This is the 2021 KTM 1290 Super Adventure S review
Adventure bikes now account for 25% percentage of all new motorcycles sold in the UK, appealing to the masses of riders jumping off of sports bikes and onto machines with long travel comfort, performance, and refinement. We’ve all heard the term “stack it high and sell them cheap”… and the jewel in BMW’s crown is their ability to stack GS1250’s up high and sell them expensive! But stealing it is no mean feat and KTM have thrown everything behind their very own jewel heist and created something special - This isn’t Adventure - This is Super Adventure!
The KTM 1290 Super Adventure S is a mind boggling motorcycle, on 1 hand it’s a long distance armchair of a bike that you could ride round the world on, in the other hand it’s a road going sports bike hunter and then it’s also a Supermoto wheelie machine. The way the bike adapts its ability to master a given type of riding and then shift to another polar opposite discipline is not only incredible, it defies all impressions, logic and physics simultaneously.
We took the KTM Super Adventure on some of the best roads in the Lake District where the Knox HQ is located and then on some of the beautiful trails that we have too! The 1290 Super Adventure S lapped up everything that we could throw at it and is a seriously impressive contender for the Adventure crown!

Hope everyone enjoyed our review on the Super Adventure S! While we try our best to get everything right, sometimes we miss something or make a mistake, particularly on a bike that has so much tech! Turns out that the Adaptive Cruise Control will not work when in Rally mode due to the rear brake being required to control the ACC... So not actually an error on the bike, but a lack of understanding on our part. Anyway, fantastic bike and thoroughly enjoyed our time with it! All the best, Aaron Knox

Nice video. I've put about 6,000 km on mine and the more I ride it the better I like it.
It's true with what's on the market now days, I don't understand the appeal to buying a supersport or cruiser. These adventure bikes do BOTH extremely well. I never see myself getting out of this segment.
Like your style ,get mine soon can't wait have had the 2008 Adventure 990 S from new done 90000 klms on road and a LOT off road, and ill hang to it for its ability off road and its lunacy , cant wait.

This motorcycle will be my next KTM 1290SAS!
Since October 2021 I am riding the 2018 model ( white-orange livery)..
No electronic glitches so far and after 4 years in service, probably none will arise in the near future 👍the quickshifter+ is one of the best options installed😀
However, downshifting without (..) using the clutch , is ( even after some practice with varying speeds) no easy feat!
Therefore, I wasn’t surprised to see you using the clutch likewise😉 before starting another beautiful wheelie , you use the clutch, change gears and off you go…
After your review, two things comes to my mind:
A new model in 2023 and a trip to the 🇬🇧 to initiate this wonderful piece of machinery
the mix needs to be sorted - the background music is a bit too much foreground

The one thing I don't like about the BMW is the weird looking sideways engine that sticks out, I'd be afraid that if I crashed the bike the engine would be the first thing to break. Can't bring myself to buy one. This one though, it may be my next bike! Those electrical glitches though, I'd get a new one for sure so I could use the warranty.

Exact bike I’m looking for a great all-rounder. Sport bike, tourer, and a off-road bike. Fast as hell on the road, won’t hurt you back after an hour, and you can hit dirt trails. Wanted a s1000xr til I started researching this. It’s an ADV bike that’s also fast as hell on the road.
Great review! For now happy with my modified 2019 SAS. A Boosterplug, Powerparts Ergo seat, offset risers and a few more changes, have made it into something much closer to the new one. So close I am in no hurry to trade it in. But when the time comes then I know where to turn. Knew that before I saw your video (have test ridden it and will concur :) Every manufacturer have issues. I'm confident software updates will fix bugs. Beemers and others battle with these also.

There some miserable people about, who dwell on the negatives, my 1290 arrives on Friday and looking forward to it .
Have almost 10.000km on this model and did 35000+ on previous…. No problems whatsoever re reliability. Yes, VERY sometimes the electronics do not initiate as expected but is always solved by shutting the engine down, count till 10 & restart.

KTM really needs to fix the electronic bugs, been like this for many years unfortunately.. Both my 1090 had some and then my -17 1290 SAS also.. Thats what "pushed me over the edge" to go to BMW 1250 GS.. The BMW feels more of a finnished product and no electric bug at all... I know some have had a few problems with BMW also but for myy personal experience there has been nothing.. I was actually looking to go back to KTM with this years model but i will have to reconsider after all the reports on electric problems....

Stock seat leaves much to be desired. Not had any electrical gremlins after 1100 miles of rain.
Super Adventure S or Norden 901?

Totally discount your negative views.. I have owned 6 KTM’s and never an issue with any electronics or other issues.
Not in north american market......buy the things that i can touch. Buy other brands unless i can buy it.😣😣😣😣😣

KTM Super Adventure sucks! In 2021, among many other bikes, I thoroughly tested Ducati Multistrada V4 S and new KTM 1290 Super Adventure S, including taking them both to their top speeds, and a lot of high speed riding. Multistrada V4 is AWESOME: it's fast, very stable and maneuverable at any speeds, with great handling, comfortable, versatile, you name it. 1290 SA S, on the other hand, is completely the opposite. In short, 2021 KTM 1290 Super Adventure S is uncomfortable: bad sitting position with cramped legs, harsh seat, engine vibrations at any rpm, bad screen with poor wind protection and a lot of buffeting. Super Adventure is slow: it's ~20 km/h slower than it's direct competitor Multistrada V4 on the top speed, also KTM really starves on power above 200 km/h. But hands down the worst feature of this bike is how horribly unstable it is above 200 km/h - it's wobbles permanently. And that's in the bone stock form without any boxes - so I'm afraid to even think about how badly KTM will wobble with boxes. Yes, besides everything else, I also covered ~ 72 km in ~ 20 and a half minutes on the 1290 SA S (I'll release the footage later), but that's all thanks to my riding skills and experience. I was permanently struggling with KTM through the entire ride. It's a widow maker bike for sure - on this bike anyone can get killed at any moment because of the quirks of Super Adventure.
This bike also has it's strong sides like awesome suspensions, unbelievably smooth and precise gearbox, and good dashboard. But downsides (mentioned above) of this bike outweighs it's upsides by many times. That's why KTM 1290 Super Adventure S is really bad bike overall. It's good for nothing. Unlike the Ducati Multistrada V4 - which is good for almost everything.
P.S. Just for clarification: I tested not one but two 2021 KTM 1290 Super Adventure S. Took the bikes from different dealers at different days. And they both behaved identical. So don't even try saying something inline with: "Hurr-durr, should've fix the bike before testing" - both bikes had no mechanical issues at all, and both was working as intended by manufacturer. All the riding issues mentioned above is caused solely by the design and engineering flaws of the Super Adventure - not something else.
Too big, too heavy and too expensive…just like my GSA😉, looks cheap with acres of plastic, going for a mid range ‘adventure’ bike next time, as apparently are many buyers.

What is the point of having, on an "adventure" bike, gazillion horse power, having a machine so expensive you would cry if you dropped it, so heavy you wouldn't pick it up yourself? Take it around the world? yeah, good luck sleeping at night in Brazil thinking if it's stolen already. They are just a bike version of SUV's and range rovers to be ridden on OECD roads only
