Using the same logic: If you own an iPhone, you are literally supporting current day slavery If you own nikes, you are literally supporting active slavery. If you own a smartphone, you support cobalt strip mining and child labor/slavery. If you own an electric vehicle, you support strip mining and child labor
Just like black lives matter focusing on their peaceful protests and getting statues torn down instead of the slavery of black people that is still happening in the arab world. It's all extreme hypocrisy, delusion, and mental gymnastics.
This is the most confusing aspect of the boycott to me: why the fixation on this one game in particular? If the argument is that if your money directly or indirectly ends up in the hands of someone who has horrible opinions and/or has committed horrible acts why is this game the only thing people are mad about? Our money ends up in the hands of horrible people every day, it’s unavoidable. Even within the realm of just Harry Potter, I didn’t see this level of discourse around the theme park, or the fantastic beasts movies, or the Lego sets, or memorabilia, etc. I’m sure there was some, but no where near the amount surrounding Hogwarts Legacy and confusingly enough all those things have much more direct contribution from Rowling herself than the game. It makes the argument feel disingenuous. People don’t really believe that buying this game makes you a transphobe, they’ve been told that they should be mad about this game so they’re mad about it. So strange
@@Shad0w5carab It's because for the longest time, video games and gamers have been easy targets, their demographic stereotypically being nerds who are easy to bully and intimidate.
I've asking this around for months, to no avail. This mob is highly focused on Hogwarts, while excluding every other bigotry out there in the world of gaming, or just world. And they wonder why nobody agrees with them.
@T G Simple. The motive is not based in altruism. It's an attack wrapped in an altruistic costume. It has nothing to do with equality. It has to do with defeating YOU by controlling you and your ideals. If LGLMNOP+#÷ rights were the actual cause, there would be more outrage about homosexuals being thrown from rooftops in the middle east. How many homosexuals has hogwarts legacy burned alive?
Hey, Larry! No way, that's excellent news! Could do with some Chamber of Secrets DLC, too. Cheers for checking the video out, mate! Hope you're doing well!

What’s hilarious is how a site like Gamespot wouldn’t review the game, but still posted gameplay and tip videos so they come up in searches from the normal people playing the game because they need the money. What a brave stand.
Whats funny is they called for a boycott of the game, but not Amazon, HBO, Ebay, Barnes and Noble, Walmart, Grocery Stores, stores in general that sell Hogwarts stuff, yes their hypocrisy is stupid.
The thing is it's easier to target and attack streamers, than it is well funded companies A robber knows hitting a bank will get you lots of money, but there's massive risk involved A robber knows stealing from someone on the street is easier, as there's less risk So the boycotters are choosing the easiest of targets (streamers) because they know they have anonymity If they tried it in person (stores and amusement parks) they risk jail
Even funnier is they say it's because of JK but she didn't even work on the game from what we know. But she did write and direct the show Strike and that show has been praised by the same people saying Hogwarts Legacy is damaging.
The whole controversy actually caused me to take a closer look at Hogwarts Legacy - rather than pushing me away from the game. I ended up buying a copy of the game for both me and my daughter!
I was always going to buy it, but only a 2nd hand copy. Till these activists started doing their crybully routine. I pre-ordered the ultimate version out of spite, and am glad I did. Its a great game which I finished last night. Now just have to mop up the remaining achievements.
Same. I even bought the Deluxe edition. I usually dont pre-order games and dont buy them when they first come out, waiting for a sale. But not this time. The nonsense people write and say nowadays... Illiterate bunch lacking the braincells to read the source and see that nothing they say about Rowling is true.
It cause me to look into Rowling actual beliefs- and she's not transphobic at all. I'm still shocked at how well they've managed to convince people she is. But then again, people don't actually look into things themselves- they just believe what people tell them. It's easier.
I was always going to have a look at it, but the chatter about the game and then watching part of sometimes let’s play made me preorder rather than wait
Being a member of the LGBTQ community, I’ve noticed that when the mainstream LGBTQ community fixates on a target, their arguments are contradicting and hypocritical. It makes me sad, the LGBTQ community started with a purpose, but now it’s become a petty excuse to encourage and fuel hate. Which in turn just fuels the stereotypes and prejudices we have to face. Fighting hate with hate is not the same thing as fighting fire with fire. It just generates more hate. I’ve played and finished HwL. I was impressed with the game and its representation with all the students and professors. I plan on playing three more times to experience the other houses. This is an amazing game that I think deserves GOTY.
That's because all the real activists stopped when they got what they wanted. Now all thata left is the whiny children who want the world to cater to their every whim.
It's very sad that this amazing game is being used to create division. I support LGTQ+ People. I believe they deserve to exist, have rights and seek happiness like everyone else . I don't have the right, nor the wish, to presume to tell them how to live. Similarly I don't believe they should micromanage my life to the extent of which books I read, games I play or content I watch.
“What exactly are you so happy about?' Harry asked her. 'Oh Harry, don't you see?' Hermione breathed. 'If she(Umbridge) could have done one thing to make absolutely sure that every single person in this school will read your interview, it was banning it!” And so the Woke crowd made sure every Potterhead will know about the game, by cancelling it.
Completely agree. I've distanced myself from the LGBT community despite being part of it because I do not agree with the hate fuelling people to do this shit en masse.
This game sold 12 million copies and made $850 million in two weeks. As far as I'm concerned, it definitely has won the war. There will definitely be more Wizarding World games from here on out and I'm all here for it.

