I was at Home Depot to purchase a chandelier for my dining room, a smaller one in same pattern for my kitchen and a pendant light. Spent lots of time looking through inventory and then decided on two chandeliers on the top shelf. An associate got them down for me. I was told at the register that the two chandeliers were no longer supposed to be in inventory and should have been sent “back”. I was told, it is Home Depot policy to sell the items, if selected by a customer, for one penny each since it was their error. Two chandeliers for a total of 2 pennies. We now look for dusty items on the top shelf 😁

Each Store contains about 35,000 different products for your home or garden. The stores are around 650 feet (200 meters) in length by about 165 feet (50 meters ) in depth.

You kill me, Adam! I work at Home Depot. We can get you a smart range--just sold one to a customer this week. He knew exactly the one he wanted when he came in--I didn't know they made smart ranges. We were joking about him being too lazy to get off the couch to adjust the temp in the oven. "Why get up when I can just do it with my phone?" With the Labor Day sale we were running, it didn't even cost any more than a non-smart range.

If it was the one with the controls in front, then he was smart to get the smart stove.
The controls unlock if the power goes out, and for some stupid reason, they didn't consider that the controls must be manually relocked or locked with your smartphone.
I get notice when my power goes out, and when it comes back on, I can then lock the controls from wherever I am.
Although I don't have cats, the horror stories of cats stepping on the controls turning on the stove top. That's how fires start. And how children and animals get hurt.
I will choose more wisely next time. But no one, not even the manufacturer, warns you of this danger.

The 24-pack was paper towels, used to clean up messes around the kitchen. Toilet paper come in 60+ package rolls. The orange fridge is a Samsung Bespoke. It also has the smart screen. My wife wanted one, because it is not just orange. You can change the panels and have just about any color you want. We ordered one. We waited for over a year. After having paid in full for the new fridge and it never delivering, we went back to Lowes (another store exactly like Home Depot) and they had cancelled our order. Without telling us or refunding the money they just cancelled it. I was not happy. We did get our money back but the same fridge had gone up by a $1000.

There is a sign on them, "Employees only" for safety reasons. Usually, the very top shelves are for storage of excess items. Coffee rub. You use it on BBQ. Basically it is just a rub that also has some large coffee grounds in it. The larger profile of the coffee grounds on the meat picks up far more smoke than pepper corns or salt or whatever. The flow of the smoke over the meat is slowed down by the rub, the meat itself sweats, which mixes with the rub creating bark, and then the meat draws the juice back into itself. Rinse/repeat over and over and over again during a 6-12 hour smoke, and that is what flavors the meat and bark. Also, the coffee will give you a darker bark color. Smoking all that time removes any coffee flavor. Just tastes smokey.

    • @AC-ni4gt

That sounds divine. The aromatics of the coffee along with its natural bitterness works as an amazing seasoning or flavoring.

I was the guy stocking those shelves once upon a time. Though that was at Lowe's, which is a direct competitor for Home Depot and setup pretty similarly. The stocking wasn't that bad; the big headache was when corporate wanted to rearrange everything so you had to move all the inventory and reset the shelving in multiple aisles.
You may want to check out another video for one of these American home/hardware stores. They barely scratched the surface in this one. There's whole sections for lumber, paint, home decor, seasonal items, lawn care, and even a massive garden area outside. But if you're looking for other American "big box" places like this, as others have mentioned Costco or Sam's (the Walmart equivalent to Costco) would definitely be strong contenders.

  • @asmoduce

Details for the modern big box hardware store, from my wife(a ten year vet of the Depot's main competitor, Lowe's) Staffing, on average-125 to 150(including cashiers). They covered about a quarter of the overall floor space and 2 departments. The Garden Center, is giant attached "greenhouse" style section, just for live plants\landscaping related items(and generally the size of what they showed in the video). There are all kinds of powered cargo movers, everything from standard forklift, to stand up, small footprint three wheeled lifts, for accessing the mid and higher level shelves. Post "the virus of unidentified origin" year, staffing is about HALF what it should be, creating a ridiculously high stress, high turnover environment in all of the big box stores like this. Sadly, the stereotype of "go away Mr. employee, I know more than you" is much closer to reality now.

