Love this series! Enjoyed the video. One of your viewers commented on my video today. I actually showed Amazing Stories 1928, so they let me know that you were talking about it as well.

@@AlextheComicHoarder thanks for the kind words Alex. Yeah a 9.8 on that book is incredible.

@@bronzevillecomics2581 mine is a lowly 2.5 with Brittle pages. Haha, but I am happy to own that piece of history.

This series may be a tough sell.for some people. I'm with you. I love the education I get on videos like these. You never know, however unlikely, that you will run across one of these books and it's nice to have a reference of you ever do. Thank you for your time making this great content and I will see you at the next installment.

Those are all cool. Always love seeing Christmas covers!
    Why all the commercials?

A 9.8 pulp is unbelievable considering how low the quality of paper they used for them. Pulps are generally so brittle.

I've got a lower grade (maybe would get a 3?) raw copy of the Kellog's Buck Rogers, it's such a cool book. When you get to 1936, I'm curious to see if my copy of Famous Funnies #22 makes the list - it has a total population of 9 on the CGC census.

question would Tarzan be a comic book, or magazine from that era ?

@@jayogilvie8353 his first comic book appearance was in Tip Top Comics #1 in 1936. We’ll see if that ranks in a couple of weeks. At this point he was a regular in pulp magazines.

Publishing companies sampled their new product by distributing it to the public gratis. (I am curious to know where they were given away and if they were sponsored.) When it was apparent this new product would be popular, the magazines were sold on the stands. It would be an exciting debate to determine who the targeted audience was. Is it possible that comic books were originally intended for adults as readers of all ages enjoyed the comic pages of their local newspapers?

Story has it that M. C. Gaines came up with the format when he enjoyed reading some previous weeks / months Sunday comics. Of course, there were lots of earlier collections of strips like Bringing Up Father and Little Orphan Annie, but they were not mixes of different strips under one cover - and they were books vs. magazines.