The only harm done to the trans community came from the community itself and their allies, by how they bullied, threatened and blackmailed people playing or streaming the game. If they’d just go about their way instead of waging this war, nothing would’ve happened.
The irony is…there’s a trans character in the game. She runs the Three Broomsticks and she’s a total sweetheart and a very powerful witch. It’s almost like the people who made this game aren’t entirely beholden to Rowlings beliefs. It’s her world but she wasn’t involved in developing it at all.
Half or all the Dev's do not agree with JK stance they even said that themselves just because its a wizarding world game doesnt mean it reflect JK ideology ouside of character being trans there are NPC students who are trans,Even some witches you encounter who are les thankfully this game doesnt shove it down your throat but its enough you can tolerate it and not mind it
@@muninrob which makes it even better, I just want to ask one of these people boycotting the game, in what way what so ever is any element, aspect, feature etc in the game portrayed in a transphobic nature. Better yet, if the game is so transphobic, why is there someone whose actually trans, a voice actor for it? At this point, it is people trying to make claims without anything to back it up, their desperate for everything to be their way or no way.
And if you follow Sirona's quests and actually read all of her letters you will learn of the first time she tried on a dress, how Mrs. Sprottle encouraged her, how she was treated by her peers before and after the transition. Clearly, the creators put a lot of care and love into the creation of the game.
I'm a transgender creator and I've really enjoyed this game I dont agree with people who push there agenda pretending to help others all you do is create a polarised situation I now have to navigate Thank you for this content it helps highlight the silly identity politics that only hurt my ability to quietly live my life nor not harming anyone
at the end of the day thats all any of us want to do. we just want to quietly live our lives but people wont let us by constantly pushing their agendas on those around us. i particularly love the comment a journos wrote something along lines of "if you cant give up this one piece of entertainment how can we expect you to fight for us where it really matters such as violence against us" like bro if you think theres no difference in playing a game and being physically hurt than ur clearly living in a different reality than everyone else. im a 6 ft bearded braided and tatted up modern day viking guy who loves to fight. ofc im gonna come to your rescue if i see someone hurting you, but stupid comments like that make me want to reconsider.
I cannot imagine how frustrating it must be for you to have those loudmouths on the social media claiming to represent you, your views and needs as an excuse to go after people playing a videogame.
I'm transgender (M-F) but the fuckshit that happened here was enough for me to no longer identify with the LGBTQ+ Community. They are exactly what they claim to be fighting against. I have little online presence, I don't care if I get cancelled for my views. I'm sick, I repeat, Sick and fucking tired of these folk (who I'm starting to assume aren't even trans or 'allies' themselves) If these fascists hate freedom of speech and freedom of expression so much, they can just say it. At least then I'll have some inkling of respect for their honesty.
If you truly want to avoid everything made by someone with objectionable opinions, or by people who have done wrong, you might as well throw out every game, book and movie ever made. You're also going to hell for paying taxes as you clearly support war, buying anything with a battery or chocolate means you support slavery, and throwing out food means you hate the hungry.

The treatment of JK Rowling is beyond alarming. She’s received extremely graphic death threats which go way beyond anything she’s said, yet those death threats don’t receive anywhere near the level of condemnation than JK’s comments, which I might add, are worthy discussion points.

My favorite is the reviewer who complained that the controls are too hard. I’m not a gamer by any stretch of the imagination and I was relieved by how easy the controls were to master. I’ve tried and abandoned a fair number of games because I just can’t keep the controls straight but this one was so approachable.
The fact that the game sold so well should tell you all you need to know. The majority of people don't give a shit. This game is being used a scapegoat and everyone knows it.
What’s crazy is any Harry Potter fan, especially fans of the books, would absolutely LOVE this game. It’s so incredibly rich in detail, with little Easter eggs and references from the books and movies. It’s so clear this game was made with passion and creativity, from very likely fans of the franchise themselves. The gameplay is surprisingly good too.

