Hugo, thank you! Yes, we are going to Coimbra in 2 weeks for a short stay, and that is in our list. Perhaps we will make a video! Do you have any other recommendations?
@@theharriman5 the university you have to go. There's the aeminium ruins below the university really cool for kids and adults to see. Downtown you can visit the Arco de Almedina and the amanzing Santa Cruz Café. Try to eat at the renovated Mercado municipal D. Pedro V. If you're driving i recomend the roman village off Coninbriga or the chist villages off Cerdeira or Talasnal in Lousã.
Thanks for the reaction. I'm so proud of my country and yes, big differences from Montana, for sure. You will love Madeira also. Have a great time there. Cheers. Just have fun, kids🙌
@@theharriman5 I hope you visit the north of Portugal as well. I think you will be surprised with the people, food and natural beauty. Enjoy Madeira, it is a real gem
@@theharriman5 Yes, Porto is often mentioned as "capital" of northen Portugal. The Porto metropolitan area is the 2nd largest in Portugal, and there are evident diferences between Porto and Lisbon. In my opinion, Porto is considered a bit less mediterranean with a bit more of British influence and a "industrial vibe". It has a great history and the name of Portugal comes from this city. There are plenty of interesting places to see here. Please Make a check list, Im glad to help if you need 😊
if you like Portuguese bread and if you're going to Porto after Madeira, then you should definitely get a roasted pork sandwich with Serra cheese at Casa Guedes (the sandwich is called Sandes de Pernil com Queijo da Serra in Portuguese). And of course, you should also try Francesinha. Enjoy!
We are currently in Porto. We have had the francesinha... it was a unique experience. Per your recommendation, we will visit Casa Guedes for the pork sandwich. Thank you!
If you were coming back and had 1 month to explore across portugal. For a couple and a 7-year old with a car, what itinerary would do? We've never been but are interested in a getting a feel for the entire country without wearing down our 7-year old. I get that in Lisbon a car is not necessary a plus but what if we want to explore the entire coast? Thanks guys
What was your highlight on the trip!?!? That the kids really enjoyed. We're traveling FIRST time with our 4 year old boy and 2 year old girl..... im super anxious.
Hey Jose, We had many highlights. The really neat thing - to us - was the abundance of city parks. They're everywhere and they're really very clean with great little cafes located inside most of them. The zoo and aquarium were really fun, too. If you get a chance to head to Sintra (an hour's train ride), I think the 4-year-old would likely enjoy the Moorish Castle that's there. I have plenty of other thoughts, too, so if you have specific questions about the area, please let drop a comment. We were in Portugal for 3 months, and I'd like to think we have a fairly good grip on it, now.
Just found your vlog! very nice and thank you for showing you can travel with a large family. Had a question, since it seems you packed pretty light. What kind of camera are you using to make these vlogs? The color is amazing. Thank you!
Hey Joel! Thanks for watching and thank you for your question. Yes, family travel is totally doable (and surprisingly enjoyable), even with young kids. For all of my photos, I'm using the Fuji XT30 with their 18-55 "kit" lens. I put "kit" in quotes because it's not like most manufacturers' kit lenses. The 18-55 is a pretty incredible, compact lens. It takes amazing photos and is a really good video lens, too. I could go on and on about various lenses, but suffice it to say that if you want a compact, versatile video camera that also takes amazing photos, the XT30 should be high on your list. That said, a lot of people don't love the Fuji's autofocus, which isn't the greatest in the world. It's good enough for me, though! The size/weight of the XT30 makes it a dream to hike/backpack/travel with. Also, about 15% of the video is done with my Samsung Galaxy S20, because sometimes I don't want to look like a tourist. ;)
I must add that my wife makes a lot of things look easy. She is one of the most organized people I know, which helps ensure very few "surprises" pop up during our travel. That said, traveling as a family is absolutely doable - even if you're not married to a cyborg. I can't stress this part enough: Kids and families live wherever you're planning to go. Therefore it's unlikely that you'll forget anything that can't be found where you're going. It's also unlikely you'll go anywhere that doesn't do a reasonably good job of trying to be at least somewhat accommodating with families with small kids. Kids are like a golden ticket, LOL! Where are you guys planning to go?
Hi Sonia, we loved the AirBnB we stayed in. It was small, but conveniently located and the host was such a wonderful woman. Do a google search for "saywhatlisbon airbnb" and it'll come up. If you're worried about your kids climbing ladders, however, this may not be the place for your family.
If that were the entire list, I'd understand your comment. However, we weren't saying that people should travel to Lisbon just to go to a zoo, aquarium, and parks. Also, most parks in metropolitan areas in the US tend to be fairly gross (exceptions apply).
Thank you for your visit, Harrimans. Safe travels !
You have to visit Portugal dos pequeninos in Coimbra. The kids will love it.