I tell it when you take stuff out and when you press a button it tells you what you need to buy. Seems silly to me but for some it might be helpful I guess.

The workers access the upper shelves with an automatic lift (similar to the ones you find the road engineers , electrical workers, and firefighters use).Customers are not authorized to use them. That tour barely scratched the surface. There are many isles devoted to paint, including several top brands, color matching to samples. And then at one end is the lumber department. Outside is a nursery section where you buy plants from petunias to trees, plus every possible thing you can imagine for gardening. And the delicate house plants are in a special enclosed area.
There is an amazing hardware section and a section where they sell power and some hand tools. Many building contractors arrive every morning at 8 to pick up the lumber for everything from a small remodel to material for a full size building. Oh, and the electrical section. There is a whole aisle devoted to nuts, bolts, screws and fasteners of all types. Next to that are locks, and all kinds of door hardware from utilitarian to luxury.
Gosh, want to set up automatic watering and drip irrigation? There is a whole aisle devoted to that, right next to another isle with every possible pipe and connector made. The lamps and lighting fixture covers four aisles. Want a fence? There's a section for that. Want to do a brick or concrete project? There's an aisle for that, and another for the tools and large hardware for that.
Want to remodel your kitchen. In the home appliance area, there's a desk where you can select the style you want and arrange to have it installed. And there is a section for seasonal stuff. Lighted artificial trees, decorations, displays for your lawn, lights, etc, at Christmas. Right now it's filled with halloween decorations--big now in USA.
And they have the cleanest bathrooms of any business. I'm leaving a lot out. And believe it or not, just across the street from our Home Depot is Lowes, which is similar, but tuned more for women. Home Depot is a guy place. Oh yeah, there are at least five more Home Depots in our region, withing a 15 mile circle.

Home Depot is just a great store to walk around in. It has a particular smell about it. My favorite time to go is really early in the spring when the weather is just starting to warm up and they have the garden center open with a bunch of flowers. That smell of fresh topsoil and mulch really helps make it feel like winter is finally officially over with and the best weather is ahead. Or when you walk around the lumber section and smell that sawdust in the air. Mmmm mmmm. Great place to walk around with -- unless you need help finding something. Good luck finding someone that can actually help because the funny thing about Home Depot is that when you DON'T need help then an employee will find you and ask if you need help. If you do need help then there's not an employee within a hundred yards. I think the employees target shoppers when it comes to assistance. They go after those that look like they are 100% sure of what they want/where it is and that way they can tell their boss they tried to do their job while they can then relax and not have to do anything for a bit.

I know it seems that a lot of American stuff is over the top, but I think we've got some different issues. You need a lot of batteries because the weather can take out the power and you need them for your lights. If you live where there's bad winter weather (like where I live in Wisconsin), you buy a lot of toilet tissue and paper towels so that you have them all winter. No one wants to go out in 2 feet of snow to get toilet paper. Also, people often do a big shop once a month or once a quarter. People don't come in every week to get 24 rolls of toilet paper.
And, even though I live by myself and have one of those big double door fridges, I still have another fridge in the garage. And she probably didn't notice, but the fridges beep when the temp goes down - like if you leave the door open. 'Murica.

My grill is near my back door so it's easy. Lots of people pull their grill just slightly in the garage and leave the big door open when it's raining and grill away. My son just had a block party in his neighborhood and a few people brought their grills out front and everyone made food and the entire neighborhood cooked out and ate together. It's a fun time. List of big(in size) stores: 1, Home Depot and Lowes (you can build an entire house bottom to top with either one of these); Bass Pro Shop and Cabela's Hunting (these are for great outdoor adventures- camping, hunting, fishing, hiking, and more), Dick's Sporting Goods, Big 5 Sporting (these also provide outdoor adventure but mainly concentrate more on other sports like golf, football, soccer, baseball, etc); HEB(Texas), Super Targets and Target, Walmart Supercenters, Costco, Sam'sClub and Menards (these provide grocery, clothing, pharmacy, office supply, electronics and more) ; Best Buy (electronics, appliances, and more. I could go on, but....