I've been playing the game, and TBH it's been the most diverse game I've ever played. I've encountered lgbtq characters in the game... there was a researcher who mentioned her wife. Also the Trans bar keeper, and if you pay attention to their quests you learn about their transition, such as the first time they tried on a dress. The NPCs are also very culturally diverse. You can tell the creators tried to include everyone and this a project of love.
It’s quite literally the most diverse game I’ve ever seen. To the point where it’s a bit ridiculous (did they get rid of all the foreign students by Harry’s time??)
@@AS-ri1mb Yeah. I really wonder why they decided to set it in the 1890's. Honestly it looks like your usual modern cultural box ticking exercise rather than a genuine attempt to depict a Hogwarts from a century ago.

The Wired review is pure comedic gold, but my favourite part is that bit about choosing the loved ones over an easy pay check. I can just picture all those loved ones who need to pay the bills shouting at this hypothetical dev "don't be a moron, TAKE THE JOB!!!!"
Yeah, it really reads as stupid and naive given that we're still in the aftermath of a recession and inflation is rising. People have bills to pay, mouths to feed, and things are becoming more expensive; you can't be too picky about the jobs you take. Oh, and the critic herself isn't one of Wired's usual game critics. She mostly covers SEX TOYS, coffee, and occasionally tech. The optics just read like Wired going "crap, we have to cover this. Here's your assignment [Jaina Grey]. Just get it out quickly!"
The Wired review reads like a satire. No joke. I was about 7 hours into the game and loving it so I was just curious how it was being received. I had avoided any media about it previously & it was the first result that came up and I saw that person gave it a 1/10. I was wondering if we were playing the same game. I don’t game that much anymore but it really made me question Wired as a reputable news source for anything. It was obvious the person held extreme bias.
@Allaiya not just bias, but also stupidity. You need to be moronic to give a game which is very obviously a solid 8 or 9 a 1 and hope to get away with it. Smarter outlets gave it a 7 and put all the bias in - abysmal journalism, but at least there was an effort to not be idiotic. The Wired didn't bother with that part.
I was originally turning to not buying the game due to the controversy. Then I heard about the huge bullying campaigns that were going on for those that did buy the game. I then turned heel and bought the game, it was a good choice, and I have been having fun with the game ever since.
Holy jeebus cripes that Kotaku paragraph is the most mask-off psychopathic thing I've ever heard. "I don't want to promote positivity when people are nice to me! I want everyone I see as being better than me to be torn down and ruined so that I can be the one everyone loves!" I mean holy DUCK, maybe take a second to figure out why people don't like you to begin with first. I can give you some hints.
the anti-hogwarts people at the beginning came off as bullies who are trying to tell you why you can't play with a toy in your own room. Mind blowing shit. I also lost 2 friends over this game. They weren't real friends if they got pissy about me having fun and being happy so fuck em.
Everything will be ist and phobic no matter what you do, these people cannot stroke their egos, beliving they are heroes, when all they are doing is projecting all of what they accuse people who just want to live life. Its shocking just how many good people have fallen into the trap and becone bullies themselves.
No, no, Rowling actually is Transphobic. Not "Triggered leftist snowflake"-Transphobic, actually transphobic. She allied with Malsh Walsh who wants to eradicate trans people. Ive no idea how much open she needs to show her distrust at the trans community.
I'm trans. Here's my opinion Pre ordered the game and I've really enjoyed it! I really don't agree with people pushing the idea that buying the game is giving money to a terf She gets royalties at most and is already a millionare...the money you're "funding" her with is basically pennies to her. I think the whole "don't buy HL" movement has done way more harm than good. I also noticed a lot of people in this boycott are also *not* trans and are allies The trans community is already very small as it is, we really don't need our voices drowned out by people who aren't trans telling everyone what trans people think. If you aren't fucking trans, don't speak for us. Sure a chunk of them are trans but a lot of people pushing for this aren't and they really need to stop. You don't want to buy the game because you're uncomfortable giving money to JK? Okay! That's your personal decision. You aren't entitled to make that decision for anyone else though!! And it doesn't make someone transphobic or a bad ally for buying the game!
It is both sad and funny (mostly sad though) how easily people get offended freedom of speech dies bit by bit. I remember the Doom Eternal controversy as the trailer had the line “daemon might be considered offensive term, so it is preferred to call them mortally challenged”. Damn that triggered a lot of people for no reason.
The diversity in this game is some of the best I’ve seen in recent entertainment media. Its inclusive without it feeling like a chore. Anyways the people boycotting it are really no better than the other side, just mindless bashing, complaining, and hate-fueling. There are really no thinking caps being put on when there is a target and it’s exactly the type of behavior that the hateful groups of people they’re against are built on. I am interested to know how much J.K Rowling contributed to this game though, and how much she got from it.
It’s sad because the way people are going about this is SoOo counter productive. It’s doing more harm than good by attacking people who just want to enjoy the game.
Yeah I mean I agree that trans rights are human rights but harassing people over the game is only gonna transphobic people not help the trans community and yet the fact that some are doubling down on it is fucking crazy
When you get right down to it, the "controversy" is ultimately what led me into pre-ordering the game in the first place. I really had no interest in it at first... but they just wouldn't shut up about it! I finally decided I had to watch a video of the game and see what the fuss is about. The game looked AWESOME! The more I watched, the more interested I was in the game until I pre-ordered. If they hadn't made such a big stink, I wouldn't have thought about it. So they have themselves to thank for me getting this game.
It is insane to me that people are being bullied for playing a game. It is a game! And a good game at that. I love Hogwarts Legacy and I'm not going to change my mind because of haters.
It's easy to see why these people support a boycott: virtue signaling and the exertion of power. They can suck up to the zealots that call themselves activists and feel important and righteous. All in one go. All they have to do is throw other streamers, the studio and whoever else is necessary under the bus. I've cancelled several subscriptions over this, both on YT and on Twitch. People like these make me sick.
