Heating element on my v3 went recently, apparently a known issue with the sealing of the element. Machine purchased in 2012. Changed out element in boiler and now back up running. Absolute tank
Fitting a PID has made the biggest improvement to my 2005 V2 Silvia. Just wonder why i didn't do it sooner🤔. My Rocky might get get replaced with a Eureka Oro Libra AP next.
Great video! Hi Pete. I have a question. After each brew, there is a mark left in the middle of the coffee puck by the screw head. You know the screw head for the shower screen is quite tall. When I lock the handle in place, this causes some difficulty. I used 16g of beans. I wonder if this is normal.
I think its normal to get the bolt imprint depending on dose, to different degrees, and - for good or bad, Im not sure there is a LOT of info saying it a bad thing, - you can get a different bolt/screen and remove that concern , or even a bigger dosage basket so you dont have to pack it so full - lots of options good luck Pete
I have a Silvia too and struggle to get decent shots, I think it's my lack of tasting understanding and also possibly too cool brew temp but I know I rattle through a lot of coffee trying to get a shot I like 😕
I put my PID'ded Silvia V3 into storage after years of disappointing shots. Turns out, I was the problem, not the machine. I recently pulled it out of storage, did a bit of restoration, and have begun to relearn how to properly make espresso on it. I was going to sell it and get a Flair Pro manual lever, but like you, I'm having so much fun trying to figure out the mysteries of this machine that I'm going to stick with it for now. Thanks for your help, Pete -- I just ordered a new basket.
Pete, please try IMS H24. It's exactly the basket you need with the same convex shape & 18g capacity without having too much head space on top. I have H26 & there was a big hollow space between the puck & the shower screen. As I don't have a dimmer, it was too hard to control the flow & I had sloppy, disintegrated puck & fast shots which I couldn't go finer. In my view, H28 is way too big for a 18g puck. You can try putting 20g but 24H is my goto basket these days with HU burrs.
I use 18g La Marzocco basket which is non polished version of VST 18g. Also Umikot coffee distributor. Rancilio countersink shower and puck screen which takes The remaining space
hello my friend , i have a question please, did you ever try to use an ims nanotech coating shower screen? i read that the chemical detergent destroyes this coating , can you please answer me?
Im just not a nano coating guy, - thats just me, Im not sure enough on how it can really help to offset the potential issues - ?? it does seem like the coating can be 'removed' and Im not sure about how our if it impacts when using a coated basket, and / or - the potential of ingesting >? I just dont know enough about it to have good advice or opinion - , good luck - Pete