This is just one of three home improvements stores we have (at least in the southeast). The major competitor to Home Depot is Lowes which is just as large and in most cases the two stores are usually within 5 miles of each other. The other competitor, on a much smaller level (about a quarter the size of both home depot and lowes) is Ace Hardware.

This is a lifesaver during Halloween. Since we get about a thousand kids that night, we build scary/fun decorations, like a pirate ship coming out of the front of the house. That's a lot of lumber, nails, fabric (like drop cloths for paint), etc. They do now see fully-formed Halloween decorations, like 15ft skeletons, but we prefer to make our stuff from scratch, even if it doesn't look as "professional" as the pre-made stuff does.

Judging from the size of the package and the proximity to the detergents, those are paper towels and not toilet paper.
So, naw, I don't do a lot of wiping with them.
    LOL
Mom actually brought me one of those gigantic battery packs from CostCo and there was just zero chance of using them that fast. Everything takes AAA now, so 45 AA's was just not going to go down well.
Half of them corroded or exploded and I just threw the whole thing away.
My fridge came with my apartment, it's a normal single door with the freezer on top. Because the freezer is what generates the cold and the fridge has air vents that I can open and close to make it warmer or colder. Although I never really bother changing it.

When Bernie Marcus and Arthur Blank opened the first few Home Depots, they couldn't afford to stock all of the top shelves. So they asked one of their vendors to supply them with empty boxes to fill all of the overhead shelves. Slowly, they were able to start ordering more product, to replace the empty boxes. They went on to become the largest home improvement business in our country.

"I need that for the three days we have sun." Mate, that's a year round tool for the production of good eats. Come visit Maine where you will find plenty of people who shovel snow from around their grills/smokers to use them even in the depths of winter. There was a long heritage of winter ice fishing here, and smoking has long been a preservation method. You can find similar heritages in places like Norway and Finland, where it's just normal to be stoking smoke houses through the cold months.

Also, I have a French door fridge with the freezer drawer. Very useful. We built our house and basically spared no expense as we bought land on the water and it was our dream land.
We also built it so we can stay if someone has an illness or injury and needs accessible living and for when we are eventually elderly and need ease in living.
We have Home Depot in Canada btw.

Home Depot is gigantic true, but it is not only a retail store. Professional building contractors buy their materials from there as well. That is why Home Depot has anything and everything for a home build. That way it is a one stop shop for the contractor which cuts down on delivery cost. When I worked for an apartment management company, our maintenance staff would buy the items needed to flip an apartment for the next tenant. Everything from paint to a new stove. We also bought safety equipment like rain gear for our crew to wear while picking up the grounds on rainy days. It is really an amazing store.

Coffee rub on your steak is delicious. You don’t taste the coffee flavor but you get a beautiful sear and the juices really flow when you cut through that first piece. I love a coffee rub so you should really give it a try. It doesn’t have to be a fancy package store-bought seasoning. I will take fresh ground coffee, mix in a little pepper and salt and then rub that all over the outside of the meat to seal it. So good!

We have a smart oven/stove top. Honestly, the only thing I've used the smart options for was to mess with the kids. I would set the timer on it when we were not even home. The timer would go off for no apparent reason (to the kids) and would freak them out. They would turn the timer off, I would set it again! Took them awhile to figure it out! It was a great laugh though!

The range I have is a glass top , it has Wi-Fi , that is the only thing that I don’t like about it, whenever we get a thunderstorm, the Wi-Fi on the control panel turns off and locks the whole control panel, so I can’t use the oven, until we lose power for at least two hours and the Wi-Fi will come back on ,when we get power off, I’m lucky that the Wi-Fi didn’t lose power when I had food in the oven.

You can see someone dragging an orange ladder at 3:47. Those are for getting to the top of the shelves. They also have forklifts and cherry pickers for bigger jobs.
All of these are for employees only. Customers need to ask for help.
Because of this, the high shelves just have more of the same as the lower shelves.