Ironic thing.... if there hadn't been a huge, albeit awkward and wholly ineffective boycott attempt from the baffling bully activists, the big story would have been about gamers objecting to how 'woke' Hogwarts Legacy is. Buying a clearly 'woke' game is, with Hogwarts Legacy, somehow supporting anti-woke-ness. Reality is strange.
It all started out with valid concerns. ANd that's the point, whether it ends up true or not, voicing concerns is never wrong. Concerns have to be respected and talked about. And then coming to a solution or compromise is the result of that. And some points that come are not entirely wrong. Like Goblins having a racist heritage. I personally think that the fantasy goblin has long evolved past that heritage and this heritage is no longer, for decades, the reason why goblins are picked in fantasy universes for certain roles and functions. The core problem is, that we have no healthy culture of debating problems at the moment. It is either my side or your side. And if you are not fully on my side, you are the enemy. And that's the literal phrasing used. Allies and enemies. It's not people with different opinions sharing a discussion, it's enemies in a warzone. And that's just not a healthy base to have. Especially not in a humanistic and egalitarian society or one that tries to be one. It is in actuality a very dogmatic and authoritarian way to handle disagreements. Another thing is very important to note. The vast majority of the trans-community is at least just as annoyed by this whole thing than most of us are. These people pushing this ... hatred ... forward are extremists. On either side. People who now buy multiple copies of the game just to piss off trans-people are just as extreme and minboggling dumb as those people calling everyone racist / transphobe who plays the game. And we have to remember that these are relatively small groups. They are just screaming the loudest, and with how social media works, the loudest have the best chance to have their content spread the furthest. Remember, both extreme sides are idiotic. The extremists are also not helping either side. The idiots completely digging into the transphobia, buying multiple copies and hating on the trans-community are pushing non-extreme people further into the extreme opinions of the "activists" hating on the game and on people liking the game, while the extreme-"activists" are pushing otherwise moderate people into the hands of the transphobic community or into a mindset that stopped caring at all, which is just as bad. See, the main goal, equality and freedom of choice. The basic egalitarian and humanistic principles are shared by the vast majority in this debate. The vast majority agrees on this, but are now dragged into a conflict in which the simple enjoyment of a game puts you in the corner of fascists. And if you start to push people, there's a point at which people push back and stop just taking it. This whole thing is literally not helping anyone. It's making everything worse by proposing the idea that our society has to be seperated in idealistic groups that have no leniency for even the smallest deviance. This is extreme behavior. I have a friend, who is making terribly racist jokes. Not just about others, but to a great deal himself. I know that he's not a racist, not at all. He's the leftiest lefty you can find. With all humanistic and egalitarian ideals you could ever wish for. For some reason, his humor is just that way. In the eyes of these activists, he'd be a full blown racist, even though his actions and him speaking up when seeing racism in public would prove different. But actions don't matter. Only singular perception matters. Yes, singular perception. If you've at one point argued against one of these extremist-activists you'd become their enemy. Even if you agree or show sympathy with them or show them how your opinions at their core actually very much align, you are an enemy. Because your first interaction was perceived at hostile by them. And now think that further. What does this mean when it comes to criticism? Because you can criticise people you share opinions with. For example, because their methods are off or counterproductive. Or because their way of argueing is. Criticism is perceived as hostile. As opposing. As something only "the enemy" does. Because, if you're an ally, you'd agree, wouldn't you? I don't think the Soviets and Allies agreed on many things. Actually I'm quite sure of it, because after they defeated the 3rd Reich, their relationship can be summarized with two words: "Cold War" But during WW2 the political differences didn't matter, because there was a bigger threat. If they'd been busy fighting each other, while fighting the 3rd Reich, they might've lost. The point is, reaching a true egalitarian society with ideals based in humanism is so much more important than which game anyone plays. And hating on people playing the game, literally shouting and screaming at them, some of which even completely unaware of the controversy, because I was. I didn't know about it until someone was pissed at me for getting the game and enjoying it. That's when I caught on to the whole ting. Because, quite frankly, I had more important things to do, then keeping up with this. Which is funny, because I work in the social field. And a major part of my work is literally "inclusivity". To help that everybody, no matter who they are, what they identify as can feel as being part of the society and feel safe while being themselves around anyone. That's literally like one of the most important things of my job. But as it seems, that doesn't matter. Because I play the game. So now I am transphobic and racist. I wouldn't say I am. But who am I to judge myself? Anyhow, to make a long story short. It may have begun with valid concerns, but ironically it turned into a witchhunt.
@@AurianWarriorOfDarkness To express concern is always valid. As soon as we start to shut others down for simply stating concern, any form of progress or debate is pointless. So yes, it did start with valid concern. Whether that concern is objectively based in the reality is up to debate. But shutting down any expression of concern just because you don't like, turns you into an idiot. An idiots are the main source of all the problems in this whole debate.
@@VulpesChama If I may make the argument that buying multiple copies isn't all about being a transphobe because from my understanding a lot of it is with the cancel culture. It didn't matter which group found this problematic it was going to happen all the same. Look at mortal combat in the 90's for a example. Gamers in general hate being told what we can or can't do and have been blamed for anything and everything over the years. 90's: satanic (by religious mothers) 00's:violence (mainstream media) 10's: sexist (gaming media)
