Glad to see cleanup and oraganization of room...should free up money to buy more comics! It's tough if you are going to have to collect two of each 100 pager DC books :-)...

I kicked off the year by being bedridden for a week, so I'm still sorting out my 2024 collecting goals. I'll continue, like you, with my 100-page Spectacular acquisitions, both filling the gaps & hopefully finding higher grade copies of others. I'll also continue with DCU logo variants and Marvel 25th Anniversary covers, which is nearing completion finally!

Those are some great books! Some of those I never even heard of before! Good luck!

Have a good 2024. Corrections: come on Jim - we both know that there were no 100-page issues of Ghosts or House of Secrets back in the 1970s…! (You may be thinking of Ghosts in Limited Collectors Edition.) And Action Comics did not have a 100-page run -- just an issue or two.

With the significant price correction in 2023, big books are coming closer. There will be oppertunities and hidden treasures will be found for acceptable prices. The market in The Netherlands, where i live, is niche and quite small. We don't have frequenctly shows in the area like most of the collectors in the US. Ebay and a Dutch craigslist look-a-like are my main sources to score. As mainly X-titles and ASM (former run) collector i'm became more interesting into golden/silver age DC by watching Jim's and the Liberty Hills Comics channel. I quited completing runs a few years ago because i don't read them anymore, the many fill runners i have and the space they take. Last year when i got back into comics have been focussed on keys and high ratio variants only.
For 2024 i want to start with (deap)clean and press as easiest way to upgrade what i have so far. And i hope to buy several silver/bronze VF+ or better books in the price range of $200-250 to add more value to the collection. This to prepare my end game to leave the hobby in 10-15yrs by getting the best 300-400 slabbed and selling the whole collection as mystery boxes.

Very impressive to finish JLA vol 1....I'm about 80 issues short

I have the first appearance of Detective Chimp in a 1970s DC reprint and that's the closest I'll ever get to owning Rex The Wonder Dog #4 (in fact, any of that series as they are all expensive).

I'm trying to get all 80 page giants, which I used to have back in the day. 100 Pagers sounds like a cool challenge

We have similar goals. I also have started keeping and eye out for the 1st detective chimp, and in 2023 i snagged Blue Beetle 1 in a 9.2. Trying to focus on dc 1st appearances now that are under the radar before they potentially pop

    Hi Jim,
I had a very successful collecting year 2023, myself.
My goals for this year are:
    1. Replacing some of my trade paperbacks with single issues
    2. The Adam Hughes Zatanna covers
    3. Power Girl 27 the Warren Louw cover.

I collected Asm 39-66 last year just missing 3 books. This year is like to continue that run to issue 100. I’ve already got most of my favourite books including the prowler books.

Not like collecting Marvel is cheap, but my heart goes out to DC collectors - so much rarity & cost pre-Silver age. Best of luck hunting this year, Jim!

Wow, Jim! Your goals seem so varied and yet so specific at the same time. So interesting how people collect. I am 57 and have always been a Marvel guy, for the most part. My collecting goals throughout 2023 and continuing into 2024 have been going at certain Silver and Bronze Age DC titles mainly because I've read very few of them and am curious about several characters. For Instance, I recently picked up #299-to-319 of the I, VAMPIRE HoM issues. I would like to get the complete I VAMPIRE run of that title; I know some of them are hard to track down. I picked up a lot of random Silver Age DC SHOWCASE issues; that is also a title I'd like to have as near to complete as I can acquire. I'm happy that the DC back issues seem, generally speaking, more affordable than Marvel back issues. So into 2024 I go with an eye toward bulking up my DC Comics from 60s & 70s mostly.
