    The best part about suda games, especially this one. Is you get to look into the mind of the creator at full length. His oddities and passion all come full force. It sucks that as usual most reviewers just dump it under the bus and call it boring. But of course it's the same kinda people who review call of duty and fortnite and give it a 9/10.

    I really enjoyed this game, especially the writing. If this game was just the text adventure I would have arguably loved it even more. The gameplay didn’t do it for me though. Without the spectacle of the of doing shadow steps or wrestling moves, it made many segments wear out their welcome fast. I’ve never played Hotline Miami and it’s never really appealed to me. The fighting felt like just a roadblock to the dialogue bits I really wanted. Though this game is something cool because it’s the game that Suda wanted to make, and I could feel his enthusiasm through the game. I’m glad Travis and Mondo got to meet. I always thought Travis (or some analog to him if there were legal issues) should have been a secret Boss in Killer is Dead. Great vid.

    I watched through your older reviews of the KTP games--I love running into anyone who really appreciates Suda's older works. And whenever I do, I always have to ask what your favorite is--with some caveats (I'd do it on ask FM if there wasn't a character limit). Usually I classify core Kill The Past games as Silver Case, FSR, and 25th Ward, with Killer 7 being more of a side-story, and Twilight/Moonlight Syndrome being too inaccessible. Though now I guess there's Travis Strikes Again, too ... It is way more related to the core three, possibly more so than FSR, but I'm not entirely sure about it. Anyway, of the core three, how do you rank them? Where does Travis Strikes Again rank if it's included? What do you consider to be the "core" of Kill The Past?
    (Apologies if you've answered any of these before, I'm going to be working through the backlog of your other vids for a while :b)

    • @thorhighheels
      @thorhighheels  5 лет назад +1

      I think my favorite is the 25th Ward. That game's style and tone and characters REALLY resonated with me. I guess I could say the same for FSR or Silver Case, but those both had some pretty tedious gameplay which held them back for me some what. As for Travis, I'm not sure if it is a kill the past game, but it certainly felt like one, more so then the actual No More Heroes games did. It's definitely up there with my favorite Suda games, as my favorite aspect of his games is always the writing, which this game had plenty of.
      As for what I consider the "core" of kill the past, I'd say that it's a certain dark tone. Kinda like how I describe in this video. That tone isn't really there in NMH or Killer is Dead, but it's present in anything from Moonlight Syndrome to FSR. Also put the moon in everything lol.

    I love the Y2K aesthetic. I think it's all part of this 'the past was better' vibe the entirety of culture seems to be going through right now. I had no clue what the YIIK game was until I youtubed it for reviews. Man, that game is cringy. I completely thought the postmodern RPG subtitle was what others had put in their video description, but no, that's its actual title. Yep. The writing is cringy af from what I've seen but so is some of the criticism of it. Makes me think of the Sonic dynamic that you raised well in your Sonic Advance Review. Cringy cringy cringy. I love that word. Maybe that's the thing culture is going through right now. Anyway, I love it, I'll always love it, and I love FFVIII. Esthar is like the ultimate Y2K city. The whole thing looks like it's made out of iMacs!
    Anyway, I'm finally commenting on this video just now, but watched it ages ago when you first of all uploaded it, and am trying to remember all what you said. So sorry if this seems long and off topic! For me No More Heroes 1 and 2 got more credit than they deserved, whereas Suda's earlier and lesser-known works that you mentioned are better and more innovative, IMO (the one's I've played, anyway). Still, he has a range of styles and tones, which is to his credit, and Travis seems like a good fit for Smash, as I'm sure many have said. Folk have taken to him more than, say Sumio Mondo, Mask de Smith, or the likes. But those interfaces in Travis Strikes Again do look funky. I'd totally buy this if I had a Switch. Hopefully it'll come to other formats. Thanks for the vid!

It does it so much that it ends up taking away from the overal creepy/surreal tone the game sets up and its a shame cause its a huge blemish on a otherwise interesting game. l

    Watching these videos almost makes me want to bring back my shitty Jontron-ripoff review channel from like 5 years ago just so "Dutch Loser Talks About Weeb Shit" can become a sub-genre.

    I'm hitting a wall where I want to appreciate Suda's style but can't stand the crappy gameplay. Like, I was stoked to play Killer 7 when it came out on steam, only to immediately dislike the controls. What can I do?