@@rylak3 I would agree actually. I'm not saying buying multiple copies out of spite makes anyone transphobic, I'd actually make a much simpler and more basic point here: I'd argue that it is stupid, pointless and unnecessarily pours additional oil into an already unnecessary spreading fire. This is a highly emotional and heated argument. It's not even a discussion anymore. It already boiled down to senselessly throwing insults at anyone not completely agreeing with anyone. Although the heat of the whole argument is burned out by now. Only a very few are left who still actively hate in either direction. But the one bad thing you can do in an already way too heated argument is, to make effort to actively offend someone. And that is the sole reason to buy multiple copies in this case. Not to support, but out of spite to offend "the other side" which is in most cases not even a different side. Most people actually are holding the exact same ethical values, which makes this whole thing even more pointless. What we basically disagree on, partially, are the methods on how we defend or enforce our values. The amount of actual transphobes in this whole disaster is in truth absurdly small. And yet they've gained the most of it. The active controversy in the end serves those idiots more than they ever did those who are in support of egalitarian and humanistic rights. Because they can now claim to be part of the mainstream opinion.
I got a viral video on tik tok and it rubbed some people the wrong way. I didn’t care, I thought “worst they’ll do is be mean in the comments.” But then they somehow found my address started commenting it and making fun of me for my parents marital status. One person said “that’s why your parents divorced and your dads dead.” Both things are true and this person lived in another country from me. If they’re willing to go that far for a guy on tik tok then wtf is the limit for them?
As a transgender gamer and potter head I have to say. I adore this game. I absolutely love it and it's what I wanted out of gaming in this dry spell in the world at the moment. I'm so happy this IS a legit RPG in the harry potter world and this Slytherin could not be any happier. An open world to explore. Magical creatures. Spells. Game of the year potential !
I hope it is a game of the year contender. It deserves it I am thinking about picking Ravenclaw when I buy the game soon enough, as soon as my next paycheck arrives
Preach, brother. This has firmly cemented my distaste for any games media that isn’t being produced by individual creators. That last example, I would say the guy threatening to murder someone, their family, and every teacher they ever had over a place in a line is most definitely the bigger asshole. I didn’t even having to think on it for more than a second.
This shit is absolutely bizarre. Looking in from the outside, as neither a fan of modern games or Harry Potter, all I can think is "why?" Why in the world is any of this important for any reason at all? It's all manufactured controversy, and all of this toxicity seems to be coming from one "side".
The best part is watching all of these people broadcast their opinions on why we need to boycott this game because of injustices on devices made in countries with child labor and worse labor laws than we allow here. You can’t pick and choose what ethical consumption you observe if you’re gonna call people out for it.
The people who say it's bad without even playing it are nothing short of arrogant. If you are going to pass judgement on me for liking something or playing something then you are NOT a good person. These people hate transphobic people, yet have no problem expressing the same behaviors to support their own ideologies even if they might be wrong. I don't believe in any sort of god, but I don't go out of my way to convert people into atheists. Other people's religious beliefs are not my concern. My biggest problem with the trans community is that they say gender is a choice, when for years the homosexual community have said sexuality isn't a choice. So, if you can choose your gender, why can't you choose your sexuality? Or if you can choose your sexuality, then why are people homosexuals to begin with? Either sexuality and gender aren't a choice, or both are choices. You can't have your cake and eat it too. Before anyone gets the wrong idea, I have no problem what you do in your house, in your bedroom, or your bathroom. If you're a homosexual, cool, if you're heterosexual, cool, I couldn't care either way. I also don't care if people get sex changes either. However, don't demand me to do something when I have no interest in you. Why should I or anyone else give respect to people who show none themselves? Why should I understand YOUR choice when you refuse to understand that people can make mistakes, people aren't perfect, people are allowed to have their own opinions. Forcing your personal ideologies onto others is wrong no matter what it is. "If you buy this game then you're a bad person. That's not an opinion, that's a fact." Clearly you don't know the definition of fact, otherwise you wouldn't have made such an opinionated statement. Just because you claim it's a fact doesn't make it true. This is pure arrogance, nothing more.
@@warlordofbritannia I don't blame all transfolk, just the ones who arrogantly push their personal opinions and feelings onto others. They're not the only group who do this, but it is the group that is discussed in the video. Granted, the journalists are only using them for clout purposes, but the trans people who have harassed people online aren't any better.
I'm not on Twitter so I didn't see that tweet earlier, but damn, I lost a lot of respect for John Linneman and Digital Foundry as a whole after researching them now. So unprofessional, especially John, why is that grown-ass man acting like a 14-year-old Leafy viewer?
Video game journos lost their way some time ago, going back to before gamergate you could see politics injected into their writing. As an older gamer, I have noticed that the most prominent video game sites have over the years been taken over by larger media outlets. The actual gamers that have started the sites got paid and moved on and the people now writing from them are for the most part not gamers. It's like they are putting their time in before they can move on to something better and they are writing their video game reviews to cater to the job they want to get, rather than the job they have. With youtube, twitch, and other social media platforms allowing more enthusiastic video gamers to give their two sense online people have realized that what they were getting from video game sites is trash, and people are not going there as much. The result of this is the media outlets that have taken over most of the video game sites are slashing their budgets and reducing staff and those that are left are desperate to justify their own existence and do whatever they can to generate traffic and engagement on their sites. There can be no other reason for all this insanity over a video game. Also, I find it odd that this one game is getting singled out while some of the most violent games that come out all the time get reviews based strictly on the quality of the game and at most might get a parental advisory but you are not a monster for encouraging violence from playing those games. Even Steam sells games with heavy sexual content whose characters do not project a normal or even healthy depiction of human intimacy and sexuality, yet there is no outrage in that direction. My last point may just be speculation on my part but I think a lot of trolls have latched onto this just to provide an excuse for being a troll. Sorry if I am rambling here but I cannot stand the blatant hypocrisy laid bare and it does not make me inclined to take video game journos seriously in the future and it will be their own fault as more and more of those outlets are shut down in the future.
