This area of Appalachia is and was rather isolated and poor. Dolly bought an old amusement park and built an amazing business to provide jobs for friends, family, and others in this area. Over the decades it has become an amazing place. In honor of her dad, who never learned to read, she started sending beautiful hard backed children's books to children from birth until age 5 in the mountain community. It expanded to include all of Tennessee. Outside of this area, other places have started tying into this. It isn't available everywhere...but in many areas, including Canada, Australia, and the UK. You can sign up in the hospital when you have a baby. Many immigrant parents have used these books...reading to their children to learn English. Only Amazon purchases more books from publishers. She has, free of charge, put books in homes that had none. It is one of the most amazing use of wealth I have ever seen. As an East Tennessean who remembers the poverty of the area 7 decades ago, what she has accomplished for her community is inspiring.
Because of Dollys success she has attracted more business to the area of Sevierville, Tenn. like a huge Buc-ees, and other shops have sprung up everywhere. On the downside, traffic has definitely changed for the area, but employment opportunities are the upside to better make the ends meet.
Technically she didn’t buy it. “Silver Dollar City Tennessee” was doing fairly well. Then the owners saw an interview where Dolly said she would love to eventually build a Disneyland type place near her birthplace in Gatlinburg. SDC knew that competing with her would be economical suicide, so they approached her about a partnership
I have a season pass to Dollywood! A few interesting tidbits: - Inside the park and easy to miss is a small, two room cabin - a recreation of the home she grew up in with her parents and 11 siblings. - In addition to the rides, there's a bunch of shows, and all of them are usually culturally linked to the area and its history. - Adjacent to the main park is a water park, Dollywood's Splash Country. They add a new ride every couple years, alternating between the main park and the water park. - After Halloween, the park shuts down for a week to decorate for Christmas, including wrapping the whole place in more than 6 million lights. - The roaming banjo player ("Stinky Pete") is named Apple Jack, and he's based on a man she knew in her childhood.
Dollywood is very much a theme park like disney world except its in Tennessee. the surrounding area is Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg are those touristy mountain resort towns with ziplines rides, go-karts, mini golf and other attractions to enjoy while visiting the Smoky Mountains. Dolly Parton is a Tennessee treasure.

Oh yes I hope you can go. I only live three hours away so I've been more times than I can count. It's such a great park I stared going there as a kid when it was silver dollar city. There's lots of hotels though you don't have to stay at the dolly resort it's kinda pricey
Yes Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg and Sevierville Tennessee, is definitely an all American experience. It's a tourist location in the Smoky Mountains. It's themed like southern country living. Cowboys old country farms amazing wild life. I've gone every year for 20 yrs on a family vacation. There are 10 of us. My parents, brother's and their families, my son and I. Their is so much you can do there. Amazing southern foods and country music. Love it there and I highly recommend visiting there.❤
Rides at amusement parks have full time staff to work on them. They are super safe. Much better than carnivals where they rush to put them up and take them down.
Dolly Pardon is an American Treasure.. When the Smokey Mountains caught fire.. She gave each displaced local a huge amount of money for 6 months to get them back on their feed... She gives away a huge amount of books every year.. she provides a lot of jobs to locals.. She has a really big heart and is a true treasure... No other celebrity comes close to her... She also has a water park. I have only been to these parks And she has a third, wild west type show.. I think its a dinner and a show.

Amen! When I first came to the US, I used to go to an American diner and they used to give a complimentary monkey bread with Apple butter. Amazing stuff.
I think he meant regular popcorn in the UK and Europe. Apparently, the standard flavors are either sweet and salty and just salted. They don't really do buttered popcorn.
Disneyland is in Orange County, California, opened in 1955. Walt Disney World is in Florida, 1971. They are entertainment resort complexes, as is Dollywood, the original park was opened in 1966, and became Dollywood in 1986.

Thurs, You need to google Dolly Parton. She is and has been a very famous country music star. She has this park in Pigeon Forge Tennessee and it is high quality entertainment. This park is located at the foot of the Great Smokey Mountains which you cannot see in this video because the weather is bad. It is a magical town and the mountains are beautiful. Come to the US and I will rent a log cabin in the woods foro you to stay in. Also Dolly is very generous about giving her money away to good causes. Her most recognized effort is giving free books to small children learning to read.
Dolly Parton used her unparalleled ability to improve the lives of others. Everything she does also benefits others. She does well by doing good. Just one example, she has given away over 200 million books to children. And the books she gives away are new books that kids want to read.
Dolly Parton is one of the few famous people who I would love to meet and just sit a spell with, I bet the conversation would be amazing. I have a shirt that says what would dolly do?
