Great tips! As to the ball toss, I have modified my grip to grasp the ball only with the thumb and index finger, and to extend the other three out of their way. This means I have to simultaneously release only two of my five fingers, for better timing and reduced ball spin. I also find that the two finger grip helps me to maintain the "coke can lift" that you demonstrate in your toss drill, for a slow and relaxed lift driven by the shoulder muscles alone. Thanks.
jacksonlar thanks for taking the time to watch... I really like the sound of your ball toss modification, sounds like another great way to improve the consistency, I’ll try that out tomorrow!!💪
Watched it again. Damn I can’t believe I forgot some of your most excellent tips!!! Semi final tomorrow and I’m gonna remember! Thanks so much! Ps: I just got my new 2023 Head Gravity Pro!!! Wow, what an awesome racket!
Brilliant video 👍 One of the best I have seen on this subject. Straightforward instructions. Very helpful for any player level. I like your smooth voice tone too, it allows me to concentrate better on your demos. I have some problems on my serve too. So if you do not mind I will send you a video link...? Keep it up 👍👍💪
The Tennis Mentor as I was watching I was thinking you really sound like someone, realised you sound like an online guitar instructor - from Chichester 😂😂
@@TheTennisMentor it sounds so familiar and yet I just cannot place it. It sounds maybe Devon or Cornwall with a tinge of South African maybe or maybe living abroad but then you are very well spoken without sounding posh. Maybe military father?! Travelled. You are not lazy with your t’s and you pronounce your consonants. The accent isn’t heavy and you are quite deliberate with an even metre when you speak so I imagine you are well educated or just in instructional mode. Almost an English speaking international school abroad. Let’s face it not many people play tennis on the estates so maybe that’s a clue at least somewhere with good weather yet you aren’t that conventional either. Privately educated people often rely on their networks and push them front and centre in their work but you seem oddly singular self motivated and independently driven so that is usually a trait of a more middle class driven background and not someone who comes from money. All speculation of course but your accent reminds me of someone or something very particular and it’s a real conundrum. Sorry if it all seems quite random and the extrapolation seems a little personal. Thx best Ken
@@KenFlanagan wow Ken… I wasn’t expecting such a detailed response but I love it!! I have grown up in and around Portsmouth with parents from Kent and Sussex. I was not privately educated, but loved school. My parents had multiple jobs to support me and my 4 brothers. I’d consider myself an introvert until I’m on a tennis court with a racquet in my hand and not natural on camera which is why you see a lack of conversation and empty courts around me (as that’s when I try to film!) I’m impressed with your analysis, are you a psychologist or something similar??
@@TheTennisMentor wow thanks for that and I guess that does makes sense. Thanks for sharing that. I have worked in documentaries for a quite a while now and maybe that’s why I am slightly obsessed with identity and how we read people on camera with so little to go on. I guess we are all incredibly reliant on pattern reading and when certain patterns chime then we often aren’t aware consciously why that is. Especially when we extrapolate so much from so little. Anyway thanks so much for sharing and keep up the excellent work on your channel. Best K
@@TheTennisMentor Thanks! i am playing with Wilson clash tour and wanna try the Speed Pro. There are lots of good reviews of that racket. Watching your match against Clarke right now. A great channel. Greetings from Moscow
Yes definitely worth a try if you can... rackets are a personal thing so I always suggest demoing the racket before buying! Thanks Andrej, glad you’re enjoying the channel!
You’re right... This was one of my early videos, before I had any clue about audio! It’s a shame I can’t go back to fix it! I’ll have to make a new version 😁
Such a great video and tips! You can tell you truly love to teach and you have worked with a lot of students! Thank you for taking the time to put this out there..especially love the self criticism on your own video bent elbow 😜 My biggest struggle has been consistency and rhythm but I’m on to something now that seems like going back to basics and keeping very minimal approach to serve.
Here’s what I’m talking about..simply placing ball in easy spot and hitting it, all one motion. My thought is to gradually toss with straighter arm and get a bit higher with more shoulder turn load. ruclips.net/video/FnQ9_jxg1j8/видео.html
Thanks for taking the time to watch it! I just watched your serve and it’s looking good... the basics are the most important thing to get right, so sometimes, stripping the technique back is a great way to move forward. Just in case you didn’t know... your target is over that net to your left 😜😁 Good luck, keep it up!
Thanks for feedback, agreed! This was one of my old videos, as soon as I watched it back I bought some new audio equipment! Hopefully you’ll hear an improvement if you watch my more recent content!!
I’m going to watch these again. And possibly again. And again. Thanks so much for your most excellent videos on the serve
It’s my pleasure!! This one was one of my early ones!😁
Perfect. Simple and direct
Thank you!

I know it's hard to explain serve... but you are really good :) And also the clay-court makes me exciting...
Tennis Coach Cody in Phoenix thanks Cody 😊
Thank you very much for the explanations and awesome content
My pleasure!
I wish there was a RUclips video when I played in high school. I could have used these tips, immensely! My serve was the weakest link to my game.
It’s never too late to improve!! 👊

Best accent in RUclips tennis content.
😂😂😂 I’ll take that! From the biggest and best in the RUclips tennis game!!
Ian Westermann it’s all about geography (he’s 3miles from my parents 😁)
Simon Underwood 😂 it’s a small world!
The Tennis Mentor as I was watching I was thinking you really sound like someone, realised you sound like an online guitar instructor - from Chichester 😂😂
Simon Underwood haha funny!! I was born in Hastings and grew up in Portsmouth... Chichester sits in the middle!
Super excellent. Thanks so much
Another great video 👍
Thanks a lot Paul!
Great tips thanks! 10:18 sounded like it hurt though :D
Merci Awesome video
No problem, thanks for watching!!
All perfect for me, save 2 fingers tip imho

That’s interesting! Before I tell you, where would you guess?

This video Is impressive!!!! Thank you for your advice!!!!!!!!!!

Great video! Been trying to improve my serve and these are awesome tips! Thank you!

holding with the fingertip will cause the ball to spin. you need to keep the ball inside the pocket just to let it go...
