I was getting quite fustrated before I happened upon you quality video. Fustrated because any guitarist thats going to drop $2k on a synth guitar, better REALLY like it as a stand alone guitar. Im still waiting to hear it thru a quality valve amp, but for now your Ultra Axe worked fine. Thank you SO much Brother! You video imo is better then the official Boss Demos....kudos to you Mate! The biggest problem with something like this is the synth will become very limited when the vendor decides to stop supporting the app and the app becomes unusable on your mobile device. The reality is this is a very niche product, and without widescale adoption the risk of it becoming limited or unusable is pretty high.

      @@TheRockinDonkey I use a Boss GP-10 guitar synth, which got me into it. I joined the V Guitar Forum and learned about all of the apps you can use. If you know SampleTank, you can use it and other iOS apps with a Roland GK-3 pickup. The Fishman midi pickup is far better. Many midi guitar controllers are terrible guitars. So if the Boss guitar is decent, it’s a good investment if you want to get into V Guitar. I use a Gibson Les Paul Standard with a GK-3, but I think a Godin guitar would be better.

    This is essentially an SY-1 built into a MIJ guitar? You are spot on with blending tones on this. Imo, the SY1 benefits the most from that approach. It doesn't have the complexity of the 300 or the richness of the 1000.

    • @LeonTodd
      @LeonTodd  Год назад +1

      It definitely feels like a "concept guitar". I wonder if it's an SY1 or 200 in there, or in true Roland fashion it's something based on but not identical to them.

      Doubtful it was made by Yamaha, although wouldn’t be surprised if Yamaha and Roland did buy parts from the same Japanese manufactureres back in the day. They were big competitors back then (they were arguably the biggest 2 keyboard companies back in the 80s).

    • @Napalmdog
      @Napalmdog Год назад

      @@rebelcat420 the reasons I gave any credence to it is Roland was/is an electronic instrument builder. Logistically it seemed to me that setting up shop to build one model guitar and bass was a bit of investment and it isn't uncommon at all to find guitars built by outside manufacturers. The guitar's construction is also reminiscent to Yamaha's guitars of the time, particularly in the neck, reminding me a lot of Yamaha's SGV. But of course I can't be absolutely sure.

    I honestly wouldn't be having half as much fun without my SY-1 or SY-300! You have to do A LOT to get them sounding good, for instance, you have to use a Tube Screamer before any of the SY's to get them to articulate all the notes within a full chord properly. I even use an EHX Attack-Decay before the SY. I fear that this GS-1 makes those sorts of setups impossible. But regardless, this thing will lead the way to something incredible. Amazing guitars are coming and the price tag won't be so terrifying when it does what we never even knew we wanted. Thanks for a great demo! I'm really excited for the GS-1000 😉

    I really wish BOSS would have gone a different direction with this guitar...many guitarists play in cover bands...both Roland/ BOSS and Line 6 has done the guitar modeling thing, but no one has both guitar modeling AND amp modeling contained all in the guitar...I'd love to see them come up with the capability that the SY 1000 has in regard to just the guitar and amp modeling, with all the guitar modeling features it has like 2 octive range alternate tuning capability, 12 string capability, all the different types of very popular guitars, all the amp and floorboard effects (controlled by some type of well thought out bluetooth floorboard communicating to the guitar)...you would just load your saved presets into the guitar like you would when using the SY 1000...Like the Roland Strat that had guitar modeling in it, except this would have guitar/ amp/ speaker/ fx modeling all in the guitar...it'd be great for me if all I had to bring is my guitar and accompaning floorboard controller to gigs, preprogrammed for 100 songs or so...I will say the good thing about the SY 1000 is that you can equipt just about any guitar you really like the feel of with a GK3 or Graph Tech's hexpander board and piezo saddles, and your in there playing the guitar you really like...

Tech could only fix these this MIDI guitar. My dad told me and their tech said leaky electronic capacitors and there's 10 of them. So this is when it got weird again. This repair shop is an hours drive to this store. So when they thought it would behave I brought it back home. 5 years later, I'm showing off my MIDI guitar that I showed kids what you can play today back then and showing anthd that Floyd Ross trem was in the air since I didn't think later again the leaky electrolytic capacitors!!
    I hate saying, that guitar looks like the guitar I played once. Is there a qualified tech to look at them. Sun light trashes them. I worked outside venues in my city's in Southern California up and down. Sorry

    The problem with guitar synths is that they always sound farty and cheesy. The tones don't stand up, especially in todays synth dominated world. There are rare exceptions, but it's usually when the guitarist is playing something that resembles super simple keyboard lines. An example is Glenn Tipton using the Hamer Phantom A7 to drive a Roland GR-700 on Turbo Lover. Basically just a simple synth pad with some LFO hard sync to tempo.
    I tried for years to find a solution, but eventually just bought a real synthesizer and learned how to play it. Guitar is and always will be my main instrument, but the string to synth interface just isn't ever going to be up to par. However... the synth I've been waiting for since the early 90s has arrived! Check out the Osmose! Finally the level of expression in a keyboard that I have always loved from a guitar.

      I have found that guitar synthesis is most effective when you find a certain context to use it in. You noted Glenn Tipton. Pat Metheny continues to use an old (1979) GR-300 guitar synth for an amazing solo voice, reminiscent of a horn, and it works. He doesn't use it for anything else, and that's OK. I don't ever see guitar synths replacing a keyboard rig, but working with it, a player can find their own niche.

    @boss / @Roland
    Missed opportunities:
    1. The physical power connection should be near the jack NOT at the top.
    2. Not adding in something like a POE injector or special guitar cable that carries power to the unit. This wouldn't be terribly difficult to "Invent" (as most of the tech already exists).
    3. Price. I get that you're getting a lot for the price... but no offense, this isn't a $2100 guitar. Maybe a $1500 guitar... but $2100... you're going to have a HARD time convincing someone they shouldn't just get their "Dream" PRS, Gibson, Fender that they would want to own for the rest of their lives, versus a trick guitar.
    4. Haven't seen this covered... but a native MIDI out would've been much better to have... this way you don't have to only rely on your built in sounds which are (in comparison to something like Native Instruments)... not great.

    Considering that MIJ guitars have gone so much up in price over the last decade ( hell, Made in Indonesia guitars have gone up also), the price is not bad.
    That beeing said, most guitarplayers have not much use for the Midi-Synth stuff.