12:02 It's wood and metal. Metal I-Box track over a wooden support structure, curtesy of Rocky Mountain Construction one of the best roller coaster manufacturing companies. Born ‘n raised here, never heard of it either until last Christmas when Dollywood was featured on a Christmas movie on The Hallmark Channel. The theme park is beautifully decorated for Christmas.
DollyWood is near Knoxville TN in Pigeon Forge TN. So they went from Memphis to Nashville to Dollywood which is 680 KM and still in the same state. Basically like driving London to Edinburgh
@@cherylflam3250 Not sure what you point is. TN is not even one of teh largest state yet this dive is nearly the entre N - S length of eh UK. You posting just to be a shit stirrer?
Dollywood is a theme park that is themed after Country Music Star & Legend, Dolly Parton. She got her start way back in the late 1950s, but really made it big in the 70s and 80s. She's one of the original Country Music stars. But a late comer from that era. Like I said, she really didn't get big until the 70s and 80s. Her most famous hit is "9 to 5" about a typical work day in corporate America. She established Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, TN in the late 70s, and I went there around the time of its opening in '79. It was no where near what it is today. In fact, I'm not even sure it's in the exact same place as it was then. They may have moved it since its inception. Pigeon Forge was featured in one of those "Unique Towns" videos where it talked about all those Go-Cart Tracks. But aside from that, it's a bit like a Mini-Vegas for the Appalachias. Nestled at the base of the Great Smokey Mountain National Park, it has become a popular destination for vacationers in the Eastern US. It's the most visited National Park in the US because it's centrally located on the Eastern side of the country. If you go one thru Pigeon Forge into the mountains a bit, you run into Gatlinburg, TN which is even more touristy, but in a different way. Gatlinburg is kinda decked out like a Bavarian Village. And it's just lined with shops and entertainment venues. When I was there in '79 and '84, there were Arcades there. Doubt they are there now, as arcades are obsolete for the most part, right? But anyway, this whole area is a nice place to go for some entertainment and nature seeing. One of our most favorite destinations back when i was growing up. My mother had a friend from our home town who had a second house in Gatlinburg, so we'd try to time our visit to when she's be there as well. Fun times. I was always interested as my mom's friend who had a pretty attractive daughter. 😅 But she was quite a bit older than I was. By perhaps 10 years maybe. Not sure... She had a unique name too... Teela. Like He-Man's main squeeze. 😂
The Kettle Corn has a slight sugarly glaze on it that gives it a slight crunch, but it still just melts in your mouth. And like the Jolly boys, you do kinda get tired of it after a while, which is probably why they gave their bucket away. It's like, "Yeah, I've had enough..."
I watched the original video yesterday and was thinking at the time that it would be so fun to see Lav Luka's reaction to this. Here it is today, and you did not disappoint! 👏 Hoping you continue to feel better and that pesky cough moves along.
The park started out as a Silver Dollar City, Dolly bought into it and owns about 25% of the park. The contract built into it growth in the park, building a regular number of new rides and coasters. They use her name for branding purposes. She did not build the park to supply jobs in the area. The Smoky Mountain National Park brings in 12-14 million per year. Pigeon Forge, Sevierville, and Gatlinburg are very busy tourist destinations in this area, and believe me, there are more jobs than people. Dollywood itself employs about 4000. I worked there for two years, loved it, but moved too far for the commute.
I live 35 miles from Dollywood in Knoxville Tennessee. I go to Dollywood every December to see the more than 6 million Christmas lights in the park. BTW, Dollywood is in East Tennessee near North Carolina and Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Get better my friend. A lot of people here are sick as well.
Disneyland is in California and the first Disney park. Disney World is in Florida and the largest park. I'm not one for riding roller coasters either but if I'm riding, I'm in the front row. I've ridden rides in the middle and towards the back and they are rougher rides than being in the front two rows.
I live 2 hours from Dollywood. The theme park in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee attracts around 3 million guests every year. In 2024, Dollywood was named the No. 1 theme park in the country by the National Amusement Park Historical Association and Tripadvisor.
Dollywood is 75% owned by Herschend Family Entertainment and 25% owned by Dolly. They mainly just pay her to put her name on it. The sister park is Silver Dollar City in Branson, MO. Yes, that is a real, full size, steam engine. Not sure where or when it was built, but I am sure they will tell you at the station. Lightning Rod is a Rocky Mountain Construction Topper Track coaster. It is a Hybrid because it is not all wood.
Dolly is wonderful. She has this program where gives a way books to kids from birth to 5 years old. She really ants to encourage literacy. Her program is called the ‘Imagination Library’ and it gives away 2 million books A MOMTH. That’s amazing!
