The problem about being weak in negotiations has to do with the training dancers receive. I am not sure how it is nowadays, but when I was going through the training, it had this military like aura. We had to always obey the teacher, no matter what. You had to dance, even if you were injured, no matter what. You had to be agreeable and always say yes. So this kind of learned behavior does not create people who are aware of their own self-worth and how to protect themselves. They blindly have faith in the system that it will work in their favor. Which some times does, and others doesn't. A lot of the self-esteem issues that dancers have, the depression and nihilism they go through, has to do with this suppression of their individuality. And of course, you really can't have a 12 year old question the teacher every time they give a correction or try to teach them the basics. But there should be a mechanism that allows students to express themselves without being afraid all the time. Getting some corporate education is really beneficial and will make a dancer see the world very differently.

You are absolutely on point! "Military-like aura" is a very precise way to put it, especially in certain ballet methods. It's very hierarchical, and contrary to belief, there is not much room for self-expression and creativity.

I wish I had taken my internal love of dancing and allowed it to show. I was introverted with my talent (such that it was; I was mediocre). I should have enjoyed it more.

Sometimes, we must let ourselves be. Our childhood passions are often the most true and intense of our lives.

9:45 , just want to point out that maybe it was obvious, but in case anyone wants to now what "mistreat" meant, it is sexual harassment. (written in the Japanese subs, but vague in English.) Anyway, thank you for the insights as someone who has always wondered what a dancer's life was like.

Being small can be an advantage when you are coupled with a small male partner. It seems to me that your height actually worked in your favor! I know a couple of famous Russian dancers that would have loved having you as a partner!

    スポーツ業界でも、セカンドキャリアが、問題になります。
    優秀なスポーツ選手程、引退後に、やれること、やりたいことが分からずに困ったり等 が有るようです。
