China's economy is now almost eight times bigger than Russia's and supplies key strategic items like micro-electronics and machine tools to Moscow. The likelihood of that happening is quite low and if that actually happens it will be one of the biggest geopolitical blunder of US. India is America's most crucial chess piece against China. If they want to keep suppressing China from being the second superpower who is poised to go head to head with US, they will most definitely need India's help.