I went to Dollywood a few times as a teenager back in the late 1990's, it was great back then and apparently it's only gotten better as the years have passed. Definitely like a Disney-style park, tons of rides, themed areas, lots of food, shows, you name it. If you ever decide to come to Tennessee, you should head to Pigeon Forge and go there!
Kettle corn is amazing bro! The key to enjoying roller coasters is to realize that they're very safe. Nowadays when people get hurt or worse, its because they jumped a fence and got themselves smoked by the passing coaster. There's a reason you're not supposed to go under there, but occasionally people think they're indestructible. So yeah, just don't go into restricted areas and you're good! Once you get cruising there's no time to be afraid, it's just zooming along like you're flying. If you ever feel brave enough to tackle them, go with friends and start on something small. BTW, those loops aren't bad at all. They look like they would be but it's surprisingly easy to handle. (I'm afraid of heights so the worst part for me is the first hill, where you're climbing slowly and have time to process)
I absolutely LOVE the gigantic swing ride (labeled as some plane ride) I rode it 7 times in a row... You could literally take a nap on it... Felt like a baby in a swing again lol
Somehow we lucked out here in Ohio with both King's Island _and_ Cedar Point. I haven't been to KI yet, as it's hard to get my friends to go there instead. (we're up by Toledo) It looks pretty frickin' sweet, though!
Dollywood is in Gatlinburg Tennessee and is owned by Dolly Parton a famouse country and western singer who is probably one of the kindest generous person in the world. There were wild fires a few years ago in Gatlinburg which destroyed a large part of Garlinburg but somehow spared dollywood. Dolly gave every homeowner in Gatlinburg that lost their home a substantial amount of money to rebuild because she felt it was the right thing to do.
Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg alone are amazing places to vacation, and Dollywood is always a have to. I absolutely love it up there! You have to take a trip for sure! I live exactly between Nashville and Pigeon Forge where Dollywood is and there's no shortage of amazing food, people, and the most unbelievable, beautiful views of nature that will take your breath the whole entire way. Hope you get a chance to visit some day 😊
I can't do the rides either, Thurston. I've been on one roller coaster in my life, and it was a mistake. It was 1983, I was at Disney World with friends. They said we were going to Space Mountain. I didn't know what Space Mountain was, so I walked along. We got to the top of this building, which is when I discovered that it was a roller coaster, in complete darkness. I made it to the end without feeling like I had just died. From that point, I asked a lot of questions about our destinations.
Whenever someone around me sneezes or coughs I call out COVID! the way you say KOBE! when shooting a basketball. I also do the motion of shooting a basketball just to sell it hard.
We went there on field trips in the 90’s. There was like two roller coasters. I went back recently with my nieces and there are so many. We must have chose the worst food place lol
I live 40 miles from Dollywood. Roller-coasters are a rush, still enjoy them at 67. This is near the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Lots of good hiking 🚶♂️ to walk off all that food. Hiked 11 miles today, my third hike of the week.
Yeah, you can visit parks where bald eagles do exist. The park MUST be up to federal standards as it is the US' official bird. I couldn't believe how big they were until I got to one of those parks. I was 7 years old at the time. Yet, kinda felt intimidated. To be fair, any animal that's the same size as you is going to be intimidating.
Also, you told us that you're not well, at the time of recording. There is no need to tell us "sorry" for being sick. Everybody gets sick, whether we like it or not. Just focus on getting better, Luka! There is no need to rush on coming back.
My aunt got the recipe for the cinnamon bread and made it for my birthday this past Summer instead of cake (Not a fan of cake)....my roommates and I INHALED the entire 2 loaves of bread in 2 days!, I even made a breakfast sandwich with one and I was tearing up because it was sooooo good!
I live a few hours from here. I've been twice. It's a fun place! The Smokie Mountain National Park is just down the road and very pretty scenery. If you like theme/amusement parks, it's worth a visit.
This is the same offer I sent to L3WG Reacts so if you make it to the East Coast, I can put together a crew to take you to Kings Dominion 2.5 hours. Carowinds 2.5 hours 3.5 hours to Busch Gardens or 4.5 to Dollywood which I prefer. We can put together a meet and greet park day and we will let you hold the purses for the ladies while everyone rides :). Plus Washington DC is 4 hours/Charlotte motor speedway is just 2 hours that has a massive bass pro shop and we can take you for a couple of race shop tours and a tour of the speedway. Not to mention the Appalachian trail and blue ridge parkway that is just over an hour away. If you want to have some real fun and make good content, we can do a day of shooting almost any firearm you can imagine and do a little four wheeler trail riding. The selection is limitless with you getting what most channels do not and that is actual American towns and people and not the big city places every channel shows again and again. I hope this is not all Gibberish but I am falling asleep as I type. You could both come at the same time that way you both have a travel buddy
In my opinion it is like Disney world/land, in that it’s a theme park (rides, food, shows etc.). Obviously the themes of theme parks are different. It just comes down to regional areas. I grew up in Cincinnati Ohio, so I went to Kings Island as a kid.