Well, the issue is that people are becoming victims. People buy a product associated with Rowling -> Rowling makes money -> Rowling funds Anti-Trans hate-groups -> Hate-groups lobby politicians -> Politicians enact laws -> Trans people are oppressed. Now of course, Rowling through very clever marketing has amassed enough money to fund a crusade against the Vatican if she wanted to, so I doubt the money she gets from this make her in any way significantly richer, but still. No support is no support, and a little goes a long way, at least regarding one's moral conscience.
I think there will be a sequel, as the game sold 12 million copies over the course of two weeks. It showed how little influence the boycott had on people. The majority of people who brought the game had no idea that a boycott even existed, or even who JK Rowling is as well. This boycott was so poorly organised
I am pansexual and i have transgender friends. None of my friends or myself for that matter has a problem with HWL, i don't like Rowlings comments, but what does that have to do with HWL? the game has been developed together with Rowling but WB Games and Portkey had full creativity and it shows. Why the F do we have to live in a world where everyone has to think the same otherwise you become a victim of "cancel culture" the most toxic thing to hit humanity since WW2... Yes quote me on that. The way this world is heading worries me... i just like games, i like fun games, its my hobby, and no one can tell me what to like and not like based on some dude who wronged someone or told a stupid comment that i never met or know much about. I played HWL and i loved it, all of you go buy the game and see what i mean, Great video, f*** finally someone who is not afraid to call out big media from what it is, toxic BS ruining the industry
Nice to see you back, Tominator. And SCREW the Jactivists and Trans Activists who you proudly display in the beginning of your beatdown and who this beatdown is for. They've had videos like this coming ever since they began this stream of bullying for no other reason than "Author Transphobic", and this activism has done more to harm ACTUAL transgender people rather than help like they think. I really hope someone like MoistCritikal doesn't cover this video and cause it to blow up in views, because when that happened with the "Most Disliked IGN Reviews" video, the comments were instantly raided by insane Last of Us II stans ranting about how "JOEL DESERVED TO DIE!" and "ABBY IS A FANTASTIC CHARACTER" and other such nonsense, so if the same would happen here, the Activist Crybullies will come. And they WILL be venomous. I WILL play Hogwarts Legacy. Not today. Not tomorrow. But I will. Just so I can stick it to the maniacs who dare bully others over a fucking video game.
As if transfolk don't have enough to deal with, now they're being scapegoated because of a few idiot "journalists" who wanted to impotently virtue-signal. Congratulations, you played yourself!
the problem i have with it is when i see the level of stupid i start to think we really really need to enforce like a iq level to be able to breed and if we see this level of insanity bring the asylums back lol its all in joking fun but seriously this woke crowd of dumb fucks really really make you wonder if it would be an improvement if they were all in padded cells
This was a good comment until you just spoiled one of the best tv series I've started watching and the reason I stopped watching the 10 ign videos when he put SPOILER ALERT. Sorry I just hate spoilers and I yelled out when my eyes kept scanning after trying to stop
The fact that we've gotten to the point where gaming journalists are rationalizing slitting someone's throat if they don't agree with there political/personal beliefs is concerning
Someone has to make a montage vid of all these "journalists" and bullies with Mr Blue Sky over it to show how they basically just slaughtered the views and causes they claim to stand for.
I must say I really have no interest in the Harry Potter game, but it really boils my piss to see sites like IGN cry that the game is bad and we're bad for playing it - but somehow also plastering their site with hype pieces on it and raving about how great it is. They want it both ways and don't see the irony.
It's almost as if IGN (and all other game "journalism" sites) are actually part of the industry and want the games to succeed out of financial self-interest...hmmm...
Trying to appease the thier fanbase but at the same time stick daggers into this game when they can but hey you can look back and see all the times they dig into this game negative or passive agressively
Feel free to add on top of that that none of those outlets had the same fire to boycott Atomic Hearts - a game that likely was sponsored with blood money. And no, I don't urge anyone to go to the boycott city(altho that at least would be consistent), that decision should be left to the customer alone and jounalist should at most inform their readers about circumstances of development of the game. It just shows the virtue signaling happening, since none of them care as much when the problem is not in their informational bubble.
3:30 "Friends and Family that are part of Trans Community" in which i have 0, not cause i am bigot (well i am too them) but cause i only become friends with level headed actual kind but doesn't need to say it people.
Yeah, they write on twitter that she hates trans people but she said never said that. Her open letter was polite and reasonable. She takes from her own experiences as someone who needed a woman only shelter and her concerns are valid. It is well documented online how some folks with bad intentions try to stir up drama because they weren't allowed in female only spaces. If I am a woman in need of shelter from my abusive ex husband and next to me is Amy, the not transitioned 1,90 buff male looking person, how should a woman who suffered abuse feel safe with that?
Indeed. While she does view the trans community in a critical way it is by no means transphobic. She is just having a valid opinion. People These days want to be accepted but as soon as you dont agree with their world view you are a monster... so much about acceptance, eh?
After realizing that nobody who hates her could even quote the tweets in question, I looked them up. It's literally just facts and reasonable concerns. No part of what she said seemed transphobic to me in the slightest.
8:45 How TF is crossdressing transphobic?? I thought we were way, way, WAY past clothes being gender-locked. I think they're just mad that Link can pull it off better than they ever could while remaining masculine. XD

