Fallout 76 Tips & Tricks - Building A Floating CAMP (no stairs/floors) - Beginners Spaceship Guide

  • I've had a few requests to post a video on how I did my spaceship builds. This is it! It demonstrates some of the basic concepts and knowledge needed to do a floating build using nothing but walls and roof pieces. No stairs or floors are required. It does not cover some of the more advanced tricks I've learned, so if there is interest in that let me know in the comments!

      You probably know this now, but you can hook the flamethrower to a generator instead of having it stand alone so it doesn’t get destroyed, saving materials.

    I don't play 76 but I still watched this entire video. I enjoy seeing the workarounds, build order, and thought process in action. Is that flame trap trick widely known in 76? I don't watch a ton of 76 vids but I do watch a few here and there and I've never seen it.
    I was curious what you would be able to build in 4. After looking at your channel I see you do have some interesting 4 stuff I need to check out. Not sure how I missed those all this time as I've consumed a lot of 4 building content over the years.
    You've almost got me wanting to try building in 76. That flame trap looks like it could open up possibilities that are not even possible in 4 such as walls completely intersecting each other at right angles or other "rug glitch" like things on structural items.
    Nice work!

      Hi and thanks for commenting :) The flamethrower trick has been around as long as FO76 has been around as far as I know, but for some reason doesn't seem to be widely known. FO4 is a whole different situation though since I can build pretty much anything I can dream up, and using mods like Place Everywhere and a couple custom mods I have no restrictions on what I can build other than my own imagination and the game assets.
      I have a number of my builds uploaded to nexusmods as blueprints for Fallout 4 that others can use if they have the Transfer Settlements mod (by CDante). You can find all my publicly released builds by searching nexusmods for my username PhasedTM, but here's an example of one of my later builds: www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/33489

    I don't know if I fully like your way of building floating camps without using the stairs because you can't have any proper flooring..
    I mean don't get me wrong, I hate the stairs that you have to use with the floating stair glitch but at least it's possible to connect floors to them. And I like having my floors because I have all these different indoor carpets, tiles, wooden laminate and such unlocked and they make really nice additions to the interior of a ship just as they would any other camp. That being said, I can still see myself using some of these tricks here for the creation of thruster ports on the back side of my ships atleast.
    Normally what I do is use the corner roof pieces to create thruster ports on the underside of the ship with simple lighting on the rear of the ship.. Your way looks much more elegant and like an actual ship's thrusters so I do like that.
    I think for the best possible ship layout overall would be to use both methods of creating floating platforms so it's you can have proper flooring for the various rooms/compartments and such in your ship like the cockpit, galley, crew quarters, etc and then use roofing the way you've shown for engine room, storage, thrusters, workshops basically anything with an industrial feel to it. So it can look badass inside and out.

    • @PhasedTM
      @PhasedTM  4 года назад +2

      Actually, I agree with you - I have all the atom shop floors unlocked and would like to use them in this type of build. As you mentioned, it "could" be done using a combination of the floating stairs and these tricks - the only sticking point for me is the steel posts on the stairs. I suppose we could attempt to convert those into some sort of landing gear? I have been planning a build on this concept actually and may have found a way to get floors under the floating stairs. We'll see though :)

      Phased TM Bethesda made a huge mess really, the middle man in this is doing the same thing you’ve done in your video but twice, do the wall and roof, then build up from ground to that roof and place a half wall then delete everything under the half wall and then delete the roof and now you have a floating roof (also when you make these videos I don’t think you mentioned that you shouldn’t move your camp because when you do and try to place it, it says “can’t place floating items”)

    Would you ever consider building a ship in someone's camp on commission? :D

    • @PhasedTM
      @PhasedTM  2 года назад

      That's way harder than it sounds ... depends on if you're on PC or not for one. Would not be able to use any Atom shop or scoreboard stuff in the build though you could swap things later in some cases. And then there's the small issue of time. Some of my builds took literally weeks to nail down the design. That's a lot of potential scheduling conflicts, not to mention I stopped playing FO76 a couple months ago ... I may get back into it at some point but kinda got tired of the same ol' same ol' BS happening in the game and the bugs that have existing since launch and the fact they keep making it harder and harder to build cool stuff.

    • @GrimGearheart
      @GrimGearheart 2 года назад

      @@PhasedTM I am on PC, PC master race. You can skip decorations, I'll decorate. I just can't wrap my head around the building/frame part of it. As far as design, I'd actually like to recreate an existing ship, which isn't too complex. It's called a VT-49 Decimator. I've kind of picked a spot and started laying down foundations roughly in the shape of it. Would really like to fit 2 or 3 stories inside if possible? Take a look and let me know what you think.

    • @GrimGearheart
      @GrimGearheart 2 года назад

      @@PhasedTM Also, the wings on the ship can be re-designed to fit some space in them? Maybe like a mini star destroyer shape?

    • @PhasedTM
      @PhasedTM  2 года назад

      @@GrimGearheart I looked at the ship you mentioned ... there are parts that just won't translate to FO76 unfortunately, like the pointed wing tips in the front, the octagonal cockpit ... and building the domed section is doable but then the ship would be too massive for the camp build zone I think. The slopes and angles just don't match up with the building pieces we have access to in game. Having it 2-3 stories isn't too difficult, but with the building pieces we have it would not really end up looking like that ship.
      Have you looked at any of my other videos btw? My Salvage/scavenger ship is about as big as you're going to get in the space of the buildzone unless you are using FO Worlds ... which seems kinda pointless if you actually play the game and want to make progress.

    Could you do the same concept of this build but using upper floors or no?

    • @PhasedTM
      @PhasedTM  4 года назад

      Good question. In a sense yes, but the demo is to show folks how to have a 100% floating build without using stairs. It also shows the basics needed if you wanted to build a round structure like I did with my UFO camp ( UFO camp: ruclips.net/video/x4uL_fTq1Y0/видео.html ). You need to use stairs to use floors - no other way around it that I've found (yet). If you do build a camp using stairs/floors, floating round structures are extremely hard to do and you need a lot of stairs that go nowhere to pull it off (I've experimented with this before).
      You can certainly do a build mixing the two techniques, but you definitely need to plan ahead or you won't be able to snap things where you want if you already have a set of stairs in the way - they do not get destroyed by the flamethrower. This is true of a lot of walls too - they do not get totally destroyed by the flamethrower. Full walls for example leave behind the frames if you destroy them which will prevent intersecting with another wall most of the time.

      I stopped playing FO76 months ago, but in the comments below I already acknowledged Bethesda broke this method. When I last played there was still a way to do it that took a bit more effort and planning, but I don't really have any plans to go back and check to see if it still works. They kept making it harder, more time consuming and annoying to build cool stuff in the game world so I just stopped. The worlds feature sucked in my opinion since you couldn't progress in the seasons ... I hear they plan to or already have changed this slightly, but still no plans to go back at the moment.