Milk products are graded on a scale of A to F. Basically grade A has passed through every inspection and has nothing in it except the milk. grade F is milk that’s badly tainted with impurities and has to be used only in industrial applications and animal feed. Grade B has some impurities that can be filtered out but is used for flavored milk like strawberry and chocolate.
5:51 that is a banjo a classic instrument that sadly talent to play it is fading. The main singer I think of when it comes to banjos is Keith Urban. There's a song by Rascal Flatts called Banjo which is real fun to listen to. Dolly is an absolute legend and a Queen of Country. She's like Madonna, every decade that Dolly has been in she has made an impact to each of those born in those decades. Oh and Dolly is the one who wrote and sang I Will Always Love You wayyyy before Whitney did it.
I could have sworn my parents took me to a Dollywood in Colorado once in the late 70s. And though my memories are fuzzy, I think I enjoyed it. Or maybe it was called Silver Dollar City then?
Dolly Parton established this place. It isn't a park that someone else developed and thought a Dolly Parron theme would be nice. She established it. And please see others' comments about her philanthropic endeavors, especially the books she provides for free to young children. In honor of her father
I have never been to Dollywood or have visited the State of Tennessee. I hope someday I will be able to. I live in Ohio and have been to the 2 major amusement parks here, which are Cedar Point and Kings Island. I hope you get well soon ❤️🩹. I ended up getting a cold over a month ago and still have a lingering cough.

The UK has a few places like Dollywood. Alton towers, black pool pleasure beach, flamingo land, the former tato land which became emerald land. There’s an arcade in London that has a small coaster. I know universal studios is starting to ground break a new theme park in England likely next year. The London resort project that went nowhere. None in Norwich though. Although you could visit the knights wrestling academy which is an independent wrestling promotion run by Ricky knight and Sweet Saraya, their kids of course are Saraya formerly Paige of WWE, Zac Zodiac, and Roy Knight aka Zebra kid. Honestly Vince gave the kids a shot with a jobber match and tryouts. Saraya made the cut because she was different. Zac was told to put on muscle. Roy was disqualified at the start. Triple H is actually considering to bring the family in when their AEW contracts expire. Trips isn’t like Vince as he likes wrestlers of different types to put on a show.
British Theme Parks vs. American Theme Parks, . . . American Theme Parks have learned that the rides bring in the youth, the food brings back the adults. The older lady that chatted with Jolly was NOT there (again) for the rides. 😉
Cedar Point is getting ridiculous with the coasters though, I think the last one I had the nerve to ride was Raptor and I loved it, but I’m afraid of heights and hills 😂
that roller coaster is not RUSTY, it gets daily inspections. big parks like Dollywood take safely seriously, and do NOT want people getting injured, so they are regimental about the inspections in their property,.
Roller coasters to look aged actually paint fake rust which is just textured acrylic paint on to beams. Real rust doesn’t look like that. It’s a trick real rust has paint chips and it’s a different look.
No, some allergies are extremely dangerous. I have a relative allergic to peanuts. He came home from school feeling weird. His Mom used the epi-pen then rushed him to the emergency room. The doctor said he would have died if his Mom hadn’t acted !

@@cherylflam3250 Not sure what you point is. TN is not even one of teh largest state yet this dive is nearly the entre N - S length of eh UK. You posting just to be a shit stirrer?
@@harryballsak1123 Seriously?
Hoping you continue to feel better and that pesky cough moves along.
Thank you for reminding me, I think my parents took me to one in Colorado a long time ago but I had forgotten what it was called.
The instrument that Ollie was dancing to is called the banjo
Disneyland is in California and the first Disney park. Disney World is in Florida and the largest park. I'm not one for riding roller coasters either but if I'm riding, I'm in the front row. I've ridden rides in the middle and towards the back and they are rougher rides than being in the front two rows.
Dollywood is great and the mountains are beautiful.
I live 2 hours from Dollywood. The theme park in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee attracts around 3 million guests every year. In 2024, Dollywood was named the No. 1 theme park in the country by the National Amusement Park Historical Association and Tripadvisor.