Hogwarts Legacy is more inclusive and kinder than most of the people boycotting it.
For real though 🤣
What isn't?
All of this has taught me that the most transphobic people are trans people.
Bitterness after getting the very real shit beaten out of you for being a queer will do that to a person.

Using the same logic:
If you own an iPhone, you are literally supporting current day slavery
If you own nikes, you are literally supporting active slavery.
So strange

The thing is it's easier to target and attack streamers, than it is well funded companies
A robber knows hitting a bank will get you lots of money, but there's massive risk involved
A robber knows stealing from someone on the street is easier, as there's less risk
So the boycotters are choosing the easiest of targets (streamers) because they know they have anonymity

The whole controversy actually caused me to take a closer look at Hogwarts Legacy - rather than pushing me away from the game. I ended up buying a copy of the game for both me and my daughter!
Did you enjoy the game?
'If she(Umbridge) could have done one thing to make absolutely sure that every single person in this school will read your interview, it was banning it!”
And so the Woke crowd made sure every Potterhead will know about the game, by cancelling it.
Completely agree. I've distanced myself from the LGBT community despite being part of it because I do not agree with the hate fuelling people to do this shit en masse.
Sadly, I doubt this game would even be ALLOWED to be eligible for GOTY

The irony is…there’s a trans character in the game. She runs the Three Broomsticks and she’s a total sweetheart and a very powerful witch. It’s almost like the people who made this game aren’t entirely beholden to Rowlings beliefs. It’s her world but she wasn’t involved in developing it at all.

