I have both although only had PMR since October of 2022. I’m just starting to feel I may recover now. I’m weaning off of prednisone but still taking methotrexate injections. It’s been very debilitating. I simply woke up one morning and literally had to roll out of bed as I couldn’t use my arms. I had great difficulty walking. It’s still painful to walk but better than it was initially. I likely have GCA as well as my vision has deteriorated a lot since this illness and I get terrible headaches. I’ll speak to my rheumatologist about it. Thanks for this informative video.

I had a swollen painful knee at 57 had mri and dr said it was a small tear (knee previously operated on when I was younger).but nothing bad. I did pt for several months and the knee got better and hasn’t come Back. I then started feeling sore in my shoulders which I thought was because I was overusing them during the knee pain. They didn’t get better. Was referred to rheumatologist. Did all the bloods etc. rh factor negative. Did the prednisone for two years tapered too fast as I didn’t want to be on it though it did help at higher dose but also have osteopenia in hip on last bone scan. We decided to come off the pred. My family history shows possibly an aunt with RA but not confirmed. My rheumatologist thinks it’s still possible it could be RA and/or inflammatory arthritis and/or pmr. About 2 years prior to all this my dog pulled my down some stairs and broke my right shoulder. I don’t know if that means anything. Rhumatologist has me taking low dose plaquenil. I’m afraid of the other drugs as the side effects scare me. Here’s my dilemma. Nothing has changed in 4 years. I’m 61 now. My small joints are fine. I occasionally get wrist pain but because of my shoulders I tend to smash up my hands to get comfortable when I sleep. If I wear a brace for a night or two it goes right away. No swelling no warmth. I have no fatigue, no headaches, I mostly feel better first thing in the morning not worse and there are days where my shoulders are killing me and lately more days where they feel pretty good. Occasionally I’ll have slight hip stiffness but nothing to speak of. I also noticed if I don’t eat for a day I’m pretty pain free. I didn’t have Covid. I had the shots but that was after my dx. The only trigger I can think of was possibly a flu shot? When my pain is high I’ll take one or two ibuprofen which takes away the pain and I can get at least two days of relief from just two Advil taken once. I have no fatigue no flu like symptoms none of what you explained in the video other than what i mentioned. So what the heck is this?? Pmr? RA? Both? Neither?

Can pmr just affect one side. Like my wife has all these pmr symptoms ad a disease called tak. But left side hurts bad. Left shoulder. Left hip. Shows enthisisis on mri or hip. Haven’t had shoulder one yet. Rheum dismissive as crp fine but on azathprine and actemra

Yes. I have both. You do recover from PMR but it can be active for 3-5 years. It’s often triggered by a virus. Mine was after a case of Covid-19. I’m starting to improve after fifteen months. Mayo clinic has a great support group for PMR online.
