"Luckily I worship the Lantern King, which is not one of the core deities." Oh honey, the big reveal is the death of one of the Core 20, but that doesn't mean other deities are safe. A single death does not a war (of immortals) make.

@@KingOogaTonTonIt has been explicitly stated that whilst only 1 core deity is going to die, there will be several more deities to die among the non-core. Now, it's unstated non-core deities will die, but it has been comfirmed fellow Eldest Shyka will survive. Whether that boosts or lessens the Lantern King's chances is unclear.
I think they confirmed specifically that at least one orc God will die, but don't qoute me
@@Lordwakawaka and we do know Arazni will become a Core 20. Good going for the Herald that was abandoned by Aroden and humiliated before her own forces. I REALLY want to see some interaction between her and Iomedae.

2:50 Minor correction! Whilst Arazni used to be a demi-god, she ascended to true-deity status after the events of the Tyrants Grasp AP and has been one for the duration of her depiction in PF2. The notable thing which is happening is that she'll be joining the core 20 (as like, someone has to join. Core 19 just sounds wrong), and given the art of her on the cover of Divine Mysteries, presumably gets un-undead'd.
Playing in an undead campaign, I love that each of us was able to worship someone without double up and they weren't just God of death, God of blood, God of murder.... they all have well thought out positions on life and unlife.
P.s. my skeleton is a follower of Arazni
My top two predictions are:
1) Torag will NOT die, but is gonna straight up end somebody, because "Mercy" is not part of his code.
2) Erastil is going to die because Paizo writers love killing off married characters and Erastil is the only married core deity.
If Cayden, Sarenrae, Desna or Shelyn dies, I'm rioting in front of paizo offices
All of them are alive and present in Starfinder, hundreds of years in the future.
Except Shelyn, her fate is unknown as devs neve fully explained it beyond "she's traveling."
That can easily be retconned.
However, Erastil/Nethys/Urgathoa are also up on the chopping block as they're no longer available by the time of Starfinder.

I just love how paizo made that whole "War of the immortal" a reverse clueod game, where you know someone kicks the bucket, but you don't know who and you start to collect hints
and the new deity book is probally the secret of magic remaster, as SoM contain a list of all deities and some magic
now the player core already take the magic part, so it would fit, that it will take the deity part to the remaster and add new stuff probally
ah … mythic … for when you want eveyone to do twice the prep work for the same result with a slightly different feel
My pick is Asmodeus. This will leave a large power vacuum in the pantheon, it will free Cheliax to forge a new destiny, and will free Paizo from a character heavily associated with WotC. Asmodeus is a very active god in DnD forgotten realms. Yes I know it is not a name controlled by WotC but paizo has dumped dark elves and other creatures that are public domain because of their strong association with DnD.
They announced yesterday that Asmodeus is not dying, but indicated in a what if that if Asmodeus DID die, his brother would come back to life and potentially be an even bigger threat because he would be willing to release Rovagug to restart from scratch if things don't go his way.
Edit: it seems Paizo is not worried about OGL in this aspect.

There was a lot of cool stuff there but I just wanna point out that Yivali says she used the word "defenestrate" so much after learning it that her academic advisors had to tell her to limit it to once per page. Once per page was the compromise!

My bet is on Asmodeus.
Edit: reason, even if he's not OGL, its an overlap with DnD. I could see this changing to differentiate Pathfinder from DnD even more
You know, that really makes sense.
But it feels like it kinda removes the whole risk of asmodeus releasing rovagug for whatever reason... (cause you know, hes supposedly the only one who could open th e lock?)
Idk, Im quite a pathfinder novice.
My money is also on Asmodeus but because I think of all the Core goods he’s the one who makes the setting more interesting by dyeing than living. It means Chiliax is in chaos, the 8 archdevils and probably several other demigods are fighting for who controls the throne of the 9 hells, and Rovagug’s key is in play. Also he’s a monster so people won’t be upset in the way they would be if it were Shalin or Caeden.
It has been stated that the death is not connected to the OGL, but I agree that killing Asmodeus would be interesting for Cheliax and Rovagug. I could also see them killing someone who people are more indifferent about, but where the consequences are a bigger shakeup than one might think at first glance, like Abadar, Erastil, or Torag.
Well, Asmodeus is safe now so it seems Paizo is not worried about that connection.
If a diety is in starfinder, I have high doubts they will die.
Iomadae, Sarenrae, Pharasma, Cayden, Desna. should all be fine.
I'm most worried that it is shelyn.
They've said that Starfinder and Pathfinder have separate continuities, and this kind of scenario is one of the main reasons why, I think. The Starfinder and Pathfinder teams are separate, and it gives both teams a lot more freedom if they don't need to confirm exactly to a decision one made several years ago.
In fact Luis Loza has directly said Starfinder status does not guarantee safety.
If somehow it's Shelyn, I'll ignore it and IMPU none of this will have happened. The end.

I cant say this got me excited. Dnd has had mystra die 3 times? and the lore is a mess. Getting OGL gods out of there is a thing i guess but didnt we already have a dead god oh humanity? the first time a god dies its mindblowing and the second time its just tuesday.
I favour the terry pratchet small gods idea that a gods power is based on the number of worshippers so gods cannot die but if all their worshippers do they are reduced to whispers in the wind and have to lead someone in the wilderness dying of starvation to a stream and eatable mushrooms and hope that they become their prophet and provide a second comming for the god and this time they will be worshipped forever and ever surely
The death of Aroden is THE major defining event for the setting: Creating the Eye of Abendego, opening the World Wound, plunging Cheliax into a civil war that led to the Asmodeus-backed Thrune regime, and, biggest of all, ending prophecy. When another major deity dies, consequences of similar scope are to be expected and that's exciting!
I never knew that Sir Terry came up with that idea! One of my favorite newer writers (Kevin Hearne) has that same concept in his books.
Well, Asmodeus was announced as safe yesterday so it is not an OGL thing, this is different from Aroden's death because if I remember correctly the god of humanity died 1000 years ago as part of Golarion's backstory so this is the first proper godly death the we will witness in pathfinder, and Paizo went out of their way to say that there will not be any bait and switch or "technically they died" thing like dnd did with Mystra.
Pharasma will survive so who cares? 😁
Never been fond of Golarion's deities. Or at least the idea that you can become a god or be a god and die. They're not gods so much as really powerful monsters.
That's exactly what an Athiest on Golarion thinks, it's included in the lore.
as an Atheist i think all the gods deserve to die, now i don't know all of the gods but i belive all the Evil and Neutral gods will survive, i think out of all the gods, Cayden, Desna, Erastil, and Shelyn are the most likely ones to die. i want to say Iomedae will die since she's the Paladin God and she might sacrifice her self but i think from a writing stand point that since Iomedae took over from Aroden is relatively recent from a world and lore point wive i don't believe they want to kill her of.
It won't be Sarenrae, Desna, or Shelyn because that invokes the Bury Your Gays trope, and we can't have that. Which is unfortunate because Shelyn has the most insufferable worshippers and I want to laugh at their pain.
Ok Zon-Kuthon.
Any of them dying wouldn't be a bury your gays trope. Killing one out of the plenty of LGBTQ characters Paizo has put out doesn't qualify for that... If anything, since the sun will explode, Sarenrae has the most chances of dying.
It would be interesting if Zon-kuthon died and Shelyn goes to war tying in with starfinder announcing the existence of Zon-Shelyn.
I hope it's the Joan of Arc look-alike paladin one. Shes the least original of the core ones.
