    To be quite honest, I've felt like Abe Piper at times and can resonate with him. I think at the root of it is a gross misunderstanding and misbelief of the Good News of Jesus and His complete work. The implication of the preaching and overall environment in most churches is that if you're a decent guy and "try" to live a good life, God is pleased with you, things go well for you, people in the church esteem and elevate you as someone pious and righteous, BUT once you commit some unthinkable sin, like get angry, or proud, or god forbid some sexual sin, then God (and his people) turns His back on you, until you prove to be a decent guy again.. Abe may have felt that growing up, perhaps a misrepresented God that demands perfection, and gets what He demands in the perfect life of Christ, however what Abe observed among christians is the lowering of the perfect standard of God's law, while few pious that achieve that "lowered" standard of God's law, they turn out to be jerks and hypocrites and far removed from the concept of Grace.

      His father understands free grace better than almost anyone. He’s the one, for instance, who welcomed a recurrence of cancer because he had developed a habit of self-reliance. So I don’t think it’s fair suggest Abraham hasn’t heard you can’t work yourself into salvation.

    • @quickattackfilms7923
      @quickattackfilms7923 3 года назад +2

      @G D It’s good news to those who know they’re perishing. Without Jesus, we are in shackles to sin and death. It’s Jesus who redeemed us of our sins and freed us from the death that awaits us. You offer some questions that maybe cause you doubt, and I might be able to answer them. But ultimately, I don’t know how to make you want life or how to make you want to be forgiven, but Christ freely offers you both of those things… because he loves you truly. And to those who desperately want forgiveness and life, that is incredibly good news.
      If you want me to answer questions, I’ll try my best. God bless you, man.

      God cannot save against the free will Abraham Piper chooses to exercise in rejecting Him. I also don’t believe that is the direction for our prayers to go, as we are in essence praying for God to go against His own character, it’s simply impossible while making an idol of the life of a man. Best be, I believe, biblically speaking, we pray that God use all circumstances (which I trust and believe He most probably already is) to steer Abraham (and so also your son) to truth, removing the adversaries deceit, but also poiting to the wickedness of our own hearts. I pray for your heart Pamela, may you see the thirsts of your sons heart, and may you be guided by the wisdom of the Word through the power of the Holy Spirit. My heart breaks for your situation 🙏

      There is no point in a debate when only one of the participants uses “Scriptures says…” as the foundation of an argument. A debate requires an agreed upon definition of terms. “The Bible says” means something to you people that it does not mean to anyone else. There is no debate. There’s one man using scripture to validate his personal beliefs as if they’re universal truths, and another man who does not share the same beliefs, saying “I don’t care what the Bible says.” No debate. I came over here from an atheist facebook group where someone mentioned Abraham Piper. I'm a former believer and I consider myself an agnostic who doubts the existence of the Judeo-Christian or Islamic God. By some definitions, that makes me an atheist; by others it doesn't. Whoever Abraham Piper is, he certainly seems like a goofy guy in this video, but I feel like he has something good that many commenters here might be missing, and certainly are not seeing in him. In my experience, when one allows themself room to doubt their indoctrinated beliefs, and to question things and think about other possibilities, for lack of a more philosophical way of saying it, it feels free; it feels great. It brings happiness. That's true in my case anyhow. I feel like maybe Piper enjoys that too. On the other hand, the comments left here that express fear for, disdain of, or mockery of Piper make it feel like I'm listening to a household of children who have a very toxic, abusive parent. Everyone's walking on eggshells, afraid to do or say something that might upset the parent and invalidate their whole existence and get them cast into a dark, scary eternity outside the house. And brother Abraham here is casually going about his day not obeying the long list of specific rules posted on the kitchen wall, so everyone's trying to warn, hush, mock or distance themself from him. Maybe my perspective is flawed somehow, but that's my honest take on this. Wherever Piper is going (evidence for an afterlife is another question), I think it sounds more free and healthy than where I was indoctrinated to want to go. Not sure I'd ever do a man-bun like Piper's, but I wish I had enough hair to have the option. :)

I guess everyone else saw that as an obvious given. But, it's remarkable. The fact remains, Abe Baby isn't even quoting the Bible. He's quoting himself, and representing it as Scripture. Hmmm. Something about "whoever adds or subtracts from this book" being a dangerous behavior comes to mind....

    ““Strive to enter through the narrow door. For many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able.” Luke 13:24. Why do Christians make striving out to be such a bad thing when the Lord Jesus tells us to strive to stay on the narrow path?
    You say that “the more you peddle, the more salvation escapes you.” What about where the apostle Paul said “No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.” 1 Corinthians 9:27
    Also, “Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord.” Hebrews 12:14.

      Spoken with a smile I'm not sure if your words are meant to be understood just as they written or if you are baiting Calvinists. There's a lot of trolling on the www. I'm not making a judgement on your intent except to accept your words at face value. Without inflection in dialogue I'm overly verbose to avoid misunderstanding as you may see. I've wondered the same thing and have seen pastors' children run from the God of Grace and act the fool. There's my preamble.
      I think a full on 5 pointer or an Arminian would feel about the same. At least the Calvinist is willing to accept God's sovereignty in the outward effects of his son's actions. God named Abram and his descendants as His chosen and also chose Pharaoh and Judas to do what they did. As a father I don't think I'd be particularly happy with that even if I maintained peace about it. To live with the thought your child is a reprobate must lead to more prayer and dependance on the Father.
      Grace and peace.

    Kind of wish he would’ve given a little context of why Jesus said what He said. So if he would’ve actually studied what Jesus meant by saying “if you try to save your life you will lose it, but if you lose your life for Me you will find it” and you must hate your life in order to be a disciple of Jesus.” So basically when you understand the context and the place and times He was saying this, which pretty much meant that if you denied Jesus “who is eternal life/God”the Son”” to try and save your life, since during back then and several parts in the world even today could mean that you will most definitely be beaten/jailed or death by believing in Jesus as your Lord and Savior. So if you deny Christ then Christ says He will deny you in the judgement in the presence of the Father and the angels and then you would go to hell because you denied the one who his eternal life and therefore you don’t have eternal life which again is hell because you you denied Him. So it would be better to hate your life “deny yourself/deny the comforts of this world/life” here on earth and possibly die for Christ “martyr” and receive God/eternal life in paradise/Heaven/an eternal weight of glory. Again to deny Christ means that you deny eternal life in paradise with God Almighty. So in that sense it is better to deny yourself or “hate” yourself then deny Christ. By “hate yourself” it doesn’t mean that you beat yourself up because you are to destroy yourself for hating yourself. It just means to deny yourself and live for Christ who is eternal life! I pray you live for Christ who saved us!
