken advantage of by the repair shops. But without this, many dangerous safety issues would go unchecked.
I'm tired of being taken by repair shops that can make up anything to rob you. You have no choice unless you want to lose your plate.
The science proves you wrong
This just makes me realize how expensive everything in California is. We don’t have state inspections, but yearly registration is around $250 for me.
Good! These stupid safety inspections where they only care about your tailpipe are a joke. They don’t even look at the real safety items like tires and brakes! And God help you if the check engine light is on! Good riddance to this stupid useless inspection law.
I wish they’d discontinue the vehicle inspections in Virginia, we could save the headache of waiting in line and the $20.00 fee
Bruh you know how many states wish they don’t need to do inspection. Especially NYC where the fee is $34. I rather pay $7.50 a year or so just not to do inspection. Especially if my car is cat-less 😈😈
The emissions Inspections are not going away only the safety Inspections so you still have to get your vehicle checked to register
@@donselke9487 emission 😭😭😭
@donselke9487 In NYC it's $37 for the whole thing, no separate emmission test.
Wish theyd do this in Maine! You better have damn near everything replaced each year to even get a sticker here at all. Its a nightmare! 💯🤷
Driving in Winter all year is no joke either
Unfortunately I don’t live in the state of Texas
There are thousands of vehicles that won't pass inspection and they go to places that will pass the vehicle good or bad
Tru same as in car emissions..
Just pay a lil extra to get it pass.
To me, that’s the wrong move. Inspections are good to determine what cars need to be taken off the road or fixed. This is gonna lead to a lot of dangerous vehicles on the road in Texas. 😡
Somehow we survived without doing this all the way up until the 90's. How did we ever survive... lol
America the land of the free because of the brave stop whining pleasee
Inspection is a money grab. There are a lot of places that will inspect your vehicle. 4 extra couple dollars.
Many states don't have vehicle inspection and it's possible the reason it's not necessary is because a vehicle is more likely to fail a smog check before failing a vehicle safety inspection so if they can't be bothered to get the vehicle to pass smog, it'll be removed from the road anyway.
Ok commie. You worry about ypur own car and stay out of our business.
That’s gonna be more issues. there will be more cars on the road with issues and emission issue.
whatever, custom car guys like me finally don't have to worry about someone passing our cars, and yes I am not STUPID, I don't do illegal things on my cars, just tasteful mods that the state does not allow, if you have 5 percent tint on your windshield, the cops will still pull you over despite the fact you don't have to worry about inspection.
Nh is 40-50 for inspection...the rust factor is huge.
I'm from Texas but have lived in Wyoming for 22 years the state of Wyoming has never had such a thing, and we don't have frivolous charges, we have no state tax, what we do have are state representatives that work for the people who voted them in office most importantly Common sense.
Check this out; I'd pay an extra $20 on TOP of that $7.50 for the privilege of not having to have a stupid inspection
I wander if the smog test is being eliminated? I live in California and there are a lot of garbage cars on the road with no working lights and tires that blow out
America, the home of the Whopper & taxes
So catless down pipes…. Check engine lights….bad O2 sensors come on innnnnn 😂
Bad o2 sensors mean basically nothing in function. If it goes out the ecu defaults to a backup factory setting, which may not be perfectly tuned for your particular elevation, meaning the car may run slightly rich or lean, but ultimately it'll still run fine.
To bad not in Virginia.
VA is currently working on getting rid of state inspection. If anything, state inspection is a money grab for dealerships/repair shops that refuse to give you a pass if you don't fix issues that they "find". Bald tires could easily escalate into: you need a steering rack replaced, a whole suspension, etc...
@@Baebon6259no inspections and legal weed! VA is becoming a libertarian paradise. And I couldn’t be happier.
@@failranch9542 and also with a Republican governor. I could live with that.
It's emission testing. Has nothing to do with mechanical problems. 😂
wait, what... turn signals work(ed) in TX...when did this happen? Why didn't I get the memo. Many think it's a malfunctioning light and don't use it.
@@mcalvert1000 In Texas the annual inspection was for safety items, and in a lot of counties emissions testing was also done. So Yes, they were looking for certain mechanical issues like tire tread depth , lights , obvious steering defects and a brake test among other items. I think we will still need an annual emissions test if you live in an emissions county like all of DFW , Houston , etc etc
@@StumpyVanLife A lot of drivers seem to have a particular illness called "the government is taking all my money" when the opposite is obviously true. For instance, a vehicle inspect in Missouri cost $12 every two years (or $10 if a motorcycle) but the actual inspection cost is closer to $100; the difference is paid via other taxes paid to the inspection station. Society obviously doesn't want drivers to be even more dangerous than what they already are by allowing them to drive unsafe vehicles, so everyone eats the cost of inspection.
As for emissions, does anyone even remember what the 1970's was like with highways through cities spewing massive amounts of nitrous and leaded fuel? If you lived in a city then it was hard to even see downtown because of particulate emissions, and places with steel/iron roofs would see it eaten through from acid rain.
And yet, with the amazing catalytic converter and unleaded fuels, most of that pollution went away in 20 short years. However, we're still dealing with lethally high lead contamination near highways to this day...but pollution used to be unimaginably high in the 1970's.
@@K03sport Look at the little troll. 🤣🤣🤣