Yeah I see this is one of the faults in human beings even the average ones that have morals they think that they're all good in life but just existing means that other things have to die for you to be alive that only works in a world where things are living for you to be alive trees have to be cut down products have to be made that pump pollution out into the atmosphere the phone you have created by slave labor the slaves parents don't choose to move out of their country which keeps their children in slavery it's disgusting how people think that they're perfect just because you have morals doesn't mean your morals are correct it's good to follow them but you shouldn't take them to an extreme

My favorite is the reviewer who complained that the controls are too hard. I’m not a gamer by any stretch of the imagination and I was relieved by how easy the controls were to master. I’ve tried and abandoned a fair number of games because I just can’t keep the controls straight but this one was so approachable.
We live in a doomed society.
Amazing video. I love seeing this hypocrisy being called out and pushed back against!

There is also the blind character. Who somehow learned to use their wand to see to some degree
@@AS-ri1mb Really? Try playing Elder Scrolls Online. It has actual diversity, not just a few shallow characters who could easily be dropped or replaced. What we saw in Hogwarts was, as Lone Wolf says, box ticking.
@@Allaiya. When the entire game review is filled with nothing but rants about something else like 'politics', you knew something is wrong.

Ah yes the entire LGBT community boycotted this game, nice braindead comment.
I was originally turning to not buying the game due to the controversy. Then I heard about the huge bullying campaigns that were going on for those that did buy the game. I then turned heel and bought the game, it was a good choice, and I have been having fun with the game ever since.

And ladies and gentlemen Hogwarts lagacy is best no.1 selling game of 2023. 15+ million sold and still counting.
the anti-hogwarts people at the beginning came off as bullies who are trying to tell you why you can't play with a toy in your own room.
I'm trans. Here's my opinion
Pre ordered the game and I've really enjoyed it! I really don't agree with people pushing the idea that buying the game is giving money to a terf
She gets royalties at most and is already a millionare...the money you're "funding" her with is basically pennies to her.
I think the whole "don't buy HL" movement has done way more harm than good. I also noticed a lot of people in this boycott are also *not* trans and are allies
The trans community is already very small as it is, we really don't need our voices drowned out by people who aren't trans telling everyone what trans people think.
2024 checking in.
This game made around 1 billion dollars by the way.

It's pretty good, even though it has some flaws. Try it :)

The media in general, not just the gaming media is absolutely unhinged. It's only a matter of time until it all comes crashing down.
It never started out with valid concerns that was the wolf in sheeps clothing to validate thier illogical bullshit
90's: satanic (by religious mothers)
00's:violence (mainstream media)
10's: sexist (gaming media)
@@rylak3 I would agree actually. I'm not saying buying multiple copies out of spite makes anyone transphobic, I'd actually make a much simpler and more basic point here:
I'd argue that it is stupid, pointless and unnecessarily pours additional oil into an already unnecessary spreading fire.

Best selling game of 2023. Guess that boycott really worked.
So sick of identity politics and cancel culture trolls.
That's not an opinion, that's a fact."

There are bigger things than what you feel, as JK said, plus it is just a game. No one should get billed for that. People like to be victims.

Amazing game. I probably have 30-40 hours into it. I don’t want it to end.
I wasn't transphobic...until now.
The ones questioning the ethics of gaming journalists were correct after all.
JK Rowling said nothing wrong, the haters are just misinterpreting her words.
"If you buy hogwarts legacy, you sre contributing to transphobia" damn you don't need to promote the game to me this hard
8:45 How TF is crossdressing transphobic?? I thought we were way, way, WAY past clothes being gender-locked. I think they're just mad that Link can pull it off better than they ever could while remaining masculine. XD
holy crap man... these reviews and articles are actually wild... these people are far.. far from reality its actually scary how unhinged some of the writers are.
2:30 It DID have an impact on how the game would sell. It boosted sales.
No one should bend over to these crazy people. As expected the game is a success and on it’s way to becoming the next big gaming franchise.
Wow what a pathetic world we live in😢
wtf?
I just felt so much of my IQ disappear when you started reading the Vice review....didnt think I could lose any more....then you started reading the Kotaku one....I am now completly braindead....