Hope you feel better soon.
Helpful hint for any food on a stick. You Can push it up so you can keep biting off of the top.
Kettle corn tastes very different from regular popcorn. It's sweet.
I love Dolly her theme park is definitely on my bucket list.
I’ve been visiting Dollywood since I was probably 2 years old! It’s definitely worth going!! I’m going there next week actually.
I absolutely LOVE the gigantic swing ride (labeled as some plane ride) I rode it 7 times in a row... You could literally take a nap on it... Felt like a baby in a swing again lol
Where I live they have a theme park called King's Island it's located in Ohio look it up online they have a website.
Somehow we lucked out here in Ohio with both King's Island _and_ Cedar Point. I haven't been to KI yet, as it's hard to get my friends to go there instead. (we're up by Toledo) It looks pretty frickin' sweet, though!
Wooden roller coasters are the best!! The park was created by Dolly. It’s near where she grew up.
Dollywood is one of the best theme parks in the USA and also has a great waterpark and Resort
Hope you get a chance to visit some day 😊
Dollywood is definitely awesome!
I found the bakeries in Scotland second to none.
My favorite part of Dollywood is the live music shows.
Thurston seems like he is sick all the time. His eyes always look red and watery. He needs to get outside more often in the fresh air and sunshine.
We went there on field trips in the 90’s. There was like two roller coasters. I went back recently with my nieces and there are so many. We must have chose the worst food place lol
I love your commentary
They had to be high, there’s no way they ate that much food 😂
They don’t have a park for Dolly Parton, she owns the park.
Came back from North Carolina and took the route through Dollywood. Worst traffic jam I've ever been in.
I love cinnamon too, and it's so good for you.
In my opinion it is like Disney world/land, in that it’s a theme park (rides, food, shows etc.). Obviously the themes of theme parks are different. It just comes down to regional areas. I grew up in Cincinnati Ohio, so I went to Kings Island as a kid.
Now I'm going to have to travel across the mountain and get to DollyWood
Turkeys are big birds. And yes, smoked turkey looks and tastes a little bit like ham. Ham lite.
Wooden rollercoasters have a big following in the U.S
Ollie's potato allergy is an upset stomach after eating potatoes
Kettle corn is not like caramelized corn. It’s only lightly sweetened. Since it has less sugar, it is not brown like caramelized corn
Get well!
Wooden rollercoasters are the best 😂
I'm not big on popcorn but Kettle corn on the other hand....man I can knock a bag out lol
She is owner/was kinda her idea cuz invested in Pigeon Forge! Gatlinburg close by, one of my FAV 4 day vacations
In several recent surveys , Dollywood has been rated as The Best theme park in the country, beating out Disney and Universal parks.
That is a troubadour playing the banjo.
0:56 Yep.... My thoughts exactly.
I could have sworn my parents took me to a Dollywood in Colorado once in the late 70s. And though my memories are fuzzy, I think I enjoyed it. Or maybe it was called Silver Dollar City then?
I don't like roller coasters either. I almost came out of one when I was in grade school and they've terrified me ever since.
1,000.000 times better than any Disney park.
Cedar Point rules, and I have to imagine King's Island does too. One of these years I'll make it down there!
@@rafetizer I’ve only been to Kings Island 4 or 5 times my whole life. Growing up, we would always go to Cedar Point. But it’s been 8 years since I’ve been to Cedar Point.
@@katinacarson-hunwi7297 I finally just went again a few months back after a similar 8ish year hiatus. Haven't been on SV yet, but the new wild mouse was fun as hell
@@rafetizer hopefully I can go next summer.
It's a crime that Dolly isn't an Official National Treasure!
Trips isn’t like Vince as he likes wrestlers of different types to put on a show.
in your life you need to try at least one roller coaster. Remember you were nervous about flying.
British Theme Parks vs. American Theme Parks, . . .
American Theme Parks have learned that the rides bring in the youth, the food brings back the adults.
The older lady that chatted with Jolly was NOT there (again) for the rides. 😉
Dollywood is more the ultimate country music, kindness American Experience. Cedar Point is more the Ultimate American Amusement Park Experience.
It’s a trick real rust has paint chips and it’s a different look.
kettle corn tastes WAY different than regular popcorn
I'm allergic to beef, dairy and citrus. I eat them regularly. They just kill my stomach, but I love all of it, so I'll suffer
No, some allergies are extremely dangerous. I have a relative allergic to peanuts. He came home from school feeling weird. His Mom used the epi-pen then rushed him to the emergency room. The doctor said he would have died if his Mom hadn’t acted !