Well, looks like I can stop worrying about the intermittent CEL on my old Dodge truck…….👍
I pretty much already know what it’s for (vapor canister) but it comes on infrequently enough that the past few years I’ve just taken it in for inspection when it happens to be out. This year, the dang thing literally came on as I was driving to the inspection station - had to wait several days for it to go out and then go for it…….😂
In the U.K. the annual inspection (MOT test) is £55.
It’s about time ! Inspections are a joke they are done by gas stations and garages slip them a twenty dollar bill it passes !
yeah thats just it, it really means NOTHING, and I am ecstatic as a custom car guy, just got my muffler delete and apparently that does not pass inspection in PA, oh well, haha.
Junk vehicles will roam free now. Instead of the fake inspection each year where they just check lights and see if the horn works, the inspection should be every 3 years where the vehicle is put on a lift and suspension, brake lines, frame, structural integrity, exhaust system, wheels/tires, etc. are all checked. Getting a look under the vehicle tells the real story about the condition it is in. The inspection should be done by state troopers like in some states in the NE. No shady repair shops or dealers should be involved.
Why can't you mind your own?

In Canada it costs $200 every two years to keep your car registered. Total rip off.

If you can't afford the $37 it is to get the car inspected, how would you be able to afford the gas?

You need to find a better mechanic. I've always gotten my car inspection done within the week of the call I made for an appointment. And I never leave it with them, Inspection takes 30 minutes to an hour tops.
Find another shop. Depending on the car, it should take 2 hours at the most. Thats what the state calls for at the max.
Does the state do these inspections? If done by independent shops, how well do you think they're checking your car for 7 dollars?
Give us a break, $7.50 I wish. We pay $27 every year in New York plus $80 per year for registration. Trade you any day.
No inspection definitely means unsafe vehicles on the roads. Just look at the videos here on YT for "just rolled in" to see some of the unsafe vehicles people drive everyday on the roads.
they are already on the road anyway, inspections rip those of us off with good cars and custom tastes!
We are 1 of only 15 states that even require inspection anymore. Its time. I currently can't drive my damn car because my check engine light is on and I can't get inspection stickers until my light is off. But my car runs. I just can't get it fixed to pass inspection. Its screwing me majorly not having transportation
There are like 4 billion vehiciles in Texas. It's not practical to inspect each one.
Does anyone know of PA is also getting rid of state inspections for sure? I really hope they do!
Goes to show you what is always been all about. A money grab. Same with emissions. And registration.
Florida hasn’t had inspection for 30 years and nobody drives around with duct tape and 99% want their families to be safe in a vehicle and I came from a lickem and stickem state where a tie rod fell out of the truck 6 miles down the road luckily was just backing it up when it fell out
bruh texas turning to afghanistan every day a little more
Most inspection places push for unneeded sales for the commission, just like Firestone/Goodyear especially go hard after they see a women entering the store and use scare tactics for sales.
yeah, inspections are a massive scam in that aspect indeed. I really don't feel there will be any worse cars then there already are anyway on the road, in Scranton, PA for example it's like a moving junkyard already!
So many states in the south do not have emissions & inspections.
California never check vehicles, they only check the Smog Every 2 years. At least Texas removed their requirement to check your vehicle to get your annual registration renewal
Cars with no tail lights .,turn signal worn tires .
You only had to have tread in the middle anyways, I've been worn through steel on the edges and passed no problem
Happens all the time in Florida, where they don’t do any inspections.
Right, so sombody who's poor should have to spend what little money he has to fix his only form of transportation because YOU don't like how run down his car looks, making it harder for him to afford a new car.
I live in El Paso. We have a ton of cars from Juarez Mexico. They don’t have any certifications. All is good.
Safety and emissions in taxsylvania goes between 50,60 dollars

Get it fixed so it would pass......you want junk cars w no brakes or front ends falling apart on the road w you and your family????? Think about it !!!!!!
Brah be happy no more inspections. Stop complaining about 7 bucks
En n.c es una mielda
What you’re not being told is now there will not be “fix-it” tickets. Instead you will be paying big if your brake light bulb or headlight bulb goes out on the way home.
I would love to pay $7.25 in California. The Smog Checks are a minimum of $50.
Yup knew they start taxing for our air

I pass numerous vehicles every day in to work with one headlight. Maybe if they would bring back vehicle inspections people would learn. If you drive a vehicle, you are responsible for keeping everything working on that vehicle. Including head and taillights.
They are only doing away with the safety inspection, NOT the emissions inspections. Depending on what county you live in, you will still have an inspection. I feel they should keep the safety and get rid of the emissions one.
emission testing is nothing in rural counties in PA for example. doubt they all do it.
A product of zero state income taxes. They don't want to give up on fees.
When tf has it ever been $7.50? It’s been $18.50 since 2005 unless your car is over 25 years old, now all my cars are “classics” so I always pay $7.00 regardless but here in El Paso at least it’s never been $7.50
Do make sure before paying registration Do have updated insurance.
Sounds like they’re just doing away with the safety part. High population counties probably still require emissions, so a CEL is a fail
It’s no big deal. GA doesn’t have state vehicle inspection either. It does state emissions inspection.
Im from Alabama and im still surprised we dont need a front tag
I'm more concerned about whether or not officials are going to use this as an excuse to try and violate our 4th amendment with the excuse of a roadside safety check.

Big win for insurance companies. They will claim vehicle maintenance negligence on most claims. 😢
Yep
You can always find a corrupt inspection station and get an inspection sticker. The whole system was created to keep dealerships and garages happy.

In Florida no car inspections. Some vehicles are too sketchy to be on the road. A good example would be a vehicle i saw with front and rear damage held together by duct tape.
